Progressive House
Fleuron Drift (7:14)
Fleuron Drift (Theo Kottis remix) (6:52)
Fleuron Drift (Kassian remix) (6:15)
Review: Sasha's Fleuron Drift epitomises classic progressive house, showcasing his expertise in the genre. The original track features a strong melodic build and consistent energy throughout, captivating listeners with its dynamic progression. On the B-side, the remixes kick off with Theo Kottis' remix injects a more upbeat and trance-like vibe, with futuristic and techy elements. The growling bassline adds intensity, while a melodic break and tension release keep the energy flowing. In contrast, Kassian's remix takes a more minimal approach, focusing on groove. Stripping back the layers, it emphasizes rhythm and movement, creating a hypnotic atmosphere that draws listeners into its depths. Overall, Fleuron Drift and its remixes offer a diverse range of sounds and styles, staying true to the essence of classic progressive house.

How To Wear Raybans Well
Cat: LNOE 159. Rel: 02 Sep 24

Progressive House
How To Wear Raybans Well (7:17)
How To Wear Raybans Well (Nathan Fake remix) (6:44)
How To Wear Raybans Well (Roman Flugel remix) (8:39)
Review: Sasha, a man who once popularised ponytails during his acid house era pomp, has some sonic advice on 'How To Wear Raybans Well'. His latest single - arguably his strongest for sometime - is tactile, big-room house hypnotism writ large, with heady, huggable synth riffs, retro-futurist stabs and spacey tech-house noises rising above a rolling bassline and locked-in beats. It's relatively deep and offers a contemporary spin on the kinds of records he would have played during his ascent to superstar status in the mid 1990s. It comes backed with two reworks: a heavier and more driving, but no less trippy or hypnotic, tech-house-meets-techno take courtesy of Nathan Fake, and a more glassy-eyed and mind-mangling Roman Flugel rub full of sequenced synthesiser lines, razor-sharp acid style motifs and plenty of snappy drum sounds.

Progressive House
Hold On (6:59)
Hold On (Artche mix) (6:00)
Review: Prog house legend Sasha collaborates with Newcastle's Artche on a stunning new track, 'Hold On,' which blends dramatic, sweeping synths with deep, moody basslines and emotional vocals. The original version is a cinematic journey, building with profound melodies and lush chords that create an expansive, atmospheric vibe. The track is both sophisticated and impactful, with its grand architecture tugging at the heartstrings. The 'Artche Mix' offers a different twist, working in airy, dusty broken beats while keeping the original's vocals and synths. This version introduces a fresh rhythm and texture, yet still retains the emotional core of the track. Both mixes highlight the collaborative synergy between Sasha and Artche, showcasing their ability to craft deeply emotive, melodic dance music.

Minimal/Tech House
Phaxon (8:10)
Phaxon (Einmusik remix) (6:32)
Review: Sasha is back with another standout release on his own label, Last Night On Earth, this time joining forces with Jody Barr. After recent collaborations with Super Flu and Sentre as well as his solo hits like 'Florian Drift' and 'How to Wear Raybans Well', Sasha remains a leading figure in the melodic house and techno world. Jody Barr, with releases on Krankbrother, among others, brings his rugged, hardware-driven sound to the mix. Their track 'Phaxon' is an elegant, emotive affair, while Einmusik's remix adds a darker, club-ready edge.

Progressive House
HiFiHi (7:10)
HiFiHi (LoFiLo mix) (4:58)
Review: Sasha's journey from trailblazer in the late-90s to one of the most influential figures in the dance music scene is a saga that feels as expansive as his discography. Having spent decades shaping the sound of progressive house, his career is a masterclass in reinvention i and collaboration. Whether you're hearing him weave his magic through orchestral synths, deep baselines, or finely tuned atmospherics, it's clear that Sasha never rests on his laurels. His latest collaboration with Joseph Ashworth continues this legacy. Known for his work with labels like Anjunadeep, Needwant and Pets Recordings, Ashworth brings his textured, melody-driven style to the mix, further enhancing Sasha's exploration of emotional soundscapes. The single 'HiFiHi' adds another layer to Sasha's ongoing journey, with the original mix offering cinematic build-ups and euphoric moments, while the LoFiLo Mix opts for a more introspective, vulnerable tone. Together, the tracks highlight a refined maturity in both producers' craft, reinforcing Sasha's place as a key figure in contemporary electronic music.

Glastacy
Glastacy (limited 12" in hand-numbered sleeve)
Cat: LNOE 157. Rel: 19 Jul 24

Progressive House
Glastacy (7:58)
Glastacy (Intro/outro mix) (5:14)
Review: Last Night On Earth is trance legend Sasha's current label outing, and it is now celebrating its ninth year of platforming fresh, tittillating talent. Sasha still continues to release original music through the imprint, and here follows up 2023's 'Track 10' with a glistening new collaboration with Sentre, 'Glastacy'. The structure of this new 12" reveals the process of its composition, which is more than can be said for most trance records, which otherwise tend to revel more in the finished product. The B-sider reveals the looping, mesmerising vocal sample around which the A-side version is constructed, emphasising that, despite the decision to turn 'Glastacy' into a punchy, depthy, hi-tech prog-trance heater, none of these are essentials, more embellishments that evince the pure freedom evoked in the track. More tracks should be made with these 'backbones' in mind.

Astra
Astra (hand-numbered 12")
Cat: LNOE 155. Rel: 12 Dec 24

Deep House
Astra (6:02)
Astra (Sasha Daydream mix) (7:52)
Review: Sasha's latest collaboration with Super Flu, 'Astra,' is another example to the magic of collaboration. The track is a rich blend of Sasha's signature sense of melody, drama, and energy, combined with Super Flu's boundary-pushing, rule-breaking sound. 'Astra' is electrifying, with smart effects and filters creating a smudged and stretched vocal over rising synth tension. The heavy drums add to the track's intensity, building towards a dramatic breakdown before setting off again with tightly woven drums and synths. The Sasha Daydream Mix offers a more blissed-out and late-night rework, with soothing shakers, floating drums, and deft synth lines creating a soothing and atmospheric effect. This collaboration is a true showcase of creativity and connection, promising to resonate deeply with listeners on the dancefloor.
