Review: NYC label Throne Of Blood pay tribute to Monty Luke's Black Catalogue by inviting the chieftain himself and label-mates the Carter Bros to curate the A-side of their latest 12", Throne Of Black Catalogue. The Carter's provide a tunnelling, and at times progressive "Jamaica Burning" (version 2)" to the label, while Luke supplies a fuzzy-keyed and snare popping burner with "Behaviour Detection" - which sounds like a well behaved Kyle Hall. Horn Wax's Pixelife then delivers two tracks to the B-side, with "5 Month Survey" fit for any jacking Ibiza dancefloor, while "The Doctor Is Out" stays in the jacking zone too, with its marching snares, there's an added and triumphant italo aspect.

Review: US Import. After over a year away, DJ OJI returns to wax. "Footsteps Of Phire" is a tough tribal house builder featuring a simple rolling rhythm, plenty of percussion from The Innercornerband (Oji, Esteban, Phire and Maye) and a one finger organ stab. Finally, about halfway through, Phire steps up to the mic to deliver some poetic spoken spiritual vocals backed by tribal chanting which rounds the track off nicely.

Review: As he waves goodbye to his most illustrious alias, Hessle Audio's David Kennedy is offered the chance to fully embrace another! Posited as forgotten hero of Chicago House - check the affiliated Twitter account for some amusing caps heavy rants - Maurice Donovan was first unleashed via a remix of Julio Bashmore earlier this year. He gets now centre stage on Hemlock offshoot SSSSS to fully indulge his love of the classic Chicago sound with two jams that naturally look forward as well as back. Donovan flexes his 808 skills on the stripped down tease of A Side "Babeh" with the ever present titular refrain cannoning around the subterranean beneath the satisfying rhythmic undulations. "Satisfied" is a looser, sexier joint characterised by breathy female vocals and a slightly deranged organ sample. Perhaps the best thing about this twelve however is the deliciously retro cover design!

Review: With their "Foundations" series, DJ Spinna and Kai Alce continue to explore the formative years of house music culture, offering up seven-inch singles showcasing classic and overlooked gems. This fourth volume in the series contains two more must-have tracks subtly re-edited to fit the format by the effervescent Alce. First up on side A is Dreamer G's vocal anthem "I Got The Feeling", a 1992 NYC house classic - and Timmy Regisford favourite - produced by none other than Kerri Chandler. On the flip Spinna and Alce take us back to 1988, offering up an early New Jersey house production from the "Backroom Boys" team of Cassio Ware, Derek A. Jenkins and Dwayne Richardson, who would later find fame as DJ Spen. A superb song that's as soulful as you'd expect, it's largely been overlooked for over three decades.

Proud Yorkshire label Hudd Traxx have been putting out a reliable stream of quality deep house since 2005, with artists like DJ Sneak, Rick Wade, Iron Curtis, Jay Bliss and Agnes just some of the many names to appear on the label. This 46th release features three debutants, while the fourth name, J.T. Donaldson, spearheads the release with a wishy-washy, bassline driven deep house vocal cut "Got Myself Together". Hudd Traxx provides Dusseldorf producer Maximiljan with his first physical release with the track "Son Of A" which merges the linear 909 house style of Norm Talley with smooth chords and cheeky vocals similar to the now defunct Swiss house duo Azuni. But most interesting for the label on this release, it's the two new names in Professional Gigolo and Tuneon that prove Hudd Traxx still know where to look when it comes to unearthing new and vibrant talent.

Review: Deep Down Slam's first 2014 release is a collaboration between London based producer Mikki Funk who already made a name to himself releasing on labels like Say Ahh & Music Is Love and should be already known to many of you and Berlin based producer Peer Du who makes his debut. Peer Du's Original mix of "So Close" featuring vocalist Marty Altmann is a deep warm vocal house number good for sunny days to come. Mikki Funk's remix of "So Close" comes more shuffled and has a great vibe with the uplifting drums and wicked bassline giving it the special UK garage house touch. Mikki Funk's "Take You There" is a beautiful downtempo number reminiscent of early house grooves. And finally "Master Groove" from Mikki Funk goes back in time and shows us his skills on the machines. Proper deep house vibes for da heads!

Review: Tabernacle have an enviable instinct for visionary talents in the well-ploughed field of purist machine-powered techno and house, and their various artist releases can be a goldmine for new names to add to your watch list. So it goes on this latest transmission, kicking off with the dusty Chicago house styles of Models Over 18 before switching stance drastically to the splayed out tonal investigations of Paradize. Bitch & Bites are equally subversive, shirking dancefloor demands to apply classic techno motifs to a fractured but ultimately inviting strain of hardware-honed techno. That leaves it to Bouhouz to round the EP off with a gentle murmur of synth patterns carefully composed for a spiritual, subliminal end result.

Review: Simon Meny and Pierre Rousseau have quickly become France's unofficial house dons, going from releasing oddball musings for Tim Sweeney's Beat In Space to now landing on the mighty Universal major! However, you can see why this has happened as "Le Bal Des Oublies" is a dense house ballad with a definite pop sensibility running through its core. Although the vocals are in French, the track has something instantly memorable about it, a soothing air of fun and spontaneity which France's house artists were just so damn good at in the early noughties. Check it, these guys are bound to step into the limelight soon!

Review: Having appeared only once before with the excellent Reel Nitty Gritty 12" on Echovolt, Paradise Box makes a return on Crimes Of The Future with a new set of crunchy leftfield club tracks infused with house, electro and disco sensibilities. "Hookup" is a cracked and mucky affair, but it kicks where it counts, but then "Running Up That Hill" comes along to impart a more emotive, clear-cut message via a cover of Kate Bush. "Ya Mo Be There" throws down a heavy wedge of 80s synth lines that refigures the James Ingram and Michael McDonald belter in a most unlikely of ways.

Review: Originally released in 1992, this almost-forgotten deep house curio from Nelson Roman is one of the few highly developed demonstrations of what the producer could do, with just a few other releases under his own name from the same era. Across the four tracks on this 12", simplicity is the key as was the way back then, and yet the mood that emanates from Roman's productions is a powerful and pervasive as any of Larry Heard's soul-tinged moments. Just check "Trance Dance" with its thinly veiled air of mystery and sweetness, or the slow piano and funky flute of "Hypnotic Flute" for a fine example of how deep house was done in the beginning.

Review: For this Kolour release we travel to Germany for a stop with up-and-coming house producers Rene Gawron and Ron Paris, aka Gawron Paris. When you think "Workaholic", one name that surely comes to mind is Chicago's very own Chris Grant. Chris enlists a solid, chuggy, and versatile remix that is ripe for any time of the night. Next up we double time it to the west coast for a proper remix turned in by none other than Scud Bloom. Scud laces us with a remix that impeccably walks the line between a deep and all out peak-hour tune. Altogether, "Workaholic Man" has the makings of an extremely well-rounded EP.

Review: Ape Into Jam man Jamie Paton has been rather quiet of late, with his last vinyl excursion appearing on Stuart "Chuggy" Leath's [Emotional] Especial label some two years back. This surprise return sees the former Cage & Aviary member deliver a pair of analogue-rich, new wave-influenced instrumental dubs for those who like their electronic music sparse and trippy. A-side "Telefutura" is a pitched-down treat; a spine-tingling fusion of chugging drum hits, heavy sub bass and gently bubbling synthesizer melodies. Flip for the dub-fuelled B-side "Blind Summit", where woozy, mid-range synthesizer melodies cluster around loose, jazz-fuelled drums and a fluid electronic bassline.
