Bentford All Stars - "Greedy G" (3:40)
Dub Specialist - "Granny Scratch Scratch" (3:57)
Review: For the latest in their series of "giant 45s" - loud 12" pressings of classic cuts from the Studio One vaults - Soul Jazz has decided to offer-up a fresh pressing of Brentford All Stars' 'Greedy G'. Based on James Brown classic 'Get On The Good Foot', the track was famously sampled by Boogie Down Productions on their iconic cut 'Jack of Spades'. It remains a bona fide party classic, adding a bass-heavy, Hammond-heavy reggae spin to Brown's insatiable funk groove. As it did the last time Soul Jazz issued it back in 1988, it comes backed with the deeper and more laidback 'Granny Scratch Scratch', another classic cut from Studio One's in-house backing band.

As Dub Goes By (3:37)
Review: English ska and dub singer Rhoda Dakar has been enjoying a renewed release schedule in recent years. As of late, Sunday Best Recordings (founded by Rob Da Bank and co., way back in 2000) has been adding to her fore, planning a series of rocksteady single releases, beginning with 2021's 'Everyday Is Like Sunday' and a complementary dub version. 'As Tears Go By' follows, being a new dub cover of the classic Stones' song. A must for all our dub, lovers' rock and rocksteady fans.

What A Wonderful World (3:58)
A Wonderful Version (3:53)
Review: Cheer up! Here's Sunday Best coming through with a much welcome dose of sunshine courtesy of Rhoda Dakar. On her fifth single for the label, she's going straight for the pleasure principle by taking on a gentle skanking reggae cover of Louis Armstrong's eternal 'What A Wonderful World'. Sure, you've heard it countless times before, but Dakar brings her mellow power to the track in perfect fashion, backed up by a tight crew of players who take track further out with the version on the flip.

Dub Don't Mind (3:14)
Review: 2Tone icon Rhoda Dakar is back on suitably dusty pink vinyl 7" given that it drops the day after Valentine's Day. This one is another reggae-infused cover following the success of her latest album, 'Version Girl.' 'I Don't Mind' was originally penned by Peter Shelley of Buzzcocks but here gets the Rhoda treatment, and is an homage to one of Rhoda's favourite songwriters. It pays tribute to Shelley's songwriting prowess and reflects on an encounter with Shelley in 2015. Dakar's soulful rendition of it means 'I Don't Mind' resonates as a timeless tribute.

Moving On (3:57)
Moving On (version) (4:03)
Review: Rock A Shaka is hella busy right now and continues to drop mad heat on a very busy schedule. It is now Dave & Earnest who step up with their unique take on reggae. This one is coloured by disco and boogie with dazzling results. 'Moving On' has big horns over soul-stepping beats and retro 80s drum sounds. The vocals drip with sexiness and a killer bassline finishes in style. The version dials it back to a fleshy dub with the tooting horns left in to get your juices going.

Review: Soma sub-label Avoidant Records recently put out a fantastic collection fo electro cuts but it was a digital only release. Now some of the standouts from it get pulled together on this fresh new 12"that joins the dots between Europe and Detroit. DJ Godfather kicks off with some rapid fire 313 electro, squirrelling bass and slick claps then 'One Direct Line' from The Exaltics is more cosmic and blissed out with lush ambient synths. On the flip, Flug goes hard with mad digital patterns and Blaktony layers up jacking drums, corrugated bass and dark hits. Great stuff.

Review: The superb Original Gravity label is back with more OG reggae brilliance and ska classics. This second volume of Ska Fever kicks off with a big stepper from Junior Dell & The D Lites in the form of 'Rude Girl' while Prince Alphonso & The Fever bring big playful brass to 'Malostran-Ska' and Junior Dell & The D Lites then return on the flipside of this 7" with 'Remember To Forget' which picks up the pace and is built on a hardcore rhythm. The legendary Woodfield Rd Allstars shut things down with a more melancholic vibe on 'Beseda Blues.'

Review: London's Original Gravity is a bastion of top notch dub and reggae and has been for a while. For their next outing they round up some of their best bits on a new compilation series they are rightly calling Boss Sounds. Volume 1 is a doozy that opens with label regulars Junior Dell & The D Lites and Woodfield Road Allstars. 'Skinhead Vibration' kicks things off with singing organ chords over slow, ska-tinged drums with plenty of sweet fills and a lively vocal up top. The Allstars then drop the more wobbly and funky number, 'The Mighty Big Ben Silekta' and two further jams on the flip that keep the riddims rolling.

Review: Dice The Boss's 'Gun The Man Down', originally released in 1969 on Trojan's Joe sublabel, embodies the essence of skinhead reggae. Its irresistible beats and meaningful lyrics enrapture listeners, solidifying its place as an enduring classic. Similarly, 'Your Boss DJ' highlights the era's cultural significance, brimming with energetic melodies and musical expertise. These reissued singles are essential for collectors, providing a window into the rich tapestry of Jamaican music history in Britain. With their profound impact and cultural significance, they are indispensable additions to any aficionado's collection.

Review: Dice The Boss (Hopeton Reid) is a rags to riches story in music.Coming from a very poor area in Kingston Jamaica to then emigrating to London in the late 60s where he MC-ed for Duke Vin & recorded many great records for the UK/Jamaican booming new Reggae market in its infancy on the shoulders of the Bluebeat & Ska & Rock Steady music scene. Two of those early classics are 'Tea House From Emperor Roscoe' and 'Brixton Cat'.from 1969 and 1970 respectfully. Both influential and very rare to be had on an original physical copy. Thankfully, Harlem Shuffle is here to make these gems more available.

Cocaine (dub)
Review: A prestigious re-release from 1983, Dillinger's heavily sampled "Cocaine" is a club reggae classic that poignantly summed up a time both culturally and musically. As does the dub... The raw edit version vibes with cut and splice excitement, tingling with the dusty air of old synths and tape machines. Play it once and it'll be running around your brain for days.

Duke Supersonic - "Love This Dub Mad" (2:57)
Review: The Peckings label kicks off the new year with this fine offering on 7" of 'Perfidia' (Alternate Mix) by Phyllis Dillon. It is a superbly feel-good bit of sunny lovers rock with Dillon's clear cut vocals soaring up both nice bass work and a languid rhythm that tumbles freely. After that comes 'Perfidia Dub' by Duke Supersonic to close out the A-side and the B-side has another one from Dillion in the form of 'Love The One You're With' which has a more yearning, downbeat vocal delivery that speaks of real pain as the earth and lo-fi reggae rumbles below. 'Love This' is a fine final dub by Duke Supersonic.

Review: An eagerly awaited repress of DJ Shepdog's 2006 mashup of Damian Marley's 'Welcome To Jamrock' with Dead Prez's 'It's Bigger Than Hip Hop', effortlessly juxtaposing one of contemporary dancehall's most iconic vocals with undeniably one of the fattest basslines ever laid. This iconic pairing is flanked by ultra fun cut 'Sleng Hop' uniting the original Dead Prez acapella with another of the world's most famous basslines- Prince Jammy's Casiotone MT-40 'rock & roll' rhythm... You do the math!

On Side-1, 'Jamaican Champ' delivers a creative, dancefloor-ready burner with expertly crafted sampling that keeps the energy high from start to finish. Review: Having already delivered a multi-artist EP of Reggae Dynamite earlier in the year, nostalgia-fired producer Neil Anderson serves up a speedy sequel on his popular Original Gravity label. Toaster Melbourne Douglas kicks things off with the ska-flavoured cheeriness of 'Rudy Skanking on the Moon', before returning later in the EP with slowed-down, rocksteady style reggae fuzziness of 'Rude Boy Don't Fight'. Elsewhere, label regulars (sorry) the Regulators deliver a high-tempo, Hammond-heavy instrumental workout (the excellent 'Caymanas Park Rocket'), while King Deadly layers languid organ solos over a more dub-wise groove on EP standout 'Joshua a Mek Riddim Run'.

Review: The Original Gravity label is at it once again, combing through hidden pockets to serve up the finest nuggets from bygone days. The label is on a shuffling reggae tip this time around, with their latest single headed up by Lonnoya Drake singing a snappy version of the sentimental soul classic, 'Only You'. It's infectious dancefloor magic with heart to match its heat, setting up nicely for the heads-down get-down of 'Shake Up The Dance' by Woodfield Road All Stars. This sharp-shooting outfit lay down a killer instrumental with a nagging skank and some heavy-vibing organ lines sure to get the dance juiced up good and proper.
