Deep House
Louie Balo - "Dont Shut Me Out"
Mikki Funk - "Lose My Mind"
Tuff Jam & Mike Sharon - "Thank You House Music"
Marc Cotterell - "Jus Dance" (featuring Karl The Voice)
Review: Having launched with a timely reissue of Trinidadian Deep's "Tree Of Life", Albuquerque's fledgling Plastik People label adopts a different tact for their second release with the first in a series of Various People split artist releases. The archival approach hasn't been abandoned completely however as leading proceedings is a Plastik edit of Louie Balo's hard to find mid '90s garage bumper "Don't Shut Me Out". Complementing this, Music Is Love graduate Mikki Funk continues to excel on "Lose My Mind" whose soul is derived from a similarly warm '90s climate as Louie Balo. Face down and Tuff Jam & Mike Sharon team up for the boompty delights of "Thankyou House Music" whilst underground legend Karl The Voice makes an appearance on final cut "Jus Dance" with his vocals the perfect accompaniment to Marc Cotterell's punchy arrangement.

Suarez - "One Last Bite"
J's Gruv's - "Wet & Warm"
Review: Chaise Longue aka "Slikk Tim" delivers a fantastic deep cut with early deep house sound reminiscence of early Guidance Recordings, beautiful keys, deep baseline and a live guitar. Bittersuite - straight up late night house music, deep and emotional pads with amazing keys, perfect track to complete the side Side B delivers a exceptional track by a secret artist - not much needs to be said, just check the track & your understand what its all about. J's Gruv's is new guy from the French department, his track is deep groovy late night grover, accompanied by soulful keys and old school baseline, quality track - "deep for the heads"

Kerri Chandler - "We Can"
Andre Wade & Company - "Bend Over" (Hula Club Mix)
Madagascar - "I Never Thought" (Homegrown dub)
Review: Over the last 12 months, New Mexico-based label Plastik People has put out a number of superb EPs featuring little known, and hard-to-find house jams. The latest edition in their Collections series continues on a similar theme, and opens with the undulating boogie bass, drifting chords and wild organ solos of Kerri Chandler's 1999 cut "We Can" (initially released on Black Vinyl, fact fans). On the flip you'll find the classic U.S garage/soulful house of Andre Wade & Company's brilliant "Bend Over" - all woozy chords, chunky beats and rich organ lines - and the New Jersey style garage bump of Madagascar's overlooked "I Never Thought (Homegrown Dub)".

S R - "Pressure" (7:03)
Review: The Plastik People label has been going along nicely for its first few releases, with label head Marc Cotterell stepping up and coming correct last time out. Now he calls upon various artists with Dave Charlesworth taking care of the a-side of Nice Ripe Cuts. He offers two super slick garage cuts that cannot fail to make their mark on the club and it's no different on the flipside except D Lux & Y No combine first for '25 Miles' and then S R offers the irresistible 'Pressure.' An essential 12" for anyone looking to bring some fresh garage flavours.

For Those We Love (feat Tears Of Velva)
Layla
Let Yourself Go
Review: With previous contributions to split releases on Plastik People on his collar, Marc Cotterell now steps up with Music is our mission, his full debut release for the label. Lead track "For those we love" gives shouts to the greats of house music past & present thanks to the presence of vocalist Tears of Velva - a previous collaborator with Kerri Chandler - and key player Slikk Tim who previously appeared on a Plastik People release from Playin' 4 The City. "Layla" takes on a more personal approach, dedicated to Cotterell's daughter, and this is echoed in the music where smooth strings and old school organs duel with the heavy drums and bassline. Finally "Let Yourself Go" is a deep, yet moody sax track featuring highly respected musician, Dave Mullen aka Mahoney, which incorporates tough drums, killer sax and old school house chords that build and build.

Soul Glow (6:41)
This Love Of Mine (7:19)
Get That Feelin' (8:07)
Review: Plastik People label head Marc Cotterell steps up to his own imprint here with a vibey EP featuring four cuts that fuse garage, house and jack. There are strong US vibes and throwback bassline sounds on the gorgeously smooth and bumping '8 Minutes Of Pleasure' which is defined by a funky sax. 'Soul Glow' has funky samples, rolling drums and some dazzling disco dust sparkled over it while 'This Love Of Mine' gets down to business with a chunky beat, neon pads and a diva vocal to get the hands in the air. Closer 'Get That Feelin' brings the party with more kicking house beats and elastic synths and bass.

Marc Cotterell - "Keep On"
Charles Caliber - "Moving On"
Doug Gomez - "Your Everything"
Mikki Funk - "Up & Down"
Review: After a short break in releases, Plastik People are back with the third installment of the Various People. We see label owner Marc Cotterell up first with his slice of 90's house music, incorperating slick grooves and catchy cut up vocals, along side mark on side A, a new addition to the Plastik People family from london, Charles Caliber, who graces the EP with a stunning soulful house groove called Moving On. On the flip side NYC artist Doug Gomez brings us a classic sounding, deep head nodding track which was originally releases on Frole records and we loved it so much that we decided it needed a vinyl releases, to round off the release, we are very pleased to have Mikki Funk back on Plastik People. he delivers us a splendid cut of UK garage, Mikki Funk has also previously released on RM Records and Music IS Love.

Marc Cotterell - "C's Groove" (7:16)
Danny J Lewis - "D's Groove" (6:23)
Review: Set your phasers to garage house, because Plastik People are back in action with true believer Marc Cotterell at the helm. The evergreen sound of big, bashy, bumping drums and sweet, soulful organ chords is as vital as ever in Cotterell's hands, and on 'C's Groove' he's flexing some especially funky wandering bass skills to get the party juiced up good and proper. On the flip another Plastik People regular Danny J Lewis is busy bringing a deeper kind of flavour with cool and deadly chord chops which nod to Mood II Swing, albeit with plenty more fizzy FX and sound design tweaks darting around the hard shuffle and MIDI sax parps.

Give Me Your Love (6:27)
Summer Heatwave (6:15)
Review: The Plastik People garage wagon keeps on rolling, and they've got that bump n' swing for days. Label head honcho Marc Cotterell is back at it with Danny Phillips, dropping four bombs geared towards exuberant explosions of joy on the floor, leading in with the utterly infectious 'Jersey Music'. 'It's What We Do' keeps the organ stabs tightly clipped and punchy as hell, while 'Give Me Your Love' gets into a Todd Edwards frame of mind chopping the samples around on 'Give Me Your Love'. 'Summer Heatwave' rounds things off beautifully to close the EP with a sweet and sentimental groover that wiggles in all the right places.

Review: You should know by now that Plastik People is the go-to spot for the most upfront garage house done in a classic style, and they're spelling it out good and proper with The Sound Of Garage House. Marc Cotterell leads the way with the jazzy vibes and deliciously liquid chords of "Those Days" before Ed The Spread brings a nagging shuffle and sharp string stabs to hard-stepping bumper "The Bauhaus Movement". Grant Nelson keeps things tuff with the natty piano hooks and diva slices of "Move Close" while Rocket Dubz ups the funk to 11 for hands in the air party starter "Dirty Bath".

Review: This week we have some new wax from Plastik People Recordings. The Albuquerque, New Mexico based operation presents the Locked In EP. On the A side you're in good hands with label head honcho Marc Cotterell who gives you two expressions in classic house music in the form of 'The Way You Hold Me' and the timeless 'Ease Your Mind' complete with swung beats and roaring diva vocals. They tapped legendary Sheffield producer Gavin Dista for a couple of previously unreleased exclusives on side B. Dista serves up a true zeitgeist of the mid '90s on the uplifting garage of 'Fantasy' followed by the absolutely euphoric vocal house anthem 'Funk House'.

J.J. Carn - "I Don’t Know Why" (dub mix) (5:26)
Review: REPRESS ALERT!: There's always a shot of dopamine that hits when Plastik People unveil another of their impeccably formed garage 12"s. Bringing that bumping New Jersey sound back as a source of pride and pleasure, they've got some seriously in demand cuts on here. Hoff's edit of Cultured Pearls' "Mother Earth" has long been an in demand jam tucked away on a double pack of major label remixes, but now its available in all its glory. Mark Nicholas O - "Deep Groove" (6:00)
Review: Hailing from New Mexico and on a mission to uphold the principles of soulful house music, Plastik People offer up another fine selection of operators who understand the legacy laid down by the pioneers of true deepness. DJ Aakmael has been doing his thing on labels like Uzuri and his own UnXpozd Entertainment for a long time, and he's on perfect form on "Deeprespectrak" (with a little assistance on the mic as well). Lars Behrenroth meanwhile brings a drum heavy pressure to the otherwise smooth "Infection", and Mark Nicholas O lays down a sharp and nagging garage beat laden with jazzy licks.

DJ Deller - "Nobody Does It Better" (5:42)
Heritage - "Dial Up" (4:27)
Review: Plastik People bring some more garage heat to their Ltd sublabel with the outstanding double hit of DJ Deller and Heritage. Deller is in control on the A side with the rolling breakstep funk of 'Nobody Does It Better', maximising on a soulful male vocal, killer hats and a Lately bassline to die for. On the flip, Heritage is a rougher affair that breaks the beat up and goes in hard on the wobbly subs, keeping things sparse and deadly for a surefire club weapon. It's a perfect foil to the upfront soul vibes of the A side, making this an incredibly useful record to pack for two vastly different reasons.

Who Knows (4x4 dub)
More Than Enough
Take You Higher
L.O.V.E. Dub
Review: This is the first outing for Herb Rhythm so no-one knows for sure what the sound of the 12" is going to be before the needle drops, but as it comes out on Plastik People you might well accurately guess that on-point garage house has something to do with it. Take your pick - all the tracks on this record brim with the funked up, swinging grooves of New Jersey with keys and plastic sax to match. "Who Knows (4x4 Dub)" is only a hairs breadth from UK garage, but it maintains that US deep house connection. "More Than Enough" is an uplifting piano house jam with vocals to match the sunburst keys, and then "Take You Higher" hits a peak of peppy club tackle to bust your best moves out to. Then "L.O.V.E. Dub" cools the EP out with a smooth, smoky instrumental jam as a perfect tonic to wash down all that garage heat.

Hi Times - "Journey Into Jazz" (5:14)
DB Selective - "Dub Train" (5:59)
Scott Garcia - "Music Takes You" (6:21)
Review: Albuquerque's premier deep house label does it once again with this on-point clutch of hard-funking jams from their extended family. Hi Times absolutely smash it on the A side with the buttery garage tones of "Journey Into Jazz", working up a mean piano hook and a hard swinging beat to devastating effect. DB Selective takes a more choppy approach without losing any of that shuffle, and then Scott Garcia brings the absolute toughest stuff on "Music Takes You" for those who want it deep and pumping. These are gold-plated party starters, guaranteed to shake down any dancefloor worth its salt.

Want You Back (Marc Cotterell mix)
Review: Hold tight for more absolutely essential garage fodder from the Plastik People camp. This sharp and snappy two-tracker kicks off with Highrise, aka Darlington-based producer Dinn Warde who's been making increasingly large splashes with his jungle productions as Dwarde and more recently his on-point garage productions. His mix of "Want You Back" is a tightly wound, bumping slice of 4x4 with cool and deadly organ stabs. By contrast, label boss Marc Cotterell brings a more outwardly soulful flavour to his original version, leaning on uplifting chord sequences and putting the vocal front and centre. Depending on the mood you're looking to set, this record has you covered in two distinct and supremely classy ways.

Shine Bright In The Night
Review: Albuquerque party crew Plastik People just can't get enough of that sweet, sweet garage house sound, and Industry Standard sure know how to lay down such honestly passionate jams in the spirit of messers Chandler et al. "Justify" is a nimble feel-good stepper with gorgeous Rhodes keys and plenty of Todd Edwards style vocal chops. "Shine Bright In The Night" is a tougher offering once the drums get rolling, but there's still space in the mix for more of that spiritually nourishing soul food. Tuff Vibes gets busy with a remix that revels in jazzy vibraphone keys for an altogether different but no less funky flavour of party track.

Show Some Love
Review: The Plastik People label is a great repository for deep house that is timeless but never tired. Katermurr is next up to prove that point with an EP that transcends the ages. It opens with a lovely throwback Chicago vocal over fresh modern drums. After 'Wanna Be With You' gets you going, 'Let's Dance' brings the party vibes with some busy lead melodies that will get hands in the air old school style. 'Donny' then keeps it deep with some languid grooves and a nice smoky soulful vocal drifting above. Last of all is the more bumping and dusty drums of 'Show Some Love' to close out a classic EP.

Herb Rhythm - "People!" (5:12)
Keepin’ Soul - "Scram!" (6:30)
Review: The purest garage label in operation right now, Plastik People fire off a crucial double A side here featuring two underground operators that know how to keep garage sounding fresh as a daisy. Herb Rhythm is up first, and he's got the Todd Edwards style of snappy micro sampling and MK's sassy midi sax down to a T - "People!" is a joyous, bouncing jam impossible to stay still to. On the flip, Keepin' Soul take things deeper with some sweet piano chords and a wandering bassline, but once again this is all about true school garage for the heads.

It's a pure and feel-good four tracker steeped in New York style that brings those magic 90s vibes to the dance floor. First up is the warm and bouncy '4 Real' (937 main mix) with its dumpy kicks and humid organic chords, then 'Psycho Times' ups the pace with a nice grinding bassline and heavy US garage vibes in the chuffing kicks while 'Dusty Sound' owes a debt to the one and only Kerri Chandler for its lush and jazzy musicality. Feel The Rhythm
Come On
Music
Review: Plastik People is, as ever, your most trusted source of funking, bumping garage house. This time they've unearthed a real treat in the shape of Danny J Lewis, a secret weapon of the UK garage scene who flirted with success in the mid to late 90s, reaching the heights of Locked On and XL. Reportedly the tracks on this 12" were originally released on a supremely rare double pack, and now they've been mastered and repressed for die hard heads to sink their teeth into. "Feel The Rhythm" has a dash of darkside rave drama tipped into its sauce, but it's still an utterly funky swinger with all the hallmarks of the 90s. "Come On" is a boisterous party starter, and "Music" takes things in more of a deep house direction.

Blues For You (Marc Cotterell rework) (7:50)
Review: Plastik People cast their gaze back to a garage house staple and give it a new lease of life on this cool and deadly white label. The original "Blues For You" by Logic is a pinnacle on the Strictly Rhythm catalogue - some might say untouchable - but Danny J Lewis and Marc Cotterell are here to tell you otherwise. Lewis lands on the A side with a version that keeps the structure of the track intact, and speaks those iconic hooks through a different set of instruments that gives the track a new lease of life. Cotterell meanwhile smooths the garage jerk of the original out into a more linear house thrust while working the vocal samples with glee - it's a respectful approach that simply repositions the groove of the original to give it a fresh flavour.

Review: US Garage is alive and well thanks to the sterling work of Plastik People, although in this case they've turned their attention to the South Eastern hemisphere and the impeccable work of Australian producer Meraki Soul. The vocal chops, swinging drums and cheery melodic flourishes on Scott Diaz's dub mixes of "Damn Sure" on the A side doff their cap to Todd Edwards with pride, and you can hear the Defected regular's studio prowess coming through at every angle of the mix. The original however is the one to dig into if you want a smoother ride, with Meraki Soul conjuring up the kind of warm, soul-inflected sound that could suit such a wide range of situations.

Things stride in bright and bold with "Mellow Mellow," which plays a dummy move with its trippy sound FX intro before ripping into a romping, sax-fuelled bumper courtesy of seasoned pro Sinan Mercenk. Review: Kiko Navarro has released on some pretty impressive labels - Nite Grooves, Third Ear and even King Street Sounds to name a few! which makes us very excited to have him as part of Plastik People.
Kiko delivers us some straight up dance floor house killers, first track, Bates Dance has infectious strings combined with moody drums & rhythms that are reminiscence of early Point G sounds that came out on Basic Recordings back in the day, Kiko then follows up with a groovy hip shaking track called Camon Yo! which will certainly move any floor.

Remixes come from Cotterell who's previously released under this moniker on Various People Vol.2, the remix keeps that old school garage vibe with deep shuffling drums and moody chords. The EP is rounded of from man of the hour and part of Rhythm Plate - Matt Rivem, he keeps lots of the original feel from Camon Yo! while given it a late night 5am Goshawk regurgitation.

Good Groove
Review: REPRESS ALERT: Back in the day, there was one artist that stood out in the underground, this person was admired and respected worldwide, his cuts we're played from Paris, London, NYC to Chicago & back again, he was - Olivier Portal AKA Playin'4 The City. This year, 2014 - Playin 4 The City is back, 3 brand new tracks released on the deeply respected US label - Plastik People. Side A delivers two soulful edged tracks with a reprise at the start of A1 which keeps the roots of P4TC from back in the day - both tracks include live bass by Slikk Tim. Side B "Good Groove" is a black & white track, It has the feel of the early Bouge & Shuffle track that came out on Olivier's Straight Up label, deep & groovy elements, 16 bit samples & keeping it four to the floor. Good Groove is sure to be a classic, one for the true heads & the P4TC collective.

Reelsoul - "Feel The Love"
C & M Productions - "Possible"
Cotterell - "Who You Are" (raw club mix)
Review: We are very proud to present our next release in the series "Various People". The first tracks comes from the very respected and highly in demand US artist "Reelsoul", Reelsoul delivers a classic underground vibe, raw beats and harsh organ stabs, one for the heads! Next up, True to our Plastik People tradition another track from the vaults! this time we see C & M Productions track "Possible", this track originally came out on the Lesson One EP back in 1997 ,which to this day is extremely rare and hard to find. Last up, Label boss Marc Cotterell delivers a new track under his "Cotterell" moniker, Striped down beats from that 95 era, Organ stabs, Old school vocals and a baseline that will destroy any dance floor. very much reminiscence of early KOT who he loves and respects very highly

Will You Wait For Me
Review: Plastik People call on West Country deep house veteran Andy Compton, who took a leaf through his box of DATs to dig out some previously unreleased jams from the vaults that should get all lovers of classic feel good jams popping with glee. "Sawfunk" is an infectious uptempo jam with a funky edge in the cheeky bassline coursing throughout. "Dark Disc" has a moodier flavour to it, with a bit of that US soul heat rubbed into its loins. "Will You Wait For Me" gets into a twitchy garage swing and holds it down for the duration, organ stabs, DX7 bass and all.

Stand By Me (original club mix)
Review: Dazzle Records was a short-lived sublabel of Outland that carried just two singles. One of them was Keith Sibley's Stand By Me, which captured the zeitgeist of mid 90s garage house perfectly. Now US label Plastik People has commissioned a raft of remixes to bring the soulful hooks of the original to a fresh audience. British producer Crackazat gets into a looped up, heads down groove while Plastik People boss Cotterell lays down some thick organ work on his 'Classic Vibe' mix. Johan S has a particularly bright and breezy approach with his own Chandler-inspired version, while Sibley's original makes an appearance in all its life-affirming glory.

Joe Olindo - "How I Knew" (6:00)
Lombard Street - "What's Wrong" (7:18)
Review: US garage doesn't get more bumping than this - of course it's Plastik People flying the flag for the evergreen sound where swing is king and a diva vocal is more than welcome. Soledrifter wastes no time in diving into the funky house mindset on this various artists 12", keeping things heady and tracky where it counts before Snazzy Trax brings in a cheeky twist on a bona fide garage classic, now called "The Experience." Joe Olindo shines bright with the sexy, sharply pointed "How I Knew," and then Lombard Street takes things smoother on closing track "What's Wrong."

Review: The Plastik People label keeps up its good momentum with another feel-good EP of classically inclined house music for cosy floors and emotional crowds. 'Keep Me Satisfied' is a superb opener with effortlessly cool and deep house grooves and sweet vocals from Reda. 'The Way I Live' gets even more steamy and deep with jazzy chords and another lung-busting vocal to really make sure the party kicks off. 'Passion Rhythms' features Janelle on the vocals and builds another sweaty but sensuous vibe and 'Can You Understand My Groove' is a clean, effective weapon to close.

Tree Of Life (Life Recorder remix)
Deep Thoughts (Bradford James remix)
Review: Originally released on Ron Trent's Future Vision, Trinidadian Deep's "Tree Of Life" finds itself reissued on the fledgling Plastik People Recordings, and its smooth blend of tropical percussion, laid back Motor City chords and soulful vocals still stands up today, even when put next to the brand new "Deep Thoughts", a less vocal number but one that succeeds in creating those deceptively complex moods and shimmering synth modulations Trinidadian Deep is so eminently capable of. On the flip, Life Recorder remixes "Tree Of Life", accentuating the original's dubbier qualities and upping the motorik drums, while Bradford James' rework of "Deep Thoughts" offers the most radical revision, providing a raw, late night version with all the vibrant house energy of the original.

Leave Me Cold (7:48)
Jazzy 99’ (7:12)
Rhythm Of The Vibe (6:18)
Review: Albuquerque's Plastik People continues to be the leading bastion for hard swinging garage house in the Deep South. This time label boss Marc Cotterell has linked up with Dominic Balchin as Tuff Vibes to bring the classically informed heat to the people who just can't get enough of that warm, soulful sound. "Leave Me Cold" does the absolute opposite of its title thanks to the oodles of piano, organ and more melodic flexing besides. "Jazzy '99" is a more accurate guide with its sassy sax licks and vibing chords, and then "Rhythm Of The Vibe" pushes the tempo up for a purely dancefloor minded workout.

Zed Bias - "Take You There"
F.A.Z.E 1 - "Wanna Touch Me"
Judas - "Play A Little Something"
Review: Albuquerque's finest outpost for purist garage house, Plastik People, continues to mine the classics on the seventh volume of its Collections sub label. First up is the unmistakable class of Zed Bias with "Take You There", a track which represents the garage legend getting into a more housed up frame of mind. Then it's over to F.A.Z.E 1 to keep the pressure up with the heated diva choppage of "Wanna Touch Me" before Judas' "Play A Little Something" takes things deeper but no less bumping. This is an essential package for anyone craving some under the radar gems from the history of 90s garage house.
