Review: Berlin techno label Time Passages returns with fresh heat, with label owner Binh (Cabaret, Perlon) facilitating the unveiling of yet another new techno truncator from Hamburg's rising talent Difool, who in turn made his debut on the Ejeca owned progressive breaker Tusk Wax. This new one prefers analog beats and retrofuturist synthwork, be that on the flutingly detuned progressor 'Bleep 303', the mid-set mood mutator 'Dark Flow' or the dragging implied armageddon that is 'Moshpit'.

Review: Tal Fussman causes another fuss with his new LP for Time Passages. As always, the Tel Aviv producer sublimates genre borders and moves through them as though they were impalpable membranes, slipping easily between peak-time set centrepieces and green room solitudes. ‘Rather Be Numb’ opens on a rather repressive, positivist synopsis, and it’s only by the midpoint, with such tracks as ‘Falling Apart, Coming Together’ and ’Self Reflection’, that we really break into high-octane breaks-progressive feeling.

The Evocation Of The Sun EP
Cat: TP 25. Rel: 24 Jan 25

Techno
Constellations (6:44)
Oracle (6:55)
Waking Life (7:41)
Gothic Medicine (6:06)
Review: Retro 90s techno vibes with a futuristic edge, delivering a compelling mix of melody, rhythm and atmosphere. Side-1 opens with 'Constellations', a standout track that elevates vintage techno with a fresh, unique melody and futuristic flair. 'Oracle' follows, blending serious electro and techno elements with a commanding bassline and spacey soundscapes, making for a deep listening. On Side-2, 'Waking Life' continues the spacey techno journey with solid production and hypnotic rhythms that evoke a sense of cosmic exploration. Closing the release is 'Gothic Medicine', a trancey techno gem that balances sci-fi textures with vintage influences, creating a sound that feels both nostalgic and refreshingly modern. With strong production values and a cohesive vision, this release offers a dynamic take on techno and mixing it with many other forward thinking electronic dance music.

Review: Time Passages celebrates their ten years of existence with a stellar line up of artists; this is the full LP to complement a shorter EP. A fine lineup indeed! The mood on this one is decidedly hellish yet, of course, for that very reason, tempting to cop; this being the characteristic of the flagrant provenance of DJ and producer Binh, whose brand of sinister minimal techno and electro always turns up scorched, hardened into granite, by the embered airs of hardcore. The Berlin outfit welcome The Model and DJ Hell on the A1 side, with the first opening up his own private bacchanal into the hungry streets with 'Eat More House' - a motto we can really chew on - while Hell's 'Alienation' plays on similar themes, with a central acid riff and sniper clap pattern. Barnt and Bezier steer and slow the B-side to a canter, the latter especially on the low-slung, ominously new beat-inspired 'Roter Faden', while the likes of Z@p and DC Salas go on to encrust the ensuing sides with a haunted clog of synthpop and new wave judder-offs. We'll leave the rest to you.
