Review: Loving On The Flip Side compiles overlooked ballads from the flip sides of funk 45s in the Now-Again and Truth and Soul vaults, all presented in the same format as the Soul Cal anthology. This collection showcases incredible music that pairs heavy funk with sweet soul to create a sound the label calls "sweet funk." The journey began nearly a decade ago with the discovery of the Darling Dears and Funky Heavy's unique two-sided single which sparked a search that led to their full inclusion in this anthology. The process unearthed other soulful gems and now culminates in an essential exploration of black American creativity and musical innovation.

Review: IRMA Records is now in its 37th year and paying resects to the impact of Black music remains central to its vision and output. In the 80s, the acid jazz movement revived soul jazz funk from the 70s, and this vibrant scene continues to thrive today and introduce new artists who take on the mantle. Since the 90s, IRMA has been home to acts on that tip like Jestofunk, Bossa Nostra, Gazzara and Man Sueto and this Mondo Groove collection showcases the diverse Italian scene as it is today. It blends Afrobeat, fusion and world music influences into a party-starting array.

Review: Bilbao's Soul4Real Records' subsidiary label celebrates its first compilation after delivering 14 singles in three years. The album kicks off with the rare 12" mix of Samuel Jonathan Johnson's wonderful 'You' and includes previously unreleased gems from Glenn Jones, Earth, Wind & Fire and Gladys Knight & The Pips. Highlights include Glenn's 'Share My Love' and Gladys's timeless 'How Deep Is Your Love' as well as EWF's 'Club Foot,' all of which were omitted from their original albums. Side two features Phyllis Hyman's 'Forever With You' and downtempo classics like Tyrone Davis's 'Never Stopped Loving You' and The Dells' 'Somebody's Gotta Move' round out an exceptional compilation.

Review: For Quentin Tarantino, music is as integral to his films as the visuals and dialogue. Fans can't imagine Reservoir Dogs without 'Stuck in the Middle with You' or Pulp Fiction without 'Misirlou' and now they can relive that magic as often as they want: The Tarantino Experience Reloaded celebrates his musical genius with remastered sound and stunning artwork. Tarantino explains his process saying, that "when I start a film, I go through my record collection to find the spirit of the movie," often discovering the perfect song for key moments. His soundtracks are just as exciting and groundbreaking as his films, creating unforgettable moments like Kill Bill's final showdown or Reservoir Dogs' torture scene. Many of them and more feature here.

Featuring gems like Jose Feliciano's 'California Dreamin',' Bobby Womack's 'Across 110th Street' and The Brothers Johnson's 'Strawberry Letter 23,' it celebrates Tarantino's unparalleled ability to pair music with storytelling. Songs from Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill: Vol. 1, Jackie Brown, Reservoir Dogs, Death Proof and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood all feature here on hello w and red vinyl and create a sonic tribute to one of cinema's greatest visionaries. With stunning artwork and remastered sound, this is a superb document of some of film's most famous musical moments.

Review: Asiko Tito is one of many lost gems of Nigerian music. It has been curated by Lagos' legendary Jazzhole and feature music first recorded in the late 90s. The 10-track compilation captures Afrobeat, Yoruba-funk, Afro-funk, highlife and spiritual jazz gems that reflect Lagos' rich musical tapestry. Each track blends traditional rhythms with modern influences which are the hallmarks of the city's vital scene. Jazzhole is a label led by Olakunle Tejuoso and his son and has been a cultural institution for over 30 years thanks to its championing of African and Afro-diasporic sounds. This is another welcome reissue that reminds us of Nigeria's enduring creativity.

Review: Hot Casa has always been a proverbial hot pot of international sounds from across several rhythmic and cultural worlds. The New Year starts off on a strong footing for the French crew with a new album from Afro funk collective Vandou Game. It finds them reaching outside their usual Togolese confines to take inspiration from across the Atlantic. The record was made in the legendary OTODI studio with Peter Solo on hand to add his expertise to a bunch of feel-good, horn-laced workouts that are laden with percussion, have endlessly catchy rhythms and plenty of soulful, authentic vocal charms.

Review: Osaka's acclaimed jazz-funk band Wa Yo Set are back with a highly anticipated third album. This release marks the arrival of another gem that captures the essence of the group's signature urban folk sound, or as they call it 'ADM, Acoustic Dance Music. Seamlessly blending influences from jazz, hip-hop and r&b, the record is a dynamic and multidimensional musical trip with an innovative crossover of styles that all push boundaries. There are wiggling instrumental funk workouts, fly moments of introspection like 'Tonight Is Boogie Back Nice Vocal' and much more besides.

Review: War's signature sound blends rock, funk and r&b and is best exemplified by hits like 'The Cisco Kid' and the iconic anthem 'Why Can't We Be Friends?' Each track showed the group have great versatility and enduring appeal across genres as well as a fine ability to write catchy hooks and lay down infectious grooves. This compilation is a tribute to War's legacy and one that showcases their unique ability to meld different musical styles into an array of unforgettable hits. It comes on a nice translucent red vinyl, too.

Review: The timeless power of gospel music will never wane and if you want proof, listen no further than this fine reissue of Together by Gloster Williams and The King James Version. Originally released in 1977 on Gospel Roots Records, this classic album is now available once more on vinyl through Regrooved Records. Led by Gloster Williams, the choir blends traditional gospel with elements of soul and r&b to create uplifting and inspiring music. The title track, 'Together' is a real gospel favourite that is celebrated for its message of unity. Remastered from the original recordings, this high-quality vinyl reissue preserves the authentic sound so it's a great one to have on the racks for when you need a hit of emotion.

Review: Zambian psych rock trailblazers Witch - formed in 1971 and led by Emmanuel Chanda - endured decades of dormancy but enjoyed a new lease of life over the past few years. This follow up to their 2023 reunion album, Zango, sees them continue their blossoming relationship with the Desert Daze festival's label arm and Partisan Records, which is the label that broke Fontaines D.C. A notable producer of the album is Finland's Jacco Gardner, who has dabbled in myriad projects including an impressive solo career and what he's been able to oversee here is remarkable. The rabble-rousing garage rock opener, 'Kamusale' sees fuzz-laden guitars intertwine with Chanda's raw, energetic command as a frontman and we are quickly cast into their spell. Another highlight is the eye opening 'Queenless King' where a kraut-funk bass groove sets off a free-spirited psychedelic tapestry, bursting with bright ideas and soulful charm.

Review: French label PBT is absolutely on fire right now with a series of massive reissues of long-time boogie, funk and soul grails that will have collectors in a spin. Next up is this hidden gem from Florida's boogie funk archives, Pixie Dust by Wreckin' Crew, which was originally released in 1983 and was once a US-only rarity. It's a bass-heavy, synth-laced prized find for collectors and DJs featuring Robert Rans (who was the co-writer of Freeze's classic 'AEIOU') and veteran producer Kent Washburn. It's brimming with tight grooves and crisp drum programming while smooth vocal harmonies flow throughout. Every track radiates pure 80s boogie energy, all crafted with precision and ready to dominate dancefloors.

Review: 'Sayonara Ha Syuppatsu No Kotoba' roughly translates as "Goodbye is the Word for Departure" and is a striking blend of Japanese indie and folk music. The album combines rich acoustic melodies with introspective lyrics to make for often poignant and nostalgic atmospheres with Yasuda's emotive voice at the heart of the sounds. The band's intricate instrumentation reveals more with each listen and the record explores themes of departure, self-reflection and the bittersweet nature of transitions. They might sound heavy but the delicate soundscapes also capture both moods of vulnerability and resilience which adds to the tender, affecting nature of the record.

Review: Three years after Ticket to Shangri-La, Young Gun Silver Fox return with a polished showcase of contemporary AOR and blue-eyed soul that could be a long-lost gem, but it isn't, it's all new. The duo of Andy Platts of Mama's Gun and multi-instrumentalist Shawn Lee really deliver here with achingly lush melodies, breezy harmonies and effortlessly smooth vocals that embody their signature mellow sound and tap into all the classics of this genre. From start to finish, Pleasure is steeped in warmth and nostalgia yet feels refreshingly modern and it's a must-have if you like soulful, feel-good pop and yacht rock. With a major European tour ahead, this duo continue to prove they're at the heart of today's AOR revival.

Review: Following the success of their standout single 'Feel The Rush,' Zaimie returns with Black Velvet, a lush new long player that blends jazz, funk, soul and global rhythms that all expand on the group's signature sound while remaining rooted in groove and emotion. Each track showcases Zaimie's refined musicianship and evolving songwriting, from silky basslines to soaring melodies on 'New Life' to more horn-led celebrations like 'Weekender Breeze' and sunny vocal charmers like 'Can't Do Without It'. Black Velvet feels timeless and contemporary and makes for a confident step forward for Zaimie, who are ever more polished and full of soul.
