Review: Tramp have done it again... A highly limited repress, this rarity is usually the sole preserve of megabuck collectors. Erstwhile songwriter to the Family Stone, Clarence didn't release much under his own name (preferring to use his Blowfly alias) but when he did, he did it in style. Riding with a tight horn and guitar-based lick, the resemblances between Reid and Brown are undeniable. Flip for the playful "Mr Hot Stuff" where sassy 60s street girls show us how to ogle properly. Props to Tramp for democratising this pristine moment of classic funk.

Ultra Vybe is one of the many superb soul labels to operate out of Japan. This time they turn their attention to the sounds of the 70s soul vocalist Clarence Reid. He had a slew of hits and two of them make it on to this 7". First is 'Rockin Chair' from his 1975 album It Keeps in Raining. It's mid tempo, warm and well swung with a louche vocal turn. ''Till I Get My Share' is a more direct cut with a passionate vocal and big horn stabs over prickly rhythms. It's one of his earlier singles from 1972 but still bangs in 2021.
