Minimal/Tech House
Audiotheque - "Anakronik" (8:02)
Leo-pol - "Introduction" (7:33)

Anrilov & Bvoice - "Budet" (8:32)
Adjusment Bureau - "Times Goes By" (7:55)
Clovis - "Rose Bleue" (11:20)
Review: Moscow label BodyParts Records has become a byword for quality minimal fare since its emergence a few years back and this latest offering is their most comprehensive yet. V3 pairs up six producers across two slabs of vinyl and will probably become one of those double packs that doesn't leave your box. The future tribalism of Nu Zau's "Noise" stands out here, as does the bristling abstract grooves of Anrilov & Bvoice collaboration "Budet". The chiming beauty and simple beats of "Rose Bleue" by Clovis might just be our favourite contribution here however.

Jimmy "Bo" Horne - "Hey There Jim" (2:34)
Lynn Williams - "How Can You Call Love Fascination" (2:26)
Review: Jimmy Bo Horne brings his raw and expressive vocals to this new release on Japanese label Ultra Vybe. The oft-sampled America singer, writer and producer has been turning out such sounds since the mid 70s but remains on top of his game here. The big horns bring energy, the rolling rhythm section gets you up on your feet and the whole thing screams floor filler. On the flip is Lynn Williams with 'How Can You Call Love Fascination,' a much more slow and sensual soul tune with acrobatic vocals and nice piano fills next to a big horn section.

Faith (3:49)
Faith (dub) (3:49)
Review: On his previous releases as Booker Gee, Guillaume Metenier has employed his immaculate organ-playing skills over a range of killer funk and soul grooves. Here he flips the script, delivering atmospheric, fluid Hammond solos over some dub-wise reggae grooves played and produced by Spanish multi-instrumentalist Lone Ark (real name Roberto Sanchez). Both Metenier and Sanchez are in fine form on opener 'Auxmites', a bass-heavy head-nodder that sounds like Lee 'Scratch' Perry producing Jimmy Smith. 'Faith' is a little sunnier and warmer, with Metenier's solos working in perfect unison with Sanchez's glistening guitars, jangling pianos and skanking rhythm. Both cuts come accompanied by pleasingly spaced-out Dub revisions courtesy of Sanchez. Top stuff!

Review: Archeo Recordings bring us some more Balearic Italian treasure here with some gold initially recorded in Bologna almost two decades ago. It's a collaboration between friends Bottin and Lucio Dalla that has never before been on vinyl. 'Lunedi Cinema' was an ident that played before Monday night movies on of one of the main Italian TV channels for many years. This electronic version includes the Martedi Mix from 2008, a Minibar Bonus Track and also a mix by pioneering Italian dream house dons Leo Mas & Fabrice with a Bottin dub sealing the deal. It's a superb package of real Italo music history.

Cizana - "She Sold Her Soul" (3:52)
La Nueva Generacion - "Uhru Sasa" (3:26)
Review: It might be getting cold and dark and wet here in the UK but music will always be able to transport us to warmer, sunnier, happier climes. And so it is with this new 7", which includes a booklet, from Discodelic. It's a two tracker from Cizana and La Nueva Generation that is flame hot and bristling with energy - Cizana's 'She Sold Her Soul' kicks off with its joyous flutes, hand drums and percussive Latin grooves then La Nueva Generacion slow things down and up the brass with their carnivalesque Afro-funk workout 'Uhru Sasa'.

Review: According to La Chinerie themselves. after repping their dear home of France on the first volume, they are 'this time enlightening Italy's house scene through an eclectic V/A gathering eight tracks from eight talented macaronis.' Southern Italy represents in the form of Salerno's Giovanni Damico with the funky and dusty soul heaven of "No Al Maltrattamento Dei Samples" while Lecce's finest Marcello Napoletano delivers the goods as always on the gritty house shenanigans of "Insignami". Elsewhere, there's Restoration's Lucretio (via Berlin of course) delivering some muscular, hardware oriented grooves on "I Piu Piccoli" while the north of The Beautiful Country represents too, rest assured, in the from of Bologna's Bassa Clan with the bouncy and swinging NYC circa '94 vibe of "Notte Brava".

Review: The Belgian label Higher Hopes is run by DC Salas who now returns to it with a new EP with the collaborative Los NiNos Del Parque project alongside Anthony Barbarich aka Mirror Minds. They say it is a release that has been 15 years in the making and has roots in their shared love of 2000s electroclash, plus new wave and new beat. They set out to make something inspired by that and have done so over the last four years with a mix of rugged and mechanical rhythms and angular synth lines. A fine remix by the assured Badaboum and Rinse France resident Belaria rounds out the package.

Review: This new reissue from Salsoul takes us back to the first volume of what became a vital Re-edits series from disco aficionado Dimitri From Paris. The ever-green disco don really pulled it out of the bag with these. Sure, the originals are all wellborn classics, but in his hands and with an extra sprinkling of dazzling disco dust, they become new and vital once more. The standout will always be Loleatta Holloway's 'Love Sensation' but deeper heads might before the funky bass of Inner Life's 'Moment of My Life.' Review: The on-point Burning Sounds is a treasure trove for proper dub and lovers rock delights from years gone by. They have been digging in the vaults again and come up with a new 12" which they have pressed on nice heavyweight wax, and the sounds more than deserve that. Hortense Ellis and General Roy's 'Give Thanks' is a crucial rhythm with lazy chords and guitars, DIY percussive sounds and deft little keys with a yearning vocal up top. Lawes Rockers is responsible for the flipside version and as you may expect it's dubbed out and reverb-heavy.

Originally recorded in 2004, 'Loving You Is All I Wanna Do' appeared on the Luv's Fire CD Maxi Single and later on a full album in 2006 through Coastal Records but now debut on vinyl thanks to Soul Direction. On the flip side, Lewzarius' 'Step Up" shines as a rich collaboration between Campbell and Haran Griffin, who is best known for 'Movin' Much Too Fast.' Atlanta-born Lewzarius recorded this track during his time at Coastal Records in the late 90s.

Review: Maledetta Discoteca closes out its year with this special blue vinyl featuring a mix of brilliant Italo disco artists. They all hail from Italy and Argentina and are editing originals that span disco, electro, proto-house and more. Hararis' 'Si No Pagan' is the first under the scalpel and is a funky cut with raw drums. Lance's 'Yo Quiero A Lucy' is a more slowed down and seductive sound with 80s synths, Marta Paradise's 'Calling' (edit) is a direct and sugar synth laced house stomper and Alan Strani's 'Tension Salsable' brings things to a closer with a nice stomping disco grove with mysterious synths and lush percussion.

This is number five in their Free Soul series and it pairs off some more legends. Review: The second chapter of Sentry's compilation series furthers the notoriety of its lauded artist congregation, welcoming plenty of fresh faces to the revered artist roster. A four-track vinyl sampler, Syndicate Part 2 takes (as the label best said themselves) 'bass music enthusiasts for an extensive and stylistically varied ride'. KALI & Senncoria take dubstep into world music realms on 'Dragon Shape', LSN bring UK bass music forward on the urban grit of 'Shotta Kush', Substance teams up with label head honcho Youngsta on the blunted late night grime experiment 'Nug', and on what was probably our favourite track on here, Cimm presents a unique take on dub techno with the cavernous and glacial 'Glider'.

Review: Having coaxed a new Kerrier District album out of Luke Vibert last year, Bristol's ever busy Hypercolour return to the project with a 12" sporting some truly high profile remixers. Ricardo Villalobos seems in the midst of a new wave of popularity right now, so it's a canny move for Hypercolour to enlist the Chilean for a trademark extended remix of "Sexspurt" alongside trusted companion and long-term collaborator Max Loderbauer. 12 minutes long, there is an equal emphasis on groove, micro detail and psychedelic expression demonstrated by the pair. Complementing this, the B side sports remixes from KiNK and Shed's Head High with the latter's take on "Come On Kerrier" quite sublime fun. What a way to toast your 50th release!

Review: Sometimes it's just too difficult to contain our excitement; we're quaking in our boots at news of Khruangbin's next release, with the Texan three-piece this time lending their alt-indie-funk mastery to vocal frontage by Leon Bridges. The humorously titled lead single 'B-side' is emblematic of their stated aim here - to redefine "how people perceive Texas music i that beautiful marriage of country and r'n'b i and really paying homage to that." The sonic result? Bubbling bass and wahhy riffs, over a ghostly and misty relaxers' beat. Its hook digs into our thighs deeper than a Sheriff's steel spurs, and fittingly, it's music video is themed after a 19th Century western town.

Review: Grand Rapids, Michigan post-hardcore collective La Dispute have become legends within the scene due to their popularising of the resurgent 90s screamo sound along with peers in Touche Amore and Pianos Become The Teeth. Known for their subtle fusion of post-rock malaise and crescendo building with the frenetic chaos of emotive hardcore, all unified under the hypnotic spoken-word/caustic shrieks of frontman and highly poetic lyricist Jordan Dreyer, 2006 saw the release of their much-lauded debut EP 'Vancouver', two years prior to their first album Somewhere At The Bottom Of The River Between Vega & Altair. Clocking in at over a half-hour whilst comprising of eight tracks, many fans often consider the work more of a mini-LP and with that, this 12" cloudy blue reissue will stand spine-to-spine with any of their subsequent full-lengths, both figuratively and literally.

Review: The Cuban boleros of the 1950s and Nuyorican street soul of the 1960s always embodied a timeless Caribbean romanticism in the midst of New York City's urban landscape. La Triunfadora's debut album captures this sense of revival with experimental, psychedelic arrangements that revitalise classic tunes with fresh interpretations. Their debut 7-inch on Names You Can Trust honours Cuban bolero maestro Cesar Portillo De La Luz with lush orchestration and vocals by Candace Camacho and Benjamin R. Julia. The B-side reimagines Ralfi Pagan's 1969 Latin soul gem 'Hijo De Mama' by blending analogue warmth with a modern twist.

Review: Rindert Lammers' debut LP is a kaleidoscopic suite in five movements; pelican wingspans of twinkly, retentive but then also generous jazztronica, centring on two distinct themes: Japanese cinema and YouTube confessions. Japanese culture is seen through a grateful lens, as theatrical titans such as Kirin Kiki are homaged; the B1 especially is inspired by a poignant moment in the actor's portrayal of Hatsue Shibata in the 2018 film Shoplifters. Seemingly firstly inconsequential digital traces are lent an upscale gravitas, meanwhile, as a voice clip from a YouTube comment on an algorithmically boosted Hiroshi Yoshimura video evolves into the ride-embellished upswell 'Thank You Hiroshi Yoshimura'. Mastering the art of appreciation from afar, Lammers brings a mood of gobsmacked reverence for Japanese enviro jazz and its offshoots, suspending us over an endless realm of forms circa 1989.

Review: Glasgow's Lanark Artefax hasn't dropped a new record in around four years but now breaks that hiatus with a fresh EP on AD 93. These five cuts are all precision moulded for maximum impact, and they all very much sound like they have come back from the future. 'Surface Light' rides on lurching beats and pristine lasers cut them up as reflective metal surfaces twist and turn. 'Metallur' is double time, mind-melting and overdriven synth madness with a jittery rhythm propping up the melodic madness. 'Meszthread' is serrated electro with edges so sharp they might cut you and 'Tris' then take a moment to wallow in some dramatic synthscapes. 'At The Bay' soundtracks the end of the world with a real sense of doom and finality.

The original version of "You're The Best" is up there with anything else of the era's finest moments such as by Chic or Sister Sledge or even Gwen Guthrie and there's a handy extended mix too for the heads. Review: Discos Elgozo's second single featuring Las Raras Del Folclor, a queer feminist musical project from the Colombian Caribbean, draws on the decolonising power of cumbia and drums to heal and challenge patriarchal structures. Originating from the LBT Raras no tan Raras Corporation which was founded in 2019 for LGBT Pride Day in Barranquilla, Colombia, Las Raras Del Folclor blends feminist, queer, and Caribbean influences. As such their music is a bold political statement with lyrics celebrating sexual and gender diversity. The first track, 'La Denuncia,' channels ancestral strength against patriarchy, while the second, 'La Pajarera,' highlights community support and care.

They put together on this red hot double A-side 45 with fully remastered sound. The Latin Souls was made up of four Puerto Rican musicians who served up a-side 'Tiger Boo-ga-loo' in 1968. Review: The second offering from Ascension on Wax sees label co-founder Lavan dropping four tracks of gently uplifting house that will seduce and tempt you on the dancefloor rather than batter you into submission. 'For The Love' featuring Manpaintinghouse is hazy and lightly jazzy, a skippy beat nailing it down, before the chunkier four to the floor of 'Folk Song' paves the way for more luxurious instrumentation and some sassy spoken word. Flip it over for the teasing, swirling 'Daamn' and a Black Eyes remix of 'For The Love', which slows things down a notch and takes sonic scissors to the vocal narrative. All four are great and, despite being on the mellower side, or tailor made for DJ use. Top notch all round.

Review: Sophisticado label head Vick Lavender is back with more of his effortlessly cool and timeless deep house vibrations. He kicks off this latest tasteful missive with the title track 'Afro Go' which has a call & response style, Afro-jazz influenced groover that is perfect for both head and heel. 'Ambrosia' flips the script with a bass lead groove that is a perfect foundation for the smooth undulating synths then on the flip is a previously release collaboration with Chicago vocal legend Robert Owens himself. The lush 'Tonight' his smoky tones and keys from the late D. Millz then 'Acid Outpost' shuts down with a blend of late night jazz chords and potent house depths.

Family (Birdland Love Theme) (4:52)
All I Do (4:34)
Review: This excellent 7" single dips into the archives of flautist Hubert Laws, offering up two rarities that date from 1981. On side A you'll find a superb live version of Laws' then recent single 'Family', which first featured on the Japanese-only LP Aurex Jazz Festival: Super Fusion Jam. A languid jazz-funk number featuring Laws' younger sister Eloise on vocals and plenty of fluid solos from the man himself, it's argualy a better version than the one originally featured on the 1980 album of the same name. Over on the flip you'll find a previously unissued recording of Hu Eloise and the rest of their top-notch fusion band giving their interpretation of Stevie Wonder's 'All I Do'. It's as fresh, breezy and emotion rich as you'd expect, with Eloise Laws' delivering a brilliant lead vocal.

Review: Lawson Jr'Music is based in Montreal in Canada and is a drummer, singer and music composer who has played all over the world since a young age. He brings a distinctive Afro vibe to his take on hip hop as demonstrated by this masterful new cut on BSide/Lawson Entertainment. 'Let It Go' is defined by its screwy bass down low and the echoing hits up top. Aside from that I'd an empty but atmospheric cut with yearning vocals and melancholic chords. The flispide instrumental allows the slick production to shine.

Review: Francesco Fisotti is the leader of the new Italian disco-funk band Le Dune and this makes their debut release. 'Sugar' features a fusion of electronic drums, synths and groovy bass with a retro feel but fresh modern production flair next to vibrant guitars. When you pair all that with catchy, pop-driven vocals you have a timeless disco vibe that will unique all manner of dancers. Alongside the original version, the Extended Mix emphasises the groove, the Instrumental Version' leans into a percussive, tribal sound while the 'La Notte Mix' co-produced by Issam Dahmani delivers a late 80s proto-house feel.

Review: Le Matos' all new Ninja Eliminator Trilogy captures the band's early years across four fantastic cuts. Fans will recognise 'Rage Of Honor' which has already been put out as part of the 5 Years compilation while the other tracks here have never before been released. Musically this is high sheen, retro-future synth work of the highest order. The keys are sugar sweet and crystalline, the rhythms sleek and expansive and the moods nicely cosmic. It makes for a perfectly escapist, high energy trip to another dimension.

Review: Le Motel checks into Le Hotel with a killer quintet ranging in flavour, form and lyrical fire. Opener 'Suenos' sets the tone with its bashy kicks and brilliantly nagging vocal stab. It's backed by a rainbow of ideas. Highlights include 'Love Talk Bad' (with Logan), a track that shows how the Belgian artist does grime, 'Libet's Delay' (with Cabasa) is a drifty, dreamy new jungle stepper while 'Talking To The Drums' is a near-spiritual affair based purely out of percussion and pipes. A truly euphoric affair. Time to check-in.

Review: dBridge's mighty Exit Records get a superb mini-album out of Leftlow here. It's a collection of tunes that provoke great thought as the London pair offer up their most comprehensive oeuvre yet. These are headphone-ready sounds with meaty low ends and superb sound designs that are fluid, intricate, and underpinned by the sort of bass that will also work so well on a meaty sound system. Atmospheric and inventive throughout, there is an industrial tinge to 'Pistons' while dreamier scapes define 'Thoughtful' and lovely drum patterns get you on your toes during 'Green Eyes'. Irresistible stuff to any bass heads.

Review: Roberto Zanetti was also known as Savage and was a producer who was beloved among Italo disco enthusiasts. His work in the 80s helped to define the genre and this is one of the tracks he turned out that had a particular resonance. The outstanding production from 1987 is as likely to captivate dancefloors across Europe now as it was back then. It became a secret weapon for many DJs the first time around and here makes a special return with a reissue that features a bonus remix by Alex "A" and Patrick Delay, which was originally released in 1988 in Hong Kong.

Adapting styles as he pleases while never losing his sight of his vision, Lessig serves up five new missives on his sophomore effort - the HALO EP for Hamburg's Fauxpas Music. It features the evocative title track which is the perfect soundtrack for a Berlin sunrise with its array of dreamy melodies and cinematic breaks, as well as the straight forward deep house of 'The Arp Of Love' and the glassy-eyed and bittersweet UK rave influences that creep into 'Arthur'.

Review: Spanish label Blanco Y Negro has got some irresistibly uplifting trance on its hands here from Italian Levy 9 in collaboration with Patty Dart. We can't quite work out whether this is a new tune from a mid-90s outfit or a reissue of their work from back then, but either way it is going to get your hands in the air and tears in your eyes such is the emotional overload of the synths in both tunes. The tunes come as remixes by Street 9 remix, a D-Floorfiller mix and an extended mix with big chords and catchy Euro-dance vocals.

Review: Even catching a glimpse of the artwork on this one is enough to immediately sooth the soul and transport you to some gorgeously hot holiday location by the pool. The music matches the vibe, too, with lush downtempo funk and breezy Balearic grooves packed with proper musicality. Opener 'Pigeon Pit' has tender vocals over the funky beats, 'Lazy Breeze' has the same, this time with lazy piano chords and jazzy drums and 'Relax Your Mind' (feat Jim Hart) then rather picks up the pace and gets the party going in grown up fashion. 'Sweet Life' closes down with some lush and squelchy funk.

Review: Those of a certain age might well remember this early trance and breakbeat anthem from Life Form. It landed in 1993 and now on the occasion of its 30th birthday, it has been fully remastered for this reissue on Sound Metaphors. Right now this sort of sound is full back en vogue with all sorts of young producers aping those early glory days but few will match the quality of 'Come Down' with its slick breakbeat loops and alluring female vocals. There are two mixes, a Juan Ramos remix that is more downtempo and the captivating 'Summer's Child' is also included.

Review: An appropriate name for things to say the least, nine tracks of ambient drone business are offered on this collection, and they all somehow manage to straddle both eeriness and ethereality. There has scarcely been more proof of how fine the line is between unsettling and settling noises. B1's arrangement is certainly not going to make anyone feel calmer, albeit there's nothing there that should cause anxiety. Strange, otherworldly vocal loops and whirring mechanics aren't exactly made for relaxation, though. C1, on the other hand, feels more like we're exploring the sonic landscape of another planet, while A1 is a creeping and slightly creepy arrangement that feels almost ghostly. Definitely one that more explorative and adventurous ears will be quick to find an affinity to, by the time D4 closes out with its suggestions of beat and rhythm coming from a minimal reverberation it feels like you've been somewhere. Working out where is another question.

Review: A recreational offshoot of the band Pleasure, Portland's Lights Out were led by their trumpeter Tonmy Collins as a way of staying musically exercised, pushing the envelope and getting a few local bookings on the side when Pleasure weren't on the road. Their sound started out as jazz fusion but they soon developed into a monstrously funky synth/-led funk rollercoaster. as vocalist Andy Stokes and guitarist Greg "Gee Mack" Dalton fronted the band.
The four tracks here were recorded as a demo for Solar Records in 1982 at Wave Sound Studios - a facility more used to housing punk acts such as The Wipers and The Rats - but the label 'fumbled' it and the band fellow apart soon after. Some 40 years on, the likes of 'Surrender Your Love' and 'Tonight' still sound fresh as the proverbial daisy, and likely to lure feet onto the dancefloor.

Review: Definitely one for the collectors, Lime was Canadian duo (then husband and wife) Denis and Denyse LePage, and 'Angel Eyes' was originally the second single from their third studio album, 1983's Lime III. Almost 40 years later, the track has returned as a short form release, offering the original synth pop anthem, and a clubbier dub mix.

For many, though, not least Unidisc Canada, the label carrying this re-release, the major selling point is a remix - and something of a remodelling - courtesy of Turbo Recordings boss and dance music icon Tiga. Forsaking the rather smiley and bouncy original work, in favour of something grittier and altogether more dystopian, it's a masterclass of rough, gnarly broken electro, reworking and chopping vocals into disorientating loops, before finally introducing a kind of warehouse synth pop sound.
