Hotmood & Gledd - "I've Got Jazz" (5:20)
C Da Afro - "Ultrafunk" (6:02)
Djeko & K'you - "Money Don't Spend Me" (5:33)
Review: Super Spicy Records continues its run with great releases, with this second instalment of the Super Spicy Recipe proving a great compilation with big names of the disco scene rubbing shoulders with some super talented newcomers. On A1, we have Boogietraxx and Monsieur Van Pratt teaming up for the fantastic 'Sigueme', that brings a Latin flavour to the table, followed on A2 by Mexican disco master Hotmood and Italian star Gledd combining their superpowers to bring the maximum jazz spice to the recipe via 'I've Got Jazz'. On the flip, Greek edit master C. Da Afro salts this dish with some 'Ultrafunk', while last but not least, we have French duo Djeko & K'You applying some extra spice with 'Money Don't Spend Me'.

Demuir - "Let's Get In It" (7:16)
Black Loops - "French Affair" (6:24)
Hotmood - "Voyage To The Onda" (6:41)
COEO - "Azzurro" (7:37)
Review: The team behind upstart imprint De La Groove has done a fine job on this compilation style extravaganza, which features tracks from an impressive selection of hotly tipped producers. Highlights include the bouncy, shirts-off loop-disco of Cody Currie's "ACE, At The Point of Collapse", the super-groovy, jazz-flecked deep house warmth of Demuir's "Let's Get In It", the effervescent sweetness of Black Loops' summery roller "French Affair", and the fluttering flute solos of Hotmood's goodtime jazz-funk revision "Voyage To The Onda". The purest expression of jazzy, smoky deep house is provided by COEO, whose clarinet-sporting "Azzurro" is probably our pick of a very strong bunch.

Ed Wizard & Disco Double Dee - "Shades Of Blue" (Thatmanmonkz remix) (5:50)
Ed Wizard & Disco Double Dee - "Cantina" (6:21)
Hotmood - "Chico Shake" (6:08)
Hotmood - "El-Artista" (7:04)
Review: Editorial's 28th vinyl outing is a split affair, with label mainstays Ed Wizard & Disco Double Dee handling the A side and Hotmood holding court on the B. Interestingly, the standout of Ed Wizard & Disco Double Dee's side is a wonderfully groovy, synth-sporting deep house re-make of "Shades of Blue" by Sheffield-based Leicester Lad Scott Moncrieff AKA Thatmanmonkz, though the head-nodding, toe-tapping chunk of jazz-funk/instrumental soul that follows it, "Cantina", is also rather good. As for Hotmood, they provide some instant party-starting vibes via the low-slung disco-funk-meets-house loop jam "Chico Shake", before exploring breezier dancefloor pastures via the flute-sporting goodness of "El Arista". In a word: solid.

Ethyene - "Let Love" (5:42)
Carlo - "The Swindler" (6:32)
Hotmood - "Magical Flight" (5:57)
Rees - "The Way You Move" (6:04)
Review: We may not be able to gather to dance outdoors under a blazing sun or a blanket of stars, but there's no harm in a little musical daydreaming. That's what the latest multi-artist Ravenelli Disco Club release is all about: summery escapism that comes with a big dollop of rush-inducing disco release. Ethyene sets the tone with the colourful boogie-house fusion of "Let Love" - all twinkling synth motifs, echoing percussion hits, thickset grooves and hazy vocal samples - before Carlo raises the temperature via some jazzy deep house heaviness in the vein of Derrick Carter's "boompty" era. Over on side B, Hotmood's "Magical Flight" is a surging, string-drenched disco-house roller, while Rees' "The Way You Mood" is a tooled-up take on what sounds like a classic Philadelphia International cut.

Hotmood - "La La La" (6:00)
C Da Afro & JB Boogie - "Latin Vibez" (6:11)
Monsieur Van Pratt - "With You" (5:59)
Review: Set your phasers to disco, the Spincat label is back with more of that fired up, exquisitely edited goodness that makes you want to get down. First up on this various artists 12" is The Funk District, who keeps things heady and swooning on the Philly string busting 'Like A Bird On A Cage'. Hotmood, fresh from bringing the good stuff to Disco Fruit, is feeling feisty on the decidedly jacked up 'La La La'. It's an uptempo stomper with a relentless charge and a loopy flavour that could sit in a techno set as easily as a disco one. C Da Afro and JB Boogie team up to kick the B side off with 'Latin Vibez', which works in some choice 80s electro funk flavours amongst the driving disco beat.

Hotmood - "Raw Dance" (6:08)
Review: Masterworks Music mastermind 80's Child unleashes the third volume of his Masterworks compilations. This is a two-part vinyl release with the first part featuring The Funk District hailing from Cancun, who kicks off the A side with "The Funky Joint". He gets a good ol' time shuffle going before handing it over to Parisian Oldchap for a proper low-slung boogie in the form of "To The Top". On the flip, Godfather of the western Australian dance scene Dr. Packer gets down with a wicked edit on the late night sexiness of "Your Big Chance" and fellow Mexican Hotmood goes out on a high note with smokin' hot vocal number "Raw Dance".

As yet untitled, each of the four cuts sparkle and shimmy with his signature warm flare. Disco Power (5:08)
Malandro (4:33)
To The Beat Y`all (5:00)
Review: Mexican DJ and producer Hotmood indeed brings the heat on his new EP for the Blur Records gang. It is a fine fusion of disco and house music with rich instrumentals, nice organic sound and plenty of smart samples. Opener 'Disco Power' is a funky and upbeat cut with a powerful bassline and big vocal stabs. Things get more deep and laidback with 'Malandro' which has big sax energy and sunny chords then 'To The Beat Y'all' rounds out the EP with real disco energy. The drums hit hard, big guitar riffs brighten up the mix and subtle filters and FX also pump things to the next level.

Playing A Groove For An Hour (6:43)
The Camel (6:57)
Review: Having made his name with a string of fine rework releases on the acclaimed Tugboat Edits imprint, Guillermo "Hotmood" Gonzalez makes his first appearance on Whiskey Disco. Disco De Los Muertos ("Disco of the dead", if our Spanish is up to scratch) is predictably full of cheeky dancefloor moments that should appeal to both house and disco DJs alike. Our pick of the bunch is probably the low-slung "Playing The Groove For An Hour", where fizzing synth stabs ride a ridiculously rubbery slap bass riff and rolling house groove. That said, the deeper and dreamier "The Camel" is rather good, while the horror-tinged Mexican funk-goes-house fare stretched across the A-side is both rock solid and highly playable.

Raw Data (6:48)
I Can Be You (6:47)
You Can't Play That (6:22)
Review: Guillermo Gonzalez aka Hotmood is a funk/disco producer from Mexico. Recently on fire with a string of releases for the labels Star Creature, Whiskey Disco and Tugboat Edits, Hotmood shows no sign of letting up with four more disco edits for the London based Editorial label. "Don't Care" is a certain sought after classic from 1979 which has previously been a favourite of Joey Negro. On the flip, there's one that will really appeal to those in the know on the saucy and electric boogie-down jam "I Can Be You" that sampled the same hook as a certain J.B. Boogie hit from a little while back. Finally he offers up a right lo-slung gem in the form of "You Can't Play That". This slo-mo jam is so funky and looped to perfection. A bunch of respectful edits for those that know their disco history and for serious DJ use only!

My Disco Collection (6:16)
Clean Cuts (5:39)
Review: Hotmood is up next on Disco Fruit with some brightly coloured tracks that sit just right in the bowl next to previous efforts from Funky Junkie, Gradient Logic and more. "Let's Ride" is low down and nasty where it counts, but also manages to be smoothly finished so as to keep the crowd happy. "Mr Funkyman" gets a little jazzier, looping up where it counts to keep the sweet, sweet groove rolling as long as needed. "My Disco Collection" is a more rugged affair rolling at a slower tempo, and the appropriately named "Clean Cuts" gets busy with a loop that could roll on all day without anyone tiring of it.

I Was Never Fan Of Sampling
Review: Last year was a massive one for Serbian label Disco Fruit, with a plethora of essential 12"s dropping amidst a productive digital schedule too. Mexican producer Hotmood was certainly part of the label's success, and he kicks things off in 2019 for them in fine style with this sizzling EP of good time vibes, leading in with the sultry, chugging funk of "Afro Vibrations". "Shiny Stockings" is a more insistent, looped up affair for peak time moments, while "Tropical" lives up to its name with an exotic lilt in its source material that will transport you to whichever sunkissed idyll your heart desires. The ironically titled "I Was Never Fan Of Sampling" rounds the record out with another blast of cannily sliced and diced disco funk goodness to satisfy every kind of dancer.

Review: Mexican DJ and producer Hotmood has slung out a huge amount of quality releases in the past few years via his own Hotmood Records as well as elsewhere, from Disco Fruit to Whiskey Pickle. Now Guillermo Gonzalez is bringing the funk to Ravanelli Disco Club, imparting some seriously classy club rollers that draw on classic sound sources but boil the ingredients down into punchy, effective contemporary dancefloor bombs. "Burning Desire" is a sprightly, key led affair, while "Maybe The Melody Sucks" gets busy with Philly strings and brass stabs. "So Deep" piles the looped up disco funk on heavy, and "Get Down" does some impressive filter riding - these disco house bombs can't fail to set the party on fire when they're slapped on the platter.

Review: Always adept at reading the crowd and armed with decades of experience behind the decks, well-travelled man and Discoweey label boss Hotmood makes his debut on UK-based Giant Cuts with four summery tracks on "The Rhythm EP". Combining slo-mo boogie, groove laden disco and quality house sounds, he kicks things off with the sleazy late night funk attack of "The Rhythm Is There", before going deeper on the bass-driven soul loops of "My Darling (Dina)", leading up to the thumpin' B1 cut - a remix by Doc Jam that's chock-a-block with dancefloor dynamics and closing out with a fusion of jazz-funk, disco-house and evocative tropical jazz samples on "Tropical Space". Fans of Tropical Disco, Ravanelli Disco Club and Samosa will especially love this.

Cosmic Groove (6:43)
Review: That whacky bunch the Whiskey Pickle gang are back at it again, firing up the choice disco edit engine for another freewheeling ride into the land of the sophisticated party. Hotmood is at the wheel, and his style is firm but laid back, just how you want your driver to be. "Junkie" is a consummate groover, not least when it drops down into a gorgeous bass lick. Loz Goddard does a fine job of chopping the track into a more housey thrust, but then it's back to a more vintage feeling on the B-side as "Dis.Co" channels the Salsoul spirit to great effect. "Cosmic Groove" is a punchier jam, but it's still brimming with the evergreen energy of classic disco.

Review: Hotmoods hits double fingers with another stellar selection of steamy disco sizzlers. This time served up on a heavyweight 12", "Esta Noche" leads the charge with Todd Terje style melodic magic chugging away to the skies. "Shabba" features joyous vocal harmonies and splashes of synths that take you to the beach, and "Looking Back" ups the funk with busy bass playing and a lead synth that rings out with infectious happiness. Last of all, "Wanna Be Lost" gets more romantic and up close and personal with female vocals layered over elastic drums. All in all, an essential slab of wax for any disco DJ.

Review: Get those party pumps greased up and don thine finest gladrags, it's time to hit the disco with the fruitiest bunch in town. By now you no doubt know about the level of quality you should be expecting from a Disco Fruit 12", and this second sampler doesn't disappoint. Label regulars are present and correct, with Hotmood kicking things off with the sultry, sizzling 'You Are A Star', while C Da Afro vamps things up with the kind of uptempo electro-disco that borders on hi-NRG. Mitiko slides into a slinky Balearic groove on 'Back To Dance', and Loshmi takes things in a more esoteric, jazz-inflected direction on standout cut 'Regah'.

Review: The See-Saw label calls up a hit list of disco edit dynamos to bring a little party rocking magic to their latest 12", leading in with the looped up funk of Hotmood. 'Seductive Look' is the perfect insistent groove to get lost in, which contrasts with the bold and feisty 'Time To Move' by C Da Afro. Keeping things mixed up on the B side, Ziggy Phunk brings something special in the pattering, bongo-laden roller 'Space Ranger'. Alexny rounds things off with the low slung thwack and transcendent sax of 'Umbele', a track humming with the energy of Afrobeat at its source.

The label's inexhaustible resources for peak party material continue in style with this sampler 12", which brings together four different artists with their own foolproof recipes for a damn good time. Hotmood takes no prisoners in laying down a delicious disco groove on "I Love To Boogie", while Evil Smarty loops up the funk to perfection on "The Groove To Make You Dance". Mitiko takes on a timeless classic with "What Have You Done For Me", focusing on the heavy new jack swing beat of the source material to create a new club banger. Review: Earlier in the year, Samosa Records launched the "Funk Purpose" series via a multi-artist collection of top-notch edits. Volume two will be released in several parts, with this rock solid EP the first to drop. Glaswegian scalpel fiend Al Kent kicks things off with "Where", a superb traditionalist rearrangement of a soaring, orchestrated disco-funk cut that has the potential to become a screaming, soul-fired anthem this summer. Raw Slavs opt for a loose and groovy, slightly housed-up vibe on their succulent disco re-edit, "Born In R", before the Tropical Disco Records crew takes on side B. Moodena and Sartorial's "Got That Feeling" is a bumpin' disco-house revision of a soulful disco groover, while Hotmood's "700 Copies" is a deep, bass-heavy jaunt through cowbell-laden jazz-funk/house fusion.

This one comes on translucent re wax and brings together a blend of seasoned and fresh talent including Hotmood, Shalvoy, Diana Swan, Musta, Adam Nova and Uptown Funk. Review: By now we should know what to expect from Tropical Records, namely beefed-up, house style re-edits of disco and boogie tracks that tend towards the hot, sticky and humid. Sartorial kicks things off this time round via the swirling, Latin style disco-bounce of "Warping" - all low-slung bass, new house beats, big orchestration and snaking sax solos - before Moodena straightens out and tools up a hybrid jazz-funk/disco jam that boasts some seriously exotic guitar solos and jammed-out electric piano parts. Simon Kennedy's contribution, "Back To Soul", is a bumpy and bouncy take on a fine disco soul classic, while Hotmood's "Everybody" is a sweaty, house style revision of a P-funk flavoured boogie number.

On the A side we have the new coming disco duet Those Guys From Athens with a somehow future classic 90's jam "Like An Eagle", plus the mexican king of disco Hotmood with his latin flavoured "Que Pasa Muchacha''. On the B side we have another mysterious new duet Panta & Rhei with their warm and love oriented "Gimme Your Love". Last but not least the usual Bonfido suspect Sirhan is behind the pick hour, african stomper, "Disco Calippo".

Review: While most Editorial EPs feature contributions from a range of high-flying re-editors, their latest collection of cuts boasts a particularly star-studded line-up. For example, it features a now rare outing from Jeremy Duffy under the familiar Duff Disco alias, a gently rolling disco-soul revision called "Burning Hot" that underpins a suitably glassy-eyed cut with his trademark soft-touch house drums. More up-tempo fare can be found on side B, where Hotmood's disco-funk rearrangement "I Was Born In Mexico" - think restless slap bass, eyes-shut guitar solos, bouncy drums and rising horns - is joined by the razor-sharp disco-funk sweatiness of Alex Zuiev's "I Feel Funky". Arguably best of all, though, is Ed Wizard and Disco Double Dee's woozy, sample-heavy disco roller "Spirit Power".
