Parlay (Dub) (6:14)
Review: The Brooklyn-based producer and White Material Records affiliate Galcher Lustwerk re-emerges with a new imprint and four of his own deep, contorting house cuts with The Parlay EP. Fans of his "100% GALCHER" promo mix will immediatedly recognize the tracks on this release, which have been re-mixed and calibrated for club play. The hazy but hard hitting production and laid back vocals are all here, with a bonus dub version of the title track.

7th Heaven
Review: The sad passing of Frankie Knuckles earlier this year hit many people hard, not least fellow Chicago legend Ron Trent. The Prescription Records co-founder and all-round deep house legend has previously spoken about how he owes his career to the one-time Warehouse resident and here pays tribute to him in musical form. "7th Heaven" is as warm, loving and emotion-rich as you'd expect, with Trent layering his trademark keys, pads and melodies over a classic, Knuckles-style groove. It's the kind of wide-eyed loveliness that Knuckles himself would have been proud of making, and there's no greater tribute than that.

Dance (Louie Vega dance ritual mix) (11:26)
Dance (Louie Vega latin soul mix) (9:34)
Review: The 3 Winans Brothers project is made up of Bebe Winans and Daniel Weatherspoon, who appear here courtesy of Masters At Work legend Louie Vega...on his very own Vega imprint! Their "Dance" tune features The Clark Sisters on backing vocals and is herein remixed twice by Vega: the first is the "dance ritual mix", a soulful house cut with an r&b twist, while the "latin soul mix" focusses more heavily on the house beats and it's a more typical Vega tune which could feature in a typical Vega set, rotary mixer and all!

Believin' (5:30)
Jungle Pain (4:22)
Can't Shake It (4:48)
Review: Considering the success of Andres' first two EPs on La Vida, New For U and Second Time Around, it's surprising that it's taken nigh on three years for the ever-smiling Detroit producer to deliver this follow-up. Of course, those who lapped up those releases will love Believin'. The title track is something of a curiosity - a deliciously sweet and dusty deep house cut with an eccentric swing to the drum programming, finely chopped samples and more than a little nod to jazz. "Can't Shake It" finds Andres back on deep-but-bumping territory (the bassline, in particular, is superb), while "Jungle Pain" sees him layer twinkling electric pianos atop a typically undulating, rolling, snare-heavy jazz-house groove.

Review: REPRESS ALERT: Brawther and Alixkun present a collection of 15 underground Japanese house tracks from the early days of electronic dance music, back when the genre was sweeping across the globe. Ahead of a related documentary project titled 'HOUSE' in Japanese characters, the compilation is the first to showcase the works of Japanese house on an historical and global level, with classics and rare-as-a-hen's teeth tracks. Carefully selected by Brawther and his sidekick Ailxkun, this is a nectar of deep grooves and blissful melodies that form the blueprint of the Japanese House Sound. Legends like Soichi Terada, Yukihiro Fukutomi or The Ecstasy Boys are back to back with unsung hearoes like Takecha, Magic Ware or Katsumi Hidano. Aimed at the house music lover and overall music enthousiasts, this compilation is the one stop shop of all things early Japanese House, unveiling the mystery behind it all and shining a brand new light on it, dusted and remastered, for your listening pleasure.

Adam Rock Dissed!! (4:38)
Moths In Wallets (feat Mr Mensah) (5:07)
Backchat For Toprock (5:18)
Review: Dego and Kaidi on Sound Signature whut???? Here's a partnership that makes perfect sense! The West London legends bring their signature blend of soul and brukked up grit to Theo Parrish's label across three stellar cuts resulting in a 12" that will remain long in the box. Lead track "Adam Rock Dissed" sets the tone, gliding out of the grooves with impeccably placed drums snapping away loosely as Kaidi lets loose with his magical fingers on keys. Next up, "Moths In Wallets" rolls forward and fat on a lazy breakbeat with the vibe enhanced by the low bass rumble and rich, rich keys. This might be our favourite cut on the 12" though B-side production "Backchat for Toprock" runs it close. Live drums get ripped up hard, rocking to their own broken step as Dego and Kaidi slowly tease out some heart wrenching chords amidst a flurry of heavy piano. The masters are in session, pay attention!

Patrice Scott - "Journey To The Unknown"
Keith Worthy - "Cyclops"
Luke Hess - "Tolox"
Kai Alce - "Rockin K-Tel"
Review: REPRESS ALERT: For those turned on by the far-sighted, sci-fi inspired sounds of Detroit deep house and techno, this EP from Michael Zucker's Finale Underground imprint (an offshoot of his Finale Sessions label) should be an essential purchase. With the likes of Patrice Scott, Keith Worthy and Luke Hess involved, you'd expect the quality threshold to be high. It is, of course, resulting in a quartet of killer tracks. Hess' hypnotic techno jam "Tolox" is a definite highlight, though it pales in comparison to the analogue futurism of Keith Worthy's brilliant "Cyclops". Best of all, though, is Scott's "Journey Into The Unknown", which bobs, weaves, bubbles and spits to the rush-inducing deep house sound of undulating synthesizer melodies and classic, Transmat-style Motor City rhythms.

Moon Circuitry (6:40)
Escape On The Lodge Freeway (8:25)
Review: This year, Theo Parrish seems to be doing his best to breathe new life into the careers of broken beat-era producers and musicians. Having previously released an excellent EP from Dego and Kaidi Tatham on Sound Signature, his latest missive comes from one-time conscious hip-hop producer Ge ology and one-time go-to jazz keys-man Mark De Clive-Lowe. The latter's brilliant synthesizer and piano work is arguably the highlight of both tracks here. On the spacey, P-funk influenced space-house swing of "Moon Circuitry" he does his best impression of Herbie Hancock, while "Escape On The Lodge Freeway" boasts intricate jazz solos atop a slightly tougher, chunkier deep house groove. Both tracks are, of course, impeccable.

Burmstar (Twin mix) (7:23)
Burmstar (Flute mix) (6:40)
Review: By now, we've come accustomed to Vancouver's Mood Hut delivering the goods. Predictably, this latest missive - a second full-length from Aquarian Foundation member Layne 'Bluntman Deejay' Browne under his House of Doors alias - is another strong statement. While there are plenty of twittering, new age influenced melodies and warm, undulating grooves - see the Nu Groove style goodness of "Burmstar (Running Flutee Mix)" and the old skool urgency of the "Twin Mix" of the same track - there's a rhythmic boldness about "Starcave" that may take a few listeners by surprise. Of course, the label's usual sumptuous musicality is still present - this time represented by darting synth-sax lines and long, drawn-out chords - it's the low-end hustle and restless drum fills that make the greatest impression.

Friends (Detroit Swindle Friends On Acid remix) (7:48)
Beautiful (Krystal Klear remix) (7:17)
Review: There was something rather fitting about Seven Davis Jr appearing on Classic last year. Here, the two thrillingly eccentric, low-slung, Prince-influenced boompty house cuts that made up that 12" get the remix treatment. Detroit Swindle handle the A-side, turning "Friends" into the kind of acid-laced, Derrick Carter-influenced, bumpin' house monster that would once have appeared on Classic offshoot Music For Freaks. On the flip, Dubliner Krystal Klear continues his journey into the world of clap-happy, peak-time house, with a version of "Beautiful" whose power is derived from a colossal sub-bass line, fizzing synthensizer flourishes and some kicking drum machine percussion.

Review: A fifth edition of the Mosaic Split Series arrives, pairing up productions from Anne Errez and Clandestine, the production duo consisting of UK house/techno mainstays, Neville Watson and Justin 'Peace Division' Drake. Errez, of course, featured on the previous edition of this series and it's clear the Leeds-based artist has made an impression on Steve O'Sullivan with her tough stabs and dub flecked groove of "Discovery Inn" a perfect fit for Mosaic. Complementing this, the Clandestine project looks to be a most promising endeavour for Watson and Drake on the basis of their two searing contributions with the urgent machine funk flex of "Slave To The System" a proper highlight.

I Wanna Know
I Wanna Know (Extramental mix)
Review: By Alex "Omar" Smith's standards, "I Wanna Know" is something of a curveball. It sees him joining forces with vocalist James Garcia to lay down the sort of spine-tingling vocal house cut that would have once been associated with Chicago acts such as Fingers Inc. Admittedly, it contains plenty of far-sighted Detroit electronics and Smith's usual percussive shuffle, but there's a genuine retro-futurist feel that may take some of his fans by surprise. It's rather wonderful, all told, and sounds like a crossover anthem in waiting. Turn to the flipside and you'll find the Extramental Mix, a superb instrumental version that gives Smith's sublime melodies, vintage synths and sparkling electronics a chance to shine. Artwork of the year too!

Review: Ludovic Navarre aka St Germain requires no introduction, and the French house legend has literally seen and done it all ever since his first productions began to surface and influence other house artists back in the early 1990's golden era. The majority of his music has been released on F Communications, but his latest studio album drops on EMI's Parlophone sublabel. The self-titled St Germain is a proper LP, not a mere collection of house tracks put together helter-skelter. Inside, you'll hear many of Navarre's influences and inspirations, from Afro tribal melodies, to jazzy influences and even Middle-Eastern chimes. It's a house album in structure, but much more than that beneath the surface...as it always was from the legend of French dance music.

Review: Amsterdam's Detroit Swindle duo pair up and land back on Jimpster's Freerange imprint...and you know that means swinging, dusty house grooves for all! The title track "Figure Of Speech" is a pleasant, beautifully Detroitified house swayer featuring some heavy chord action, and "Victoria's Secret" adds a further layer of beat-swing around cheery melodies for the summer haze. It is a perfect blend between Chicago and New York House, with a big splash of Acid throughout the disc. The hypnotising percussion and grimy sounds take you to new, unforeseen places... Review: It's a total joy every time the Workshop label releases a new EP. After all, they've only released the likes of Kassem Mosse, Lowtec and Even Tuell, among others, in their fine catalogue. This time, however, they've decided to spice things up and put out four tunes by lesser known but rising talents in the house-techno-electronic sphere. The mysterious Willow drops "Feel Me", a hazy, heads-down house joint; London's digi star Tapes comes through with a rather epic jam that is "Somebody's Baby" - Hard Wax themselves have branded it as 'special' - "Villager" by The Horn is a downtempo drum machine flex with moody pads, and meandyou's Herron drops the "Lost Track", a winding, chuggy dub-house cut that'll go down a storm in Manchester's Soop Kitchen! Another winner, quality guaranteed.

Review: What a 12"! Given their stature, International Feel could probably pull in a DJ Harvey or a Theo Parrish to remix cuts from the Jose Padilla LP (maybe they will ooh!) but they've indulged their more esoteric urges here. Chicago house originator Ben Cenac comes through with a truly rare Dream 2 Science remix, turning "Lollipop" into a brisk, star gazing production rich in the musicality that characterised his (now) cult 1990 album. Complementing this are two fine remixes from Versatile's genius I:Cube with his marauding Balearic rave remix a real pearler of a production! International Feel include Padilla's OG version too!

This Loves The Same (6:23)
9828 (6:12)
I Gave You My (5:28)
Night Prescription (7:35)
Review: After a series of mesmerising (and massive) EPs under his more disco orientated YSE Saint Laur'ant moniker - Pressed for Time label head Ant Plate is back in his deep house mode with an EP of YSE goodness

No messing about with the opener 'This Loves the Same' - YSE goes straight in there with some dancefloor heat that has enough quirk to counteract the house swing.

'9 8 2 8' is all badboy garridge wonk with some excellent detuned chords and a catchy, nagging vocal refrain - SWAG.

On the flip, 'I gave you my' is proper deep house (as in it's actually deep) with some trademark YSE chords, blissed out vocal samples and great drum programming.

'Night Prescription' rounds things off with a homage to the classic US house sound. Think Chuggles 'I remember dance' but with an East midlands twist.

No idea what the EP title means, we think Ant's keyboard is faulty

Ghost Dub (6:50)
Review: The Adesse Versions project has previously given us superb re-edits, remixes and re-makes of tunes from Photek, Mikey Dread, Madonna and Vikter Duplaix. Here he once again mines the past, delivering dancefloor interpretations (available in Dub and vocal forms) of cuts from Japan and Massive Attack. The two versions of the former's tearjerker "Ghosts" stick to the feel of the original, turning them into moody, atmospheric, stretched out and dub-wise deep house cuts with serious dancefloor potential. "Sly" sounds like a speeded-up version of Trevor Jackson's Underdog remix with added house swing and delay-laden vocal cuts. It's actually rather good, and impeccably executed as always.

Kangaroo Ground
Ferntree Gully
Review: Over his last few releases, Australian producer Tornado Wallace has crafted a trademark sound that blends colourful, kaleidoscopic melodies with dreamy chords and an almost Balearic sense of glassy-eyed release. Interestingly, these aural trademarks are played down a little on this follow-up to his 2013 Beats In Space debut. Sure, they can be heard in the picturesque, luscious beauty of flipside "Ferntree Gully", but the title track is an altogether rougher concoction. "Kangaroo Ground" sees the Melbourne man successfully try his hand at acid house, layering twisted 303 lines and occasional cosmic chords over a clanking drum machine rhythm. It's a surprise, but a very impressive one.

Review: Some three years on from their last collaborative outing - the Wayne County Hill Cops (Part 2) 12" on FXHE - Detroit producers O.B Ignitt and Omar-S join forces for another trip into Motor City deep house territory. They wisely explore different moods and approaches throughout, starting with the fluid, dreamy hypnotism of "Seem Like You're All Ready" - an exercise in luscious loops and dusty drum machine grooves. There's a lovely early '90s bounce to the evocative synth bass, classic riffs and cut-up vocal snippets of "Follow Me", while closer "Hold The Line" owes much of its' instinctive power to a deliciously rubbery acid bassline and vintage US garage drums.

Review: With previous contributions to split releases on Plastik People on his collar, Marc Cotterell now steps up with Music is our mission, his full debut release for the label. Lead track "For those we love" gives shouts to the greats of house music past & present thanks to the presence of vocalist Tears of Velva - a previous collaborator with Kerri Chandler - and key player Slikk Tim who previously appeared on a Plastik People release from Playin' 4 The City. "Layla" takes on a more personal approach, dedicated to Cotterell's daughter, and this is echoed in the music where smooth strings and old school organs duel with the heavy drums and bassline. Necessary Illusions (8:45)

F/Ck The Hype (7:36)
Facing You (6:09)
Review: Following a string of hot releases from Leif, Jonno & Tommo, Rai Scott and Jordan, London-based label Ornate Music is reaching across the channel to Parisian producers and Flyance Records founders Ka One & St-Sene - who deliver four tracks of pitch-perfect, soul-searching 4/4 that align perfectly with the sonic philosophy of the label.

The EP comes to life with the energised insistence of "Necessary Illusions", which capitalises on a sprightly rhythm section balanced out by sweeping pads that help the track straddle the warm-up / peak-time divide with grace.
"404 Page Not Found" takes a more heads-down route into moody bass tones, snapping percussive hits and mysterious melodic swirls lingering in the far distance, making a haunting foil to the inviting tones of the opening track.

On the flip, "F/ck The Hype" channels the spirit of dub techno into a subtly funky confection, letting the aqueous chords bounce in their feedback echoes, neatly sidestepping the soporific qualities normally associated with the style.
"Facing You" meanwhile makes for the ideal EP closer with its submerged beats and elegant swathes of harmony, conjuring up a captivating melancholia in each lingering piano note and chiming bell.

With each track telling its own unique story, Ka One and St-Sene have crafted a rich and engrossing release that shows how much diversity there is to be enjoyed in the contemporary house and techno scene.

Review: After seriously impressing with output for Sound Signature, NDATL, Wild Oats, and Apron, Jay Daniel resurfaces with his own dedicated label Watusi High. With a title like School Dance, its little surprise that Daniel seems to be playing on his relative lack of years - the centre label also features a sketch of him as a youngster. There's little you could say is immature about A-side "Thank You Jay", though; a typically sparse affair built around dusty but bumpin' grooves, leisurely electronics and a brilliant synth bassline. "Anything With A Moonroof" is arguably even dustier, with freshly baked chords - ludicrously deep, even by his high standards - riding a jazz-flecked drum machine groove.

They've assembled an impressive cast-list of producers to join them in early morning sun worship, with Matthew Herbert's eccentric, melodious "Earthenware" the house equivalent of a 21st century pagan ritual fuelled by happy pills. There's a similarly overpowering blissfulness about the tactile deep house goodness of Chris Mitchell's tech-tinged "Parallel Symbiotic". 'Falling Into Nowhere' with its melancholic xylo drops and Twin Peaks infused pads takes us to a setting of descending sadness, while random peak leads and swinging hats on 'Abductions' and 'Essense', in contrast, contribute to a much more dancefloor-friendly and optimistic picture. Review: On the back of 2 well received releases on Dirt Crew & Detroit Swindle's Heist Recordings, Dutch native Nachtbraker drops a beauty on Hudd Traxx. Zachtjes kicks things off in fine melodical style with live drums, lush keys and a smooth sax lick for good measure. Borrowed Identity mixes things up on the remix tip with a more upbeat dubby tool which is likley to find it's way into the hands of DJ's like Derrick Carter & Prosumer. The title track 'You Is What You Aint' is a moody groover with slick keys and sleezy beats perfect for warm ups or end of the night vibes. Nachtbraker rounds off the EP nicely with Overstappen last, but by no means least. Review: Well, what can we say apart form the fact that we'd been waiting on this one for quite some time? Mister Saturday night casual and The Trilogy Tapes member Anthony Naples drops his debut LP on Four Tet's Text imprint, and if you weren't expecting that at first, well, neither were we when we heard about it! Moving away from his usual style of jerky, lo-fi house, Body Pill spews a significant air of ambient and the totally abstract. While we were expecting a straighter dancefloor kinda joint, Naples has gone for something a little more wide-eyed. Tracks like "Ris", "Changes" and "Pale" are totally beatless and the New York kid manages to create playful groove out literally out of thin air. It's not all soundscapes and, however, and cuts such as "Refugio" or "Miles" boast some of the dude's most complex club arrangements to date.
