Review: The late, great Lee Scratch Perry is sure to love on forever given the vast size of his masterful and genre defining oeuvre. It helped to soundtrack a generation both with his own solo work as well as the production he did for others in his acclaimed studio. Here we find him laying down his trademark vocal mutterings over a rhythm by his famous backing band The Upsetters. It's full of ricocheting hits and snaking hi hats, rumbling bass and loose drums. On the flip, The 18th Parallel rework it into 'Spring Thunderstorm,' a slightly more roomy dub version that still hits hard.

Review: Music on Vinyl serve up a special green vinyl reissue of this legendary The Upsetters album from 1978. All the individual copies are hand numbered and the whole thing was of course produced by the late great Lee 'Scratch' Perry. It was the last record he did in his legendary Black Ark studio before he closed it down (and later burnt it down thinking it was possessed by evil spirts). It is another superb highlight of his skill on the studio mixing desk, with taped out dubs, hissing hi hats and meandering melodies that burrow deep into your brain and body.

Review: A showcase of the remarkable production skills of undisputed dub master Lee “Scratch” Perry, this is the final Upsetters LP to be recorded at The Black Ark studio before its closure. Scouring the prolific wealth of Perry material can be paralyzing - this is an almost insurmountable condition in today's age of online-mediated music a la carte, where in which, terrifyingly for upstart fans seeking to establish some semblance of taste, just about every release is available for listening at the click of a mouse - this one is thankfully among the best, with Goldenlane doing well to recapture the Upsetters at their zenith. Spanning such far-flung poles as acid dub Afrofutures ('Psyche & Trim') and primitivist origin stories in sound ('Return Of The Super Ape'), this is a synthetic, wacky album, and should be regarded as one of the canon that is the outer reaches of dub.
