Review: The on-point Burning Sounds is a treasure trove for proper dub and lovers rock delights from years gone by. They have been digging in the vaults again and come up with a new 12" which they have pressed on nice heavyweight wax, and the sounds more than deserve that. Hortense Ellis and General Roy's 'Give Thanks' is a crucial rhythm with lazy chords and guitars, DIY percussive sounds and deft little keys with a yearning vocal up top. Lawes Rockers is responsible for the flipside version and as you may expect it's dubbed out and reverb-heavy.

Review: Meanwhile can always be counted on to unfurl seductive machine soul from the farthest reaches of the techno plain, and so it goes on this new album from Grit. The chords undulating through "Drifting From The Bay" match the track title perfectly, while "Dead Faces From The Past" sinks beneath the surface to present a ghostly ambient piece populated by haunting dub techno chords. "Principle" is equally blown out, albeit locked to a more insistent loopy mantra, while "Expansed" sounds positively sprightly in comparison with its pronounced beats. Things get more experimental on the metallic churn of "Piagga", while "Pheonix" brings a more functional deep techno flavour to the record before the appropriately sleepy finishing move of "Immersion".

Review: DFA Records and Bokeh Versions have teamed up for a joint release here that offers up some mad reworking of "Guerilla Toss" by Greece-based producer Dimitris Papadatos, aka Jay Glass Dubs. Up first, the "Skull Dub" is a dark, echoing affair filled with dread and ominous drum rolls. The "String Dub" is much more fulsome, with vast caverns of bass, water droplets and spooky reverb expanding all around you before the TV Do Dub is a little more playful and airy, but still with a subtle sense of tension running through the muted harmonica and drifting vocal sounds. "Can I Get The Real Dub" closes out in fat bottomed fashion.

Review: Even before the demise of the legendary Leeds bleep techno duo LFO - the band that effectively launched Warp Records after crashing the Top 10 with their eponymous debut single - one half of them, Gerrard Kevin Varley, had become G Man. From the mid-90s onwards he was hella busy, with 45 releases overall including three albums. As such, he has a vast back catalogue ripe and ready for pillage for retrospectives and that's what we get here with a second From The Vaults collection. What it serves up is seven cuts of techno that are all largely deep and dubby but range from zoned-out rollers to more textural and edgy deep space fare. Review: Dutch dub house engineer Roger Gerressen released his superb Monoaware EP four years ago, and as part of Sushitech's 15 year celebrations it receives a much needed repress. The Irenic chief's distinct brand of hazy and hypnotic house of the understated kind is prevalent throughout the EP's six sublime tracks, all dialed into generous amounts of delay and long trails of reverb that add to its overall foggy aesthetic. The second track is definitely the more upbeat option to move the dancefloor with its funky and polyrhythmic groove, while the after hours option is undoubtedly the fourth track - a back room dub which gets deep enough to keep the heads down.

Review: The debut Ghost Dubs album emerges on The Bug's Pressure label as the artist, also known as Michael Fiedler and Jah Schulz, follows up two prior experimental dub LPs put out via his 'Dub Over Science' series, the title of which tells you all there is to know about his approach to music production. Dub was never an entirely empirical process: though the archetypal dubbing engineer was historically often deemed just that - an "engineer" - this terminology is ironic since intuition, or "vibesmanship", is also essential to the craft. Bringing twelve zygomatic arse-zappers to our left and right canals (and, in the bass region, to our bodies), Ghost Dubs homages the blueprint drafted by the infamous Chain Reaction label, whose pioneering works laid the ground for all low-reg, factoryscape experimental dub records to follow. Best of this bunch are the least rhythmically deadlocked, 'Soul Craft' standing out in its use of freeform shark-caged resonances, and 'True To Life' going steady but confidently on the triplets and alien gurgles.

Review: Joe Gibbs is a legendary dub producer and African Dub Chapter 1 is one of his most all-time classic albums alongside fellow production heavyweight Errol Thompson. The pair is better known together as The Mighty Two and while this first chapter of their dub collection is vital, it is no better than the ensuing two which you should also hunt down and purchase. This fully licensed issue sounds superb when cranked up loud, as it should be, and has suitable fat low ends and plenty of irresistible Jah vibes that will sink you in deep to the sofa or get you nodding along in no time.

Review: Legendary dub producer Joe Gibbs - who famously worked with fellow roots and reggae heavyweight Errol Thompson as The Mighty Two - joined forces with The Professionals for this, a fourth volume in his African Dub chapter series. It has now been remastered by VP after many years of arguing over who owns the rights and gets pressed up to this lush green slab of vinyl. All 1- dubs are as deadly as you can imagine with lefty low ends, absorbing rhythms and the spirit of Jah very much present and correct. A vital album for any self-respecting dub head.

Review: This genuinely organic album, Godtet, recorded live in Studios 301, Alexandria, Sydney in 2016 is repressed for the first time in six years on the La Sape label. It celebrates the meditative potency of the (just over or under) two-minute track that begins, like 'Arp' or 'Hahahhaha', as ambient exploratory rhythmical waves leading into sounds to come. Like 'Hekkaz' where Tully Ryan and Dominic Kirk's percussive poundings and slappings pleasurably alert the listener to the more luxurious melodic mixture of Andrew Bruce's keys with Godrigues' lamenting guitar, playing harmonious echoey expressive beats. Here, one of the many stand out tracks 'Ensueo' is only matched by the even more groovy and halting 'Comedy', bassline by Jan Bangma. Recorded and produced by Godriguez and Jack Prest who also mixed and mastered this conceptual adventure into the world of rhythm and reverb where John Martyn meets Alfa Mist, Godtet lovingly foregrounds each band member's singularity, culminating in the exceptional self-titled final piece. A must for those who love a late-night listening session over and over again.

With the label now seemingly a thing of the past, the prolific Lithuanian producer has decided to gather together all 19 tracks from those sought-after vinyl EPs on CD for the very first time. Those who have paid close attention to grad_u's career will know what to expect, namely an evocative mixture of deep, hypnotic techno epics, delay-laden dub techno workouts, spacey late night rollers, abstract dancefloor explorations and occasional surprise turns towards a bolder, warehouse-friendly style (see the formidably sweaty and sub-heavy "Holdback").

Review: The eleven-person roots reggae orchestra Guiding Star Orchestra present their latest LP in the form of Communion. All live, and with few overdubs and retakes, this is an instrumental dub reggae opus with a highly spatial yet no less jovial quality, and follows up the band's six-years-deferred prior LP Natural Heights from 2022. Living up to their name, the album marches forward religiously, like a noble pilgrimage's guiding light, in dub. Wordless, hard-hitting, submerged, jolly, muted.

Review: It's a bold, bold statement to claim that a record was "recorded across decades". We all know genius can take time, and geniuses can be easy to distract, but there's slow and then there's starting a project in one aeon and ending it in another. In truth, Jon Iverson Meets Prins Emanuel, Golden Ivy, Inre Kretsen Grupp is that, and then not that. A collaborative project that sees some incredible minds meeting in the middle while never actually meeting. Starting with Iverson's original 1980 American home studio recordings, Seance Centre's Brandon Hocura took unfinished sonic sketches from the master musician and set to inviting 21st Century practitioners to complete the work. Looking to Malmo, Emanuel Sundin (Prins Emanuel), Ivar Lantz (Golden Ivy) and Martin Blomberg (Inre Kretsen Grupp) were drafted for that duty, and the result is this slow burn album somewhere between atmospheric badlands and kosmische.

Review: Mille Plateaux and Raster hero Andreas Tilliander meets Fire! Orchestra's Goran Kajfes somewhere deep - and we mean DEEP - in the jazz cosmos. The farthest reaches of a universe far, far away, but one that still seems to understand how joyful vast can sound when pierced by the haunting yet strangely alluring sound of brass. But simply defining this as jazz misses a point, then throws us well beyond the pale. In Cmin would be nothing without the electronic tricks and gadgetry that first made us feel as though we'd space-walked off the edge of the known galaxy, out past the Milky Way's stardust. Echoes, tape delays, things that add mood and timbre without necessarily shouting their presence. There's magic at work here. And, contrary to the 21st Century's obsession with under-the-hood, not knowing the how is the reason why you want this.
