Review: Shoegazers and experimental outfit Cloudland Canyon blend ambient, drone, krautrock, psychedelic, house music into their own unique tapestries. The band, led by Kip Uhlhorn, is now back with this new self-titled album which his another widescreen exploration of the cosmic sonic realm. The band is now more than 20 years into their career and for this one embraced the future by collaborating with AI. This allowed them to generate and create "compositions that sound like they are meant for an alternate realm where both beauty and suffering are both present, but not at odds with one another."

Review: Even if you're a big fan of shoegaze jangle indie fuzziness, with waves of beach rock, Club 8's latest might have passed by unnoticed when it landed in December 2024. That's no slight on you. Or them. The reality is, this duo - known to some as Karolina Komstedt and Johan Angergard - are about as restless as they come. Trying to summarise the sound of their back catalogue is impressively challenging, with preceding records touching on Afro-pop, electronica, synth rock and trip hop. A Year With Club 8 is both a departure from those previous chapters, and a firm recommitment to the chameleon-like aesthetic. What's so remarkable, though, is their seemingly unending ability to keep hitting the nail squarely on head with each sound they choose to play with next. For all intents and purposes, this might be the best intimate-yet-epic rock & roll album of last year.

Review: The Cocteau Twins' transition from 4AD to Fontana Records in the early 90s marked a significant shift, yet their 1993 release Four-Calendar Cafe remains a stunning addition to their discography. Despite the upheavals, including strained relationships, the band delivered a gem that subtly evolved their signature sound. Four-Calendar Cafe follows the acclaimed Heaven Or Las Vegas and presents a more accessible, melodic approach while maintaining the ethereal and beautiful characteristics we associate with the Cocteau Twins. Tracks like 'Know Who You Are At Every Age' and 'Evangeline feature Elizabeth Fraser's crystalline vocals, layered over Robin Guthrie's lush, reverb-drenched guitars. 'Bluebeard,' with its country-inflected melody, and 'Squeeze-Wax,' an uplifting lullaby, highlight Fraser's more discernible lyrics, adding an intimate layer to the album's dreamy soundscapes. The dynamic closer 'Pur,' solidify its place in the band's esteemed discography. Reissued on vinyl for 2024, Four-Calendar Cafe remains a great album to listen to, blending shimmering atmospheres with Fraser's amazing voice. This release reaffirms the Cocteau Twins' status as pioneers of dream pop, whose influence continues to resonate.

Review: When Cocteau Twins released Milk & Kisses in 1996, it wasn't presented as their last album. It was only two years later when they went to record a follow-up they decided to call it a day. Despite that, it was actually the smoothest album to record after the dust has settled from interpersonal relationship breakups, and the harmony between the band shines through in these beautifully strange, strangely beautiful slices of mid-90s indie pop. Paying tribute to Jeff Buckley on 'Rilkean Heart', it's a true document of the time and sounds like the era packaged up on an album, now remastered and reissued via Proper.

Review: Four Calendar Cafe is a latter-day LP from dream pop pioneers Cocteau Twins, now reissued by their home stretch 4AD (though it first appeared as a defection to Dutch label Fontana). Though it isn't an album of high priority in the average Cocteau canon, this very fact proves that the average Cocteau enjoyer can be differentiated from the patrician cream. That's all due to the fact that Four-Calendar Cafe oozes a maturity that only a seventh full-length album could muster, infamously swerving away from the ambient indeterminacy of their prior albums and veering into greater accessibility and popcraft, with the likes of 'Evangeline' and 'Bluebeard' garnering the band moderate success in the charts.

Review: Milk & Kisses proved to be the final studio album by the inimitable Scottish band Cocteau Twins, the band that made the 4AD label long before the likes of Dry Cleaning and Future Islands graced their roster. By the time in 1996 that they'd released this, however, album number eight, they'd moved on to major Fontana Records and were well into the period of their career where singer Elizabeth Fraser had switched to singing words rather than expressing herself through sounds alone. Not necessarily the happiest time for the band, who reportedly avoided each other during its recording, but still some of the dreamiest dream pop about at the time. Includes the song 'Rilkean Heart' which was penned about the late Jeff Buckley, a lifelong devotee of the poetry of Rainer Maria Rilke.

Review: The Moon and the Melodies, a remarkable collaboration between Cocteau Twins and ambient pioneer Harold Budd, remains a standout achievement in both artists' repertoires. First released in 1986, this enchanting album is now receiving a well-deserved vinyl reissue, meticulously remastered by Robin Guthrie from the original tapes. This album is a stunning fusion of the Cocteau Twins' signature dreamlike atmospheres with Budd's elegant, improvisational piano, resulting in a listening experience that is both expansive and deeply personal. The blending of Elizabeth Fraser's ethereal vocals, seamlessly intertwined with Guthrie's luminous guitar work and Raymonde's resonant bass, creates a sound that is both distinct and evocative. The album effortlessly balances vocal tracks with instrumentals, each adding to its rich and diverse sonic palette. This reissue offers a chance to rediscover a defining moment in the evolution of dream pop and ambient music. The Moon and the Melodies continues to stun audiences. This CD edition is the perfect vehicle to an ethereal beauty of the highest order.

Review: The Moon and the Melodies, a collaboration between Cocteau Twins and ambient pioneer Harold Budd, stands as a unique gem in both artists' discographies. Originally released in 1986, this ethereal album is now being reissued on vinyl, remastered from the original tapes by Robin Guthrie. Unlike anything else the Cocteau Twins ever produced, this record blends their dreamlike soundscapes with Budd's serene, improvisational piano work. The result is an atmospheric journey, at once intimate and expansive. Tracks like 'Sea, Swallow Me' shine with Elizabeth Fraser's otherworldly vocals, intertwined with Guthrie's shimmering guitar and Raymonde's grounding bass, creating a sound that feels both familiar and entirely unique. Instrumentals like 'Memory Gongs' and 'The Ghost Has No Home' highlight Budd's delicate piano, enhanced by the band's signature ambient textures. The album is a study in contrasts, vocal tracks sit alongside instrumentals, each contributing to a cohesive yet diverse listening experience. For fans, this reissue is a chance to revisit a pivotal moment in the evolution of dream pop and ambient music. The album's enduring appeal is evident in its continued influence in social media. The Moon and the Melodies remains a shining light that can happen when artists from different realms come together to create something truly timeless.

They would eventually meet at the Gilman Street Project in Berkeley, California, and bond over a bottle of Jameson and a shared love of all things hip-hop and punk oriented. Add Fat Mike of NOFX to the mix, and you have Codefendants. The title of their debut album This Is Crime Wave comes from their self-classified genre of 'Crime Wave', but to be more specific, imagine elements of hip-hop, new wave, flamenco, and a hearty dose of the Beatles, conjured by a trio of punks and MCs.

Review: Numero Group have embarked on a reissues bundle of slowcore pioneer band Codeine's first and last albums, as well as an intermediary EP. 'Frigid Stars' is the former, and made for a remarkable debut album, epitomizing the late-80s-to-early-90s sound that still continues to influence trailblazers in the genre to this day, from Deathcrash to Bardo Pond. Codeine laid it bare before its name was coined: proto-slowcore is heavy, but not aggressive; quiet, but not silent; its vocals are hushed but present, perhaps reflecting the mood of doom that had set upon the local music scene in New York, where the band originate from. Thematically, the LP deals with angsty themes from loss to despair, with choice cuts like 'When I See The Sun' lumbering through ultra-reverb, gothic melodic lulls and guitarry plods to the death.

Review: The self-titled debut studio album by Jacksonville-based rock band Cold, originally released in 1998. Discovered by A&R man Fred Durst (from Limp Bizkit), Cold burst onto the scene with this potent blend of raw emotion, haunting melodies, and powerful instrumentation. Led by vocalist Scoot Ward, the band quickly garnered attention for their introspective lyrics and intense live performances. With a variegated nu-metal sound - the listener is only first thrust into an ostensibly incendiary sound with 'Go Away', both satisfyingly crisp and grungey in equal measure, before finding respite in the more temperate moments that pepper the record, as on 'Ugly' or 'Strip Her Down' - Cold recalls every influence between Alice In Chains and Type O Negative, and nestles a palpably unique sense of longing in the cracks between the otherwise more prescriptive pillars of the grunge style.

With Chris Martin's distinctive voice at the helm, the album features anthems like 'Clocks' and 'The Scientist' which blend atmospheric rock with introspective lyrics. Tracks such as 'God Put a Smile Upon Your Face' and 'In My Place' highlight the band's ability to fuse melodic hooks with poignant themes and the album's exploration of love, loss and introspection, supported as always by grand and dynamic arrangements and epic production, remains a standout in the band's catalogue.

Chris Martin and band have tapped into something that helps listeners transcend and feel connected on a higher level. There’s an array of top-tier collaborators involved, including the mighty Jon Hopkins and Louis Cole, so it goes on a spectacular journey sonically. ‘We Pray’ (featuring Little Simz and Burna Boy among others) taps into Afrobeats and is one of the most cutting-edge major pop singles. And 'AETERNA’ lifts its backbeat from Brainfeeder signee Louis Cole’s ‘Weird Part Of The Night’, which is a great touch and indicative of an expertly A&R’d album that lifts up so many great contemporary musicians.

CD1 takes us back to 2007 and a set from Buenos Aries heavy on early classics ('Yellow', 'Clocks', 'God Put a Smile On My Face', 'Fix You' etc.), while CD2 finds the Winchester band at UEA in Norwich in 2011, performing said classics alongside more tracks that turned them into global indie-pop superstars ('Mylo Xyloto', 'Viva La Vida'). Disc three, the most recent performance of the lot, dates from 2016 and includes, amongst its numerous highlights, soaring, stadium-sized takes on 'Paradise', 'Hymn for the Weekend' and Leonard Cohen classic 'Suzanne'.

The American rock band recorded this latest opus at Elvis Presley's estate in Palm Springs, CA, notably being the only other music artist to ever record at the historical landmark where the Presleys spent their honeymoon. Led by the philogynist's anthem 'Mother's Love', we're met with gnarly blues riffs and aerated, pipe-tubed drumming, amounting to a whopping avowal of a rock n' roll career still carrying on strong.

Review: 'Girl Like You' hitmaker and former Orange Juice frontman Edwyn Collins has written some absolute corkers in his time and against all the odds - he's been through the wars with his health - is on life-affirming form still. This is his tenth solo album and, like his previous album Badbea, it was recorded in the beautiful Clashnarrow Studios in the Highland village of Helmsdale. The setting clearly a productive space as there's tunes on here that sit right up there with Collins' best work. 'The Heart Is A Foolish Little Thing' is a masterpiece so good it will likely either inspire budding songwriters or make them give up because they know that's the level to get to and it feels untouchable. 'Strange Old World' is another standout, with a bit of a darkly atmospheric Tarantino vibe. And ' The Mountains Are My Home' delves into more traditional folk and feels incredibly heartfelt, like we're being welcomed into Collins' home for tea.

It saw him working with former 2Tone label associates Toby Lyons and Karl Shale and their self-titled debut single saw them launch to immediate acclaim on cult UK TV show The Tube. Their next single 'Take' was just as big and in 1985 came their debut album with further hits 'Thinking of You', 'Castles In The Air' and later on some standout and standalone singles 'I Can't Get Enough of You Baby' and 'Things Could Be Beautiful.' All those and more are collected here.

Review: Jack Kenworthy's latest album under the longtime Moniker Colouring is a veritable headstand. Whereas his earlier projects dealt in made-up scenarios in the lyrics, Love To You Mate concerns the loss of his brother-in-law to bowel cancer and the subsequent coming-closer to his family, making this the first album to deal with a focussed, concretely personal subject matter. Continuing Colouring's post-Britpop slant, taking cues from Coldplay, Elbow and Keane through to the more electronic and contemporary influences in the genre such as James Blake and Radiohead, this is a deep-dive into a sorely-untrodden theme for indie singer-songwriter music; that of the family reuniting over the ties that truly bind.

Review: COMA has always operated in a world where melody is in high supply and indie and electronica have collided in fresh new ways. The artist is not one to hide away from a big hook or a pop tip line and always manages to imbue their work with tons of emotion. This new album is another step forward that investigates sonic realms ask just how broad the scope of club music can really be. That means Fuzzy Fantasy is in many ways a departure from all-out dance floor focus into something more human and nuanced.

Review: If you missed The Comet is Coming's brilliant debut album, Channel The Spirits, first time around, help is at hand. Happily, the Leaf label has decided to reissue the Mercury Music Prize nominated album, expanding it to two discs via the addition of 2015's similarly sublime Prophecy EP and a trio of previously unheard wig-outs. The genius of the London combo's music lies in their unique and eccentric approach to musical fusion. While their roots lie in fusing spiritual jazz and freaky psychedelic rock, keen listeners will hear a myriad of other influences and inspirations seeping into their distinctive instrumental compositions, from spiraling electronica, Afrobeat and skewed funk, to ambient, dub, drum and bass, Roots Manuva and low-slung industrial funk.

Review: Confidence Man's relocation from Australia to London has ignited a new era with their upcoming third studio album, 3am (La La La). Embracing their signature audacity, the duo - Janet Planet and Sugar Bones - have crafted an album that dives deeper into the realms of hedonism and euphoria, fueled by their nocturnal creative sessions. Describing the album as "darker, sexier, and more surreal," Confidence Man blend 90s and 00s UK rave influences with a contemporary edge, with tracks like 'I Can't Lose You' and 'Real Move Touch' (featuring Sweetie) Irie exuding an infectious energy that spans breakbeat, trance, and techno, echoing the punk spirit of legends like The Prodigy. Inspired by encounters with idols like KLF and immersion in London's queer club scene, 3am (La La La) promises to be a sensory trip through pulsating beats and unbridled creativity. It follows their acclaimed sophomore release TILT and collaborations that have expanded their sonic palette. This album introduces their wild, irrepressible spirit to a wider audience, offering an exhilarating escape from the mundane into their eccentric and exhilarating universe.

Review: Confidence Man's third album, 3AM (LA LA LA), captures the wild energy of London's club scene and the 90s rave culture, blending euphoric dance beats with a darker undercurrent. Written during late-night studio sessions, the album pulses with breakbeat, trance, and techno influences, pushing their sound into bolder, more intense territory. Tracks like 'I Can't Lose You' and 'So Whay' hit with fierce, rave-ready energy, while vocalist Janet Planet's playful lyrics echo the spontaneity of a night out. The group's penchant for theatricality and fun comes alive in their live shows, full of synchronised dance moves and chaotic party vibes. Compared to their lighter 2022 album Tilt, 3AM (LA LA LA) is a wilder, harder experienceia hedonistic celebration that reflects the delirious, sweaty-ceilinged clubs. It's Confidence Man at their boldest, offering an electrifying escape.

Review: Julian Cope's My Nation Underground is an album ready for rediscovery and it now gets reissued as a faithful replica of the original 1988 Mercury Records UK release and pressed on high-quality 180g vinyl. Following the success of Saint Julian, Cope surprised fans by changing his band lineup and blending funk with Krautrock with veteran producer Ron Fair at the helm. The album includes three singles, mostly notably 'Charlotte Anne' which was a minor US hit. The opener, '5 O'Clock World', is a cover of a 1965 Vogues song and is upbeat and poppy, while the seven-minute title track uniquely combines go-go beats with post-punk elements.

Review: Author and musician Julian Cope, formerly of Teardrop Explodes, is a leftfield national treasure. His books contain some of the funniest and most imaginative stories ever printed and as a musician he is the essence of rock n' roll. This latest album - the follow-up to 2023's excellent Robin Hood - is Cope at his most melodic. It contains nods to the likes of spook rocker Joe Meek, Velvet Underground and Krautrock, with a smorgasbord of guitar tones, mellotron and loose Moe Tucker-esque drumming. Cope's lyrics, with plenty of humour and off-kilter references, are a joy to dive into as they're cloaked in some of the best music he's ever composed.

Review: With their prior double album Coral Island still ringing in our ears and heaped with praise, Liverpool's The Coral return with a new, concept-laden follow-up taking its cues from Morricone soundtracks and creating their own backing to an imagined 'lost' Spaghetti Western. That musical influence has long been detectable in their music, but now they double down on the inspiration by trying to answer self-imposed questions such as, 'what would have happened if Lee Hazlewood had produced a Gene Pitney song written by Townes Van Zandt?' If those cues don't already get you excited, then also bear in mind their guest contributors include such acting royalty as Cillian Murphy and John Simm, which has to be worth the price of entry alone.

Review: Cornelius is the work of Japanese multi-instrumentalist Keigo Oyamada and he returned last year with the highly anticipated album Dream in Dream, his first full-length release since 2017's Mellow Waves. By blending avant-garde jazz, soulful r&b and psychedelic electronics, the album creates a breezy, sun-soaked soundscape and after that Cornelius gained international fame with Fantasma, which was standout for its cut-and-paste style akin to Beck and The Beastie Boys. Often compared to Brian Wilson for his intricate production, Cornelius has worked with artists like Blur and MGMT and Dream in Dream continues his innovative work with angular guitars, lush synths, and syncopated drums for a bright yet contemplative sound.

Review: For his seventh studio release 'Dream in Dream', Cornelius (Keigo Oyamada) continues his genre-hopping streak, carving out new space for his sonic explorations. Best known for shaping Japan's alternative music scene and crafting intricate soundscapes, Oyamada's latest effort is a hazy, rhythmically adventurous blend that flirts with ambient jazz, r&b, and a dash of retro-futurist electronics. His knack for blending disparate elements into something cohesive remains intact. Opening the record, his signature use of angular guitars and tight synth layers dances around syncopated beats, pulling listeners into a dreamlike groove. But there's more at play than surface-level nostalgia or easy listening. While many might remember the cut-and-paste genius of 'Fantasma', or his remixes for artists like Blur and MGMT, here Oyamada seems more interested in texture and atmosphere than in outright hooks. Despite a nod to 70s synth influences, this isn't a direct callback to any specific era. 'Dream in Dream' unfolds like a wandering conversationiimprovised in parts, yet controlled in its overall direction. The songs balance bright, airy tones with moments of contemplation, capturing the warmth of the past while remaining firmly planted in today's soundscapes. A steady, thoughtful progression for Cornelius, offering something both familiar and unexpected.

Review: The long-awaited reissue of the debut album from French goth rock outfit, Corpus Delicti, finally arrives to shatter the hopes of Discogs flippers still standing by their 700 quid price-tags. Restoring the original artwork created by the band as well as an insert sporting all of the lyrics; there's never been a more ample opportunity to rediscover a macabre, post-punk classic, teeming with coldwave atmospherics, frosted, jangling guitar work, and ethereal, cavernous production which casts a lysergic despondency over the sonics, at times warring between serene acceptance and jittering, punk-laden despair. It's almost bizarre to process how three decades has done little to dilute the potency of this melting pot project, feeling incredibly of its time while forward thinking in its compositional dynamism.

Review: Seven strong San Francisco rock band Counting Crows have always walked a fine line between intimate storytelling and grandiose soundscapes. This time - taking the four tracks from their Butter Suite pt 1 Ep and adding five more new tracks - they sound like a band utterly in control of their own narrative. Adam Duritz's lyrics reflect a certain self-assurance as they weave through themes of reinvention and regret. Musically, the band brings a tighter, more focused intensity, merging rock, folk and even hints of alt-country with the ease of a band at their peak. 'Spaceman In Tulsa' takes its time, unfolding languidly, savouring every detail before pushing forward. And in moments like 'Boxcars,' it's clear this is the most cohesive they've sounded in years, with every instrument serving the story rather than competing for attention. They've done the work, and now, it's all paying off.

Review: Counting Crows' sequent 2021's Butter Miracle: Suite One with The Complete Sweets! Now expanding on the themes of its predecessor, the record hears all four tracks from Suite One alongside five new songs, blending this heartsick Berkeley, CA band's signature storytelling with sweeping melodies and raw emotion. Leading the charge is 'Spaceman In Tulsa', a striking single that not only marks their first new music in nearly five years, but appropriately concerns itself with the theme of metamorphosis - "the way music breaks down who we were and spins us into something new. It's about broken lives becoming something better," in the words of frontman Adam Duritz. The record coincides with a fresh tour kicking off in Nashville in Spring 2025, with stops across North America and Europe.

Review: Manchester indie icons The Courteeners - second only to Oasis in their home city - treated fans to a retrospective promo run in 2023 after releasing the 15th anniversary edition of the album that made them stars: St. Jude. And they landed their first number one in the process. Riding off the back of that success, Liam Fray and co. have an album of all new songs for 2024 and have done it in tandem with the aid of a new generation of indie risers and more established names. This, their seventh studio album, is easily their most collaborative work to-date. Stone Roses-esque Aussies the DMA's, hotly-tipped indie pop singer Pixey, The Coral-backed singer Brooke Coombe were handpicked to be featured artists, while the likes of The Coral's Ian and James Skelly and Blossoms' bassist Charlie Salt are on the record too. One of The Courteeners biggest strengths is their ear for a hook that sticks and in this respect listeners to the new album won't be disappointed. The single 'Solitude On The Night Bus' is a major case in point. It will have you whistling it long after it's stopped playing. Elsewhere, 'The Beginning Of The End' is euphoric with soaring vocals and lush instrumental arrangements. Perhaps they've taken after the Coral in doing so but the introduction of steadier tempos and their nods to Phil Spector's wall of sound technique is something they wear well. Their best since St. Jude.

Review: Liverpool's Courting are a breath of fresh air, totally breaking from the received traditions of their home city with an overarchingly alt-rock album, New Last Name, with sounds distinctly informed by the emo and punk sounds known to have developed in the USA, though in reality it weaves between indie and dance-pop too. New Last Name is unabashed in its melodic sensibility and high-fantasmic references; unrestrained and chaotic, the album always meanders stylistically but always brings it together, largely by way of its notable use of autotune on every track on Sean Murphy O'Neill's vocals. An amazing sophomore record to complement 2022's Guitar Music.

Review: Following a couple of low-key EPs and mini-albums on tiny independent labels, Cousin Kula's debut full-length has been snapped up by Rhythm Section International. It was a shrewd move by boss man Bradley Zero, because Double Dinners is undeniably lovely. Lusciously executed and pleasingly laidback, it sees the Bristol band effortlessly join the dots between horizontal, soft-focus jazz-rock, shuffling downtempo grooves and dewy-eyed soul. It's a far more warming, comforting and meditative affair that some of their more raucous and upbeat output, something that band puts down to composing it during lockdown, when meditative music was a necessity. Even as society begins to open up, it still feels essential - a sign of the album's timeless class.

Formed in Toronto, Canada by bassist Alan Anton, songwriter and guitarist Michael Timmins, drummer Peter Timmins and vocalist Margo Timmins, the record is dominated by covers of classic rock and blues tracks, with 'Take Me' the only original song included. If that sounds like a brave move for a new group the response proves there's pay-off in risk. Whites Off Earth Now!! sparked a cult following for the band, first at a local level before word of mouth spread south of the border and gig offers began taking them to the southern US. International fame followed with 1988's follow up, The Trinity Session, so consider this a long overdue opportunity to revisit, or discover, chapter one.

Review: Cranes' third album, Loved offers the band's unique blend of alternative rock, shoegaze, dream-pop, and darkwave. Released in 1994, it solidified Cranes' reputation for crafting beautifully orchestrated and constructed songs that evoke a strange and powerful atmosphere. Fresh off their tour opening for the The Cure in late 1992, Cranes returned to their gothic roots while still maintaining the essence of their previous album, Forever. The album shows a variety of musical styles and emotions, Loved is a masterpiece of minimalistic perfection, seamlessly blending gothic ether and shoegaze droning. Even decades later, its beauty remains timeless. Cranes evoke a longing for connection amidst dreamy atmospheres. Unexpected bursts of sonic exaltation punctuate the album, adding to its magnificence. Now available as a 30th-anniversary edition on white marbled vinyl, Loved is a must-have for fans of Cranes and anyone who appreciates finely crafted alternative music. Review: The extensive box set Collected Works Vol 1' offers a comprehensive exploration of Cranes' groundbreaking output on the Dedicated label from 1989 to 1997. Spanning albums, B-sides, remixes, rarities and live recordings, this curated collection provides a thorough retrospective of the band's evolution over their initial ten-year incarnation. Led by siblings Alison and Jim Shaw, Cranes established themselves as one of the most distinctive bands of the late 1980s and 1990s, transcending categorization with their ever-mutating sound. From the raw intensity of their 1989 mini album Self-Non-Self to the sophisticated grandeur of 1997's Population Four, Cranes showcased a sonic diversity that defied genre conventions. Curated by singer Alison Shaw and adorned with artwork by 4AD graphic design legend Chris Bigg, Collected Works Vol 1 serves as a poignant reminder of Cranes' magnificence. Their journey from stark, noisy soundscapes to bolder, more intricate arrangements reflects their unparalleled ability to traverse ethereal rock, dream pop, shoegaze, industrial, and neo-classical realms. For fans, this box set is a treasure trove, offering a deep dive into Cranes' musical legacy. For the curious, it provides an immersive experience that encapsulates the essence of one of the finest bands of the 1990s.

Review: Cranes were a British alternative band formed in 1985. Long before the Dream Pop subgenre name came out, the band earned a cult following culminating in 1992 opening for The Cure on their Wish tour of America. Strangely, there catalogue has been mostly untouched as far as reissues are concerned. But, the news of a remaster and reissue is even better! Originally released in 1986, their debut album Fuse was a cassette only purchase and for 38 years it has stayed that way. Until now! Fans of shoegaze, goth, dream pop and indie should pick this up without question to hear how ahead of time the band's music was.

Review: The cult favourite Dark Entries hits 15 in style here and celebrates in the only way it knows how - with more great music. This time it is the legendary synth-punk yahoos Crash Course in Science aka Dale Feliciello, Mallory Yago, and Michael Zodorozny who are in the spotlight. The group formed back in 1979 and set out to make music using toy instruments and kitchen appliances. Their punk-y, aggressive, angular sound soon found a hardcore fan base and gave rise to big tunes like 'Cardboard Lamb' and 'Flying Turns.' In 1981 they recorded Near Marineland, a full-length that never actually saw the light of day but does now and shows the band moving into more diverse and polished territory.

Review: Creed's Human Clay 25th Anniversary reissue on grey smoked vinyl celebrates the 1999 album that catapulted the band to global stardom. With its anthemic lead single 'Higher,' which spent 57 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100, and other rock staples like 'What If' and 'With Arms Wide Open,' this album defined the post-grunge era. Debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and selling over 20 million copies, Human Clay became a defining soundtrack of its time. The gatefold double LP reissue offers a nostalgic look back at Creed's monumental success, making it a coveted collector's item for fans of the rock scene of the late 90s and early 2000s.

Review: Experimental electronic supergroup Creep Show are certainly a dream team, with the band made up of various members of certain timeless acts: John Grant (of Hercules & Love Affair), Stephen Mallinder (Cabaret Voltaire), Benge (Wrangler) and Phil Winter (Tunng). The album is a mix of darksynth, industrial funk and experimental noise, with vocals by Grant and Malinger providing a surreal, vocoded oeuvre. The titular 'Yawning Abyss' is ploddy and skeletal enough, but then we move into the real meat of things with the likes of 'Bungalow' and 'Moneyback', which carry on the album's extant deathly techno-dysoptian vibe with an increasingly post-punky effect.

Review: Crumb's latest album, Amama, continues to enchant listeners with their signature blend of psych-rock, jazz and indie pop and, with 12 tracks, it's their most expansive offering yet. The three singles released ahead of the album promise a seamless continuation of Crumb's dreamy atmosphere and intricate melodies. Rather than a departure, these singles serve as a comforting reminder of the genres they've mastered, effortlessly combining smooth psych-jazz with bedroom and dream-pop elements. Lila Ramani's ethereal vocals, accompanied by Brian Aronow's synth wizardry, Jesse Brotter's solid basslines, and Jonathan Gilad's precise drumming, create a captivating sonic journey. With Amama, Crumb reaffirms their position as innovators in the indie music scene, delivering an album that is both familiar and refreshingly new.

Review: Charles Rowell stops off for another release under his Crush Of Souls moniker, hammering yet another gothic sonic nail in the coffin. Recorded at the aptly named Catacomb Soul studios, where he had recently finished recording the antecedent release '(A)Void Love', Rowell's latest LP is dedicated to the French capital city Paris, but we've a sense that *his* Paris isn't *our* Paris. There are of course catacombs in Paris, subjacent to the metropolis' surface romances. With the LP's title punning on French words for "lizard" and "desire", a lustily unnerving synthpop record unfolds, and this is one mood requiring only the slightest touch of grimness to evoke: such as pitchy, drawled vocals on the otherwise glittery and well-rounded 'Cult Of Two', and eighteenth note tenebrae on 'No Soul', serving to bury an otherwise melodic tune in hollow chaos.

Review: A limited-edition version of one of the high-water marks of The Cult's back catalogue. Originally released in 2001, it was their first album in more than six years and showcases the band's return to their signature rock sound while also dabbling with new techniques. It's the only Cult album to feature one of rock's all-time greats - Guns N' Roses' Matt Sorum - on drums. And it's immensely powerful, with 'War (The Process)' and 'Take The Power' leaving you breathless thanks to flashy guitar solos and head banging choruses. Elsewhere, 'Nico' slows things down a bit - a lighter in the air moment perhaps. Overall, it's an epic rock production singing all the right notes by bringing a dash of goth to classic rock.
