Funky Shit Edits Vol 5
Cat: FS05 DP. Rel: 25 Oct 21
Hussshhh!!! (2:27)
Time In Child (1:41)
Snoop On The Water (feat DJ N-Tone) (3:57)
Review:  Russia's Paul Sitter is in the driving seat for this latest missive from the Funky Shit Edits label. He comes through with a tribute to New York City native rappers on the hard hitting on 'Money Boovin'' and 'Arctigalactic.' Somehow, despite his many previous edits, this is Paul's first time on vinyl. They mark him out as one to watch this year and beyond. 'Hussshhh !!!' is a dense collage with tumbling drums and raw energy, 'Time In Child' gets more funky with some spaced out synth leads and sliding grooves while last of all DJ N-Tone features on 'Snoop On The Water,' a big, muscular beat packed with heat.

Nothing But A Heartache (3:09)
Nothing Gonna Change (His Way) (3:10)
Review: Paul Sitter's Funky Shit Edits series strides to a ninth release here with more of what it says on the tin. The a-side is a reworked 60s banger with new drums bringing extra heft and heat and a slightly different arrangement. It's a b-boy breaker that will pack the floor. Flip it over for something rather different on the B-side in the form of a more calming and pensive song originally from 70s but here with an all new arrangement. 'Nothing Gonna Change (His Way)' is a deep cut tune for those later get togethers.

Nothing But A Heartache (3:10)
Nothing Gonna Change (His Way) (3:08)
Review: Turntablist-turned-producer Paul Sitter is back once again with another of his tidy 7"s. This is another one that packs a real punch with a couple of hard hitting b-boy breaks packed with original soul and raw funk. 'Nothing But A Heartache' is the a-side with a Northern Soul vocal busting out of the mix, tambourines bring a sixties feel and the whole hitting nerve quits so is sure to get the floor rocking. On the flipside, 'Nothing Gonna Change (His Way)' is a little slower, the drums more leggy and the vibes a bit deeper for those more sensuous dances.

Galvanize (3:00)
Chewtacca (2:25)
Review: Strictly hush-hush bootleg remix action here, as Russian turntablist-turned-producer Paul Sitter delivers two more hand crafted gems based around vocals and samples from a wide variety of sonic sources. We're particularly enjoying A-side 'Galvanize', which adds Q-Tip's vocals from the Chemical Brothers tune of the same name to MPC tapped-out hip-hop beats and the horns, bass, guitars and organs from what sounds like an old psych-funk instrumental. He ups the tempo on 'Chewtacca', opting for a cheery, sample-heavy blend of boom-bap hip-hop and 1960s mod madness featuring snippets of the Ohio Express's 'Chewy Chewy' and a 2010 jam from rap duo Das Racist. It's very silly, but also very entertaining - the kind of thing guaranteed to put smiles on faces in the middle of a bleak midwinter.

Paul's Mood (3:37)
How You Feeling? (3:04)
Review: Russian turntable warrior Paul Sitter is back with another bout of cut-up grooves to give the nimble-fingered plenty to get busy with. This is all about bad-ass 45s to rock the party by pasting together all manner of iconic licks. 'Paul's Mood' is a midtempo strutter which revolves around the 'Funky Drummer' break and slips plenty more samples into every bar. 'How You Feeling?' pulls up a rave MC call-out you might well have heard from the likes of The Prodigy in the early days, although here the sample gets planted into some classic funk. Given the spectrum of sounds across each track, this 7" feels built for those who like to pick their favourite bits and juggle them to kingdom come.

Macaroni Westerns Edits

The Good, The Bad & The Come Down (3:57)
What's Happening With The Big Gundown (3:55)
Review: A unique idea for a hip-hop edits record now comes to fruition, thanks to the efforts of DJ and editor Paul Sitter. The idea of splicing up iconic hip-hop instrumentals and raps with elements of classic Western movie soundtracks is ingenious, not least since both 17th-19th Century frontier America and turn-of-the-millennium hip-hop are both Wild Wests in a sense. The proof is in the listening though, rather than the theory, and it's every bit as inspired as it promised to be.

Toxic Funk Vol 9
Cat: BBP 205. Rel: 02 Feb 23
Don't Touch Me (3:18)
Wake Up (3:11)
Review: Breakbeat Paradise's Toxic Funk series rolls out a ninth volume here with two more powerful cuts. These come from Paul Sitter and Crash Party who together cook up plenty of horn-lead action on 'Don't Touch Me.' It has old school bars and some retro synth work that all adds up to a full thrill funk banger. 'Wake Up' is another raw and raucous one with big rock guitars and slamming drums. A b-boy hip-hop vocal is paired with yelping female vocal samples and the crispy drums never let up. Two dynamite tracks for sure.

Money Boovin' (7" + sticker limited to 300 copies)
Cat: FS 04RMX. Rel: 04 Feb 21
Paul Sitter - "Money Boovin'" (3:46)
Tony Lavrutz - "Arctigalactic" (4:03)
Review: Russia's Paul Sitter is next up on the latest Funky Shit Edits and he serve sup a hard hitting tribute to New York rappers on 'Money Boovin'' and 'Arctigalactic'. This is the artists first venture on to wax and both of these prove he is surely one to watch in 2021. They are twisting, turning, full flavour sonic collages that take the forward looking beats of Beastie Boys into energetic new realms. 'Money Boovin' is all mad scratches and hard hitting bars and Tony Lavrutz's 'Arctigalactic' then brings some tripped out sci-fi sounds, mad melodies and rolling beats.

Review: Breakbeat Paradise indeed! British breakbeat producer Paul Sitter might as well stand in for Saint Peter at this rate, as we'll happily ascend to the place after death. This new LP, we imagine, is what plays in the background, as we float on upwards: with collaborations with some of the dopest MCs on the planet, such as Craig G, Andy Cooper, Birdapres, Chrome and Dr Syntax, the album is a celebration of the tidal forces of old skool hip-hop and breaks that later fed into one of the best dance genres to grace our ears over the last 40 years. Packed with exclusive vocal cut-ups, mix-disturbing scratches, and mega-raw b-breaks constructions, Hip-Hop Delivery is an incredible tribute to the era.
