Review: Riddim General is a much requested vocal tune from the Mungo's HI Fi album. It is one of the two singles that feature the irresistible sounds of Kiko Bun and finds him flexing his vocal cords as a microphone chanter. His toasting rides over a hypnotic minor-key rhythm that is dubby and fleshy and delightful. The propulsive groove when married with the autobiographical lyrics make for a sure fire party starting and sound system blasting gem. Flip it over for a fresh version, too.

Review: Glaswegian reggae soundsystem crew Mungo's Hi-Fi do an Osibisa on their brand new album Past & Present, aiming for both visual and sonic psychedelia while spanning a just-about-right ten tracks of Jamaica-endemic rub-a-dub reggae music, with cameos from the likes of Pupajim, Lady Ann, Hollie Cook, Kiko Bun, Prince Alla, Johnny Clarke and more. The album is the vocal companion piece to their 2021 dub album Antidote, and celebrates the return of verbal communication and love for the hypnotic nature of the subby dub bassline.

Review: Glasgow sound system reggae veterans Mungo's Hi-FI seem to have changed tack in recent times, choosing to compose albums with one vocalist in mind, rather than featuring an ever-changing roll call of guest toasters. Thus, their latest full-length features experienced MC YT, whose patois chat fits perfectly with the duo's varied, dub-wise riddims. Highlights are plentiful, from the jazz-tinged dub roller "Bumpercart", and heavyweight throbber "What You Got To Do", to the sparkling digital rhythms and sped-up chat of "Cokehead", and future sunshine anthem "At Dem". There's little here that fans of the Scottish outfit won't have heard before, but they do it better than most, making No Wata Down Ting another excellent addition to their discography.
