Review: Lana Del Ray's reputation as one of the best songwriters of her generation is already assured. Rather than rest on this laurels, though, she comes through with another mesmerically original work that takes the form of a collection of verse. Written with all the lyricism and eloquence you would expect of the American, Violet Bent Backwards Over the Grass is an at times vulnerable, at others intense, but always eclectic and honest, window into the artist's endless talents. There is also a hardback book version of these poems but when paired with raw and real acoustic guitar, they cannot bettered.

Review: American singer-songwriter Lana Del Rey does what she wants. Each new album is something of a curveball even for the hardcore fan - and that's the sign of a truly great artist. She's done pop, folk, spoken word poetry and plenty more in her already rich but comparatively short career. This time out on Did You Know That There's A Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd, her ninth full length, the six-time Grammy nominated artist again sets her own narrative. In the past, she has brought melancholy, baroque pop, sad core and more to the fore and always with real songcraft.

Review: Following her weekly Swamp Sessions on YouTube - in which the rapper demonstrated her biting bars against eye-catching, patinated visuals - came the third mixtape from Doechii, now released on vinyl. The album's name suggested unwound hurt, marked by the caiman power of a perfidious love interest, whose bite has indeed left its mark. Philosophical, penumbral yet still lively in spirit, the American artist spans a variety of hip-hop styles here, with 'Denial Is A River' serving her ex a "gotcha" in thickly laid bars and booming beats, and 'Nissan Altima' bringing further skeeting rhythms and autofire bars, which order her male competitors to bow down, as the claim is laid to the crown of new hip-hop Madonna.

Review: Los Angeles artist Billie Eilish returns with ten tracks co-written and produced with her brother FINNEAS, continuing their minimal, mood-driven approach but more compositionally fluid than before, often moving through multiple sections within a single track. 'Skinny' and 'Lunch' open the set with contrasting moods i one sparse and acoustic, the other punchier, built on layered vocal production and processed drums. 'Chihiro' stretches into loose, downtempo territory, its structure veering off-centre halfway through. Mid-album, 'Birds of a Feather' and 'Wildflower' settle into more melodic forms, carried by close-mic'd vocals and understated arrangements. 'The Greatest' and 'L'Amour De Ma Vie' are the most extended pieces here, moving from ballad to distortion-heavy breaks and fractured transitions. Toward the end, 'The Diner' and 'Bittersuite' continue that elliptical structure, leaning into abrupt shifts and tonal ambiguity. Closer 'Blue' pulls together fragments from earlier tracks, reinforcing the album's looped, circular logic. It's not a reinvention but a textural and structural refinement, delivered with precision and control.

Review: Eminem's new album, Guilty Conscience 2, marks a bold return to his Slim Shady persona with a fresh angle that deepens his thematic exploration. With album sales over 220 million records worldwide, including albums, singles, and other formats, it is hard to argue that Eminem isn't the voice of this generation in Hip-Hop. As he turns 50, Eminem revisits and critiques his notorious alter ego, presenting Slim Shady as a relic of toxic masculinity and outdated rage. The album's first half channels Shady's provocative style, while the latter part reflects a more mature and contemplative Eminem. The production strikes a balance between modern sensibilities and nostalgic nods to earlier works, offering some of the best beats and hooks Eminem's had in years. Guest features, including JID and Big Sean, complement his intense delivery, enhancing the album's impact. While the content remains provocative, it effectively engages with its themes, providing a nuanced critique of both Eminem's past and the current cultural landscape. Fans of his earlier work will find much to appreciate here, though it may not break new ground. Overall, Guilty Conscience 2 is a compelling chapter in Eminem's storied career.

Review: The new candidate for the nicest guy in rock, Sam Fender has built a reputation for writing about touching subjects. And his new album, produced by none other than The War On Drugs' Adam Granduciel, doubles down on that approach. The chamber rock ballad 'Remember My Name' is written from the perspective of his late grandad, nursing his grandmother, who was suffering with dementia. It's a real tear-jerker thanks to the ornamentation in the arrangement and Fender's soaring vocals. The title-track is a another stand-out here and much more upbeat - like light and day compared with the harrowing feel of 'Remember My Name'. You can hear Adam Granduciel's influence here and in some ways, it sounds like a sequel to The War On Drugs' 'Under The Pressure', which is no bad thing.

Review: I Love You So F***ing Much is the fourth studio album from English indie rock band Glass Animals. It comes almost four years after their epic 'Heat Waves' single rose to the top of the charts and was partly inspired by frontman Dave Bayley's experience of becoming a global sensation. Because that success came in the pandemic, the band were forced to miss the 2022 Grammys at which they had been nominated for Best New Artist cause they tested positive for COVID-19. The record is another surefire success that addresses the pitfalls of fame and will likely take the band to all new levels.

Review: Repeatedly mispronounced Los Angelean sister act Haim return with 'Something To Tell You', an upbeat and optimistic tale of making amends to a lost love, moving forward and letting go. The trio channel a Rumours-era Fleetwood Mac style of love song into a modern pop context that sounds as fresh as it does respectful to their influences. Furthermore, building on 2013's critically acclaimed 'Days Are Gone', their sophomore set proves that Haim's prowess as high calibre songwriters, vocalists and multi-instrumentalists continues to demand respect.

Review: In today's all-go culture, quitting is frowned upon. Ironically, the new 15-track rock-leaning album from Haim, produced by Danielle Haim and Rostam Batmanglij, hardly hears so much a scrap of towel thrown in. It follows a reconvening by the trio in early 2023, and a nudging hint via social media at an upcoming Jai Paul collab. Alana Haim described this record as "the closest (they) have ever gotten to how (they) wanted to sound," marking a notable shift from their previous work. Paul Thomas Anderson returns to shoot the album cover, continuing his creative partnership with the band after Alana starred in his most seventies teen drama Licorice Pizza.

Review: It looks like Damien Chazelle, the young, impressive director of Whiplash and the more recent La La Land, likes to surround himself with equally talented youngsters. For the latter film, he's chosen Justin Hurwitz to compose the score for his successful musical featuring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, and we have to say that this is a real keeper. There's a bit of everything in here, a little vintage pop, some classical elements here and there, but jazz is what's at the core of this original score, and that's why we think it's great. What's more, you can listen to Gosling and Stone sing on your turntables. Check it out.

Review: Since forming more than ten years ago, Inhaler have exceeded all expectations and proven they're among the very best indie rock outfits touring today. They have shaken the nepo baby tag (singer Elijah Hewson is Bono's son) and earned fans' understanding that they're at the forefront of the industry on merit. They have a huge following in their hometown Dublin, where they are set to headline a 20,000 capacity show, and are filling out top venues all over the globe. With this ambitious new album, their live shows look certain to hit new heights. Single 'Your House' is a highlight as it channels the rabble-rousing atmosphere of DFA records legends LCD Soundsystem in the verses, meanwhile stunning gospel harmonies provide spine-tingling backing to Hewson's singing. It's their third album and, perhaps driven by the desire to push themselves, it shows the band run the gamut of pop whilst keeping their indie rock DNA firmly intact - a sparkling addition to the Inhaler oeuvre.
