Ohm Series #10
Cat: OHM 010. Rel: 26 Jul 24
Monomood - "Spring In Space" (7:22)
Octal Industries - "Rewind Repeat" (6:55)
G-Prod & Taho - "Light Forest" (7:16)
Gradient - "Noosphere" (7:12)
Review: Ohm Series #10 continues to be a shining example of the remarkable work being done in the dub techno genre, consistently featuring top-tier producers who excel in their craft. On Side-1, Monomood kicks things off with 'Spring In Space,' a track that boasts deep sub-bass hits and long, blending chords. Its strong kick and clean production make it a powerful example of dub techno at its finest. Following this, Octal Industries delivers 'Rewind Repeat,' a piece that layers epic strings and a soaring melody over an abstract broken beat. Powerful and evocative! Side-2 opens with G-Prod and Taho's'"Light Forest,' an uptempo dub techno track with a techy edge. Its smooth production and dancefloor-ready vibe make it a seamless fusion of technical prowess and groove. Closing out the release is Gradient's 'Track 4,' which offers classic dub techno sounds. Gradient's exceptional craftsmanship is evident in this track, which epitomizes the lush textures and hypnotic rhythms that define the genre. Overall, Ohm Series #10 upholds its reputation by delivering high-quality dub techno that resonates with both purists and new listeners alike. This release is an ideal example to the innovative spirit of the genre.

A Better Tomorrow (Mothership mix) (6:20)
Price We Pay (Mothership dub) (6:43)
Review: The dynamic duo Octave One starts off 2024 with a new EP that features new versions of two of their own classics and a brand new song. 'Price We Pay' has two remixes featured here, with the both being massive main stage crowd pleasers. 'Mirror Image' is a slick downtempo track that shows the pair's creativity for making great dance music. Last, the new version of 'A Better Tomorrow' is updated to be more futuristic and spacey. Messages From The Mothership Volume 1 are a great sign of things to come as Octave One explores more of their long and impressive discography.

Cat: WPR 001. Rel: 28 Jul 21
Precipitation (5:15)
Intertidal Zone (5:40)
Littoral Drift (5:25)
Golden Hour (5:40)
Review: Melbourne-based party Wax'o Paradiso kicks off its own new record label here with an inaugural EP from OK EG. It's an outfit made up of Lauren Squire and Matthew Wilson, but here expands to take in Phil Stroud on percussion, Jack Doepel of Krakatau on the keys and Mildlif's Adam Halliwel playing flute. This miniature super group serve up the sort of escapist ambient rhythms that sooth mind, body and soul. 'Precipitation' is the laissez-faire opener, 'Intertidal Zone' rolls a little deeper and dubbier and 'Littoral Drift' has a little percolating skip to its clean and serene rhythms. 'Golden Hour' is the oh-so soothing and new age closer.

Elastic (Phase I) (10:26)
Elastic (Phase II) (7:27)
Elastic (Phase III) (5:39)
Review: Opal Sunn's 'Elastic' lands on Test Pressing Recordings as the first in a trilogy, bringing together Alex Kassian and Hiroaki Oba's knack for genre-blending electronic soundscapes. Known for their captivating live sets, they've crafted an EP that traverses moods and styles. The A-side opens with hypnotic deep trance, layering rich synth textures and rolling grooves. Over on the B-side, things get lush and atmospheric: one track dives into dub influences, saturated with warm basslines and echoing chords, while the final cut drifts into serene, ambient territory. It's an impressive start that shows their mastery of both rhythm and space.

The Shape Of Things To Come (9:34)
Review: 3 track EP by Overlords of the UFO, including 2 previously unreleased tracks and one track released on an earlier EP named Transcendental Overdrive.

All tracks were produced in the late 90's.

This EP continues the trademark retro sci-fi analogue synth vibe of Overlords of the UFO and is the 2nd release by Enlightenment Records.

Review: It's been nearly eight years since Orbital's last full-length, the decidedly mediocre Blue. For this unlikely comeback album, the Hartnoll brothers have wisely gone back to what they did best - namely club-friendly electronica bristling with big moments, cinematic melodies and catchy synth riffs. There are tracks that recall their greatest work - see the "Belfast"-ish strings of "Stringy Acid" or "The Girl With The Sun In Her Head" style "New France" - and cuts that offer a timely reminder of their ability to create sublime electronic music. It's not perfect, by any means - there are two awkward and incongruous attempts at dubstep - but there's enough to excite, not least a bonus disc containing rousing live versions of some of their greatest hits.

Review: Last year, someone set up an online petition calling for Warp to re-release The Other People Place's brilliant Lifestyles Of The Laptop Cafe album on wax. Happily, Warp has responded to the strength of feeling from electronica fans - most of whom bristled at the high online prices for second hand copies - and re-pressed it. Drexciya man James Stinson's 2001 solo set remains a timeless electronic classic; a perfectly pitched and immaculately produced fusion of downtempo electro rhythms, spacey electronics and twinkling synthesizer melodies. In fact, you'll struggle to find a better electro album full stop, making this reissue an essential purchase for anyone not lucky enough to own an original copy.
