Review: Alexis Georgopoulos and Jefre Cantu-Ledesma's Fragments Of A Season was one of the highlights of Emotional Response's output in 2017, centred around blissful, Balearic instrumentation that shone a spotlight on the considerable talents of these accomplished artists. Now the label is revisiting the material with a couple of finely selected versions, the first coming from Emotional regulars Woo, who dutifully inject "Marine" with their effervescent, otherworldly expressions and create a glistening masterpiece in the process. Felicia Atkinson then tackles "AA Cleo" and sends it out onto the horizon in a haze of reverb romanticism, muffled percussive rumbles and murmuring vocals.

The newly formed pair of Oliver Torr and LBD Sounds label owner Olin aka Torr & Rich slow things down for a dazzling 80s disco version to get you going.

Review: Future R&B from the planet Vancouver, after a selection of under-radar releases on King Deluxe and UNO, Evy Jane make their EP debut on Ninja Tune. Deep, dreamy and daring, each of these four tracks will instantly sooth and stimulate. From the light dubby flutters and Balearic references of "Worry Heart" to the slow motion, synth-submersion heartache of "Closer", the partnership of Evelyn Mason and Jeremiah Klein shows great promise and leaves you wanting more. Fans of anyone from WEEKND to Goldfrapp to The Knife to Kwamie Liv should pay serious attention.

Review: The peerless Versatile label revisit Etienne Jaumet's 2014 opus La Visite for this 12" of the same name which finds Low Jack, Dusseldorf crew Die Wilde Jagd and label founder Gilb'R all reworking tracks. First up is Die Wilde Jagd, a new production endeavour from Dusseldorf fixtures Sebastian Lee Philipp and Ralf Beck who call on the kraut spirits of the German city for a fine reimaginations of Jaumet's title track which sounds like Neu drenched in all manner of loving delay. Low Jack attacks the same track and his remix could not be more different, a thrilling soupy ride through the dub wasteland - such a talent this guy! Gilb'R ends the 12" on a more relaxing note with a wondrous ambient rendition of "Midnight Man".

Review: The latest missive from Sex Tags' eccentric Wania offshoot is a multi-artist affair, though as usual co-owner DJ Sotofett is in the thick of the action. On the A-side, the long-serving Norwegian producer offers up his interpretation of "Pohj", a killer cut from Finnish electro sorts Jesse. Sotofett's version is loose, dubby and loved-up, with the graf-loving DJ/producer re-casting the track into a meandering chunk of deep dancefloor hypnotism. While impressive and undoubtedly club-ready, we actually prefer the flipside ambient house bliss of Sotofett's latest hook-up with Freakout Cult artist LNS (AKA Laura Sparrow), "Soft Peak Mix". Built around sparkling, watery electronics and a relentless melody line that bobs and weaves throughout, it's a saucer-eyed chunk of horizontal brilliance.

Review: Downwards boss Regis surely does keep us on our toes still after all these years. After laying low for a while, he has got the label back in full swing after unleashing a monster EP by Simon Shreeve. This time he now presents new material by maverick producer and UK legend Justin Broderick under the JK Flesh moniker. The brooding grindcore dub of "Nothing Is Free" will be right up any Downwards loyalists alley, as will the snarling audio assault of "Kontorted" which slithers around walls of hiss, feedback and guttural low end brutalism. Surgeon's remix of "Nothing Is Free" blows the doors off in pretty spectacular fashion as always, exploiting the raw voltage of his famed modular setup brilliantly.

Review: When a Versatile artist is involved in something, somewhere, we hone in on it like a missile. Thankfully, Tigersushi boss Joakim has provided us with the usual dosage of gasoline for our listening engines and once again, the Frenchman has not disappointed us. Making his debut for his native Because Music, "On The Beach" sees the man in a slightly contemplative mood, delivering a pensive, vocoder-driven percussion workout - a true listening pleasure. CFCF inject a heftier dose of organic drumming to the equation, whilst Joakim's own Cray76 re-wiring opts for the all-out house flair, making this one a sure winner on the floor! But don't worry, Principles Of Geometry are there to rapidly re-form the track into a broken, totally wacked-out fusion of samples and eerie atmospherics. Dig in!

Review: Hemlock amusingly describes this latest batch of Joe greatness as "two highly spirited but deceptively strong sonic cocktails" yet even those familiar with the unassuming producer's previous work on Untold's label and Hessle will be knocked sideways. The title cut from Punters Step Out effortlessly demonstrates Joe's capacity for embracing and channelling weirdness is matched by few of his contemporaries; the track's defining drunken Hammond is warped to an insane degree and smelted to a ruff edged drum lick that will cause all manner of chaos down the dancehall. A B Side complement you say? Well yes there is "Club Scared" which seems to be an all too appropriate commentary on people ripping off the likes of Blawan et al. With this and the recent Hessle drop, Joe might just have shut down 2013.

Review: After their all-conquering album has begun its march into end of year lists, Planet Mu follow up on the success of South African band John Wizards with this single, which lifts the sun-soaked indie rock lilt of "Muizenberg" and offers it up for remixing purposes. Seiji steps up first with a fractured version that taps into the purple dubstep sound as a touchstone for the day-glo synths and grinding bass swells to work from, making for a dazzling slice of modern electronica. The 2 Bears instead opt for a slickly produced house effort that piles the crafty studio trickery on heavy for a dynamic and effervescent revision befitting of the original's summer baiting tones.
