Step In To Our Life (5:29)
For Real (3:50)
Review: When it comes to offering up seven-inch singles of tracks taken from classic or sought-after albums, Dynamite Cuts has an impressive track record. They're at it again here, this time mining Roy Ayers and Wayne Henderson's 1978 jazz-funk/disco fusion masterpiece "Step Into Our Life". On the A-side you'll find the languid, loose and groovy title track, a memorable affair in which dueling vibraphone and trumpet solos make merry atop a head-nodding, toe-tapping jazz-funk groove. Flipside "For Real" is a little more energetic and loved-up, with touchy-feely vocals, husling slap-bass and sci-fi synths to the fore.

Junior Dell & D Lites - "East Of Hurghada" (3:59)
Woodfield Rd Allstars - "Lickle Fat Mattress" (3:10)
Review: Junior Dell & The D-Lites are one of reggae's most accomplished outfits and they have a vast arsenal of tunes to back that up. This one is one of many delightful dubs - and it now makes its way to us via Original Gravity. 'East Of Hurghada' has a noodling melodic lead and nice dusty drums with a more textured horn eventually taking the main stage. On the flip, Woodfield Rd Allstars step up with 'Lickle Fat Mattress' which is another blend of ska, reggae and dub with some natty keys.

Donnoya Drake - "Be My Baby" (2:58)
Woodfield Rd Allstars - "Mash Down De Bamboo Bed" (3:00)
Review: Donnoya Drake's rendition of 'Be My Baby' beautifully captures the essence of the classic by Ronnie Spectre and The Ronettes, infusing it with soulful vocals and a pop sensibility that pays homage to the original while adding her own flair. Her rendition is a classy interpretation that showcases her great singing skills. On the flip side, the Woodfield Rd Allstars deliver a ska classic with 'Mash Down De Bamboo Bed.' Released under the UK label run by Neil Anderson, known for his love of various music genres including soul, funk, blues, r&b, Latin and ska, this track exudes authenticity and skillful musicianship. Anderson's dedication to recreating the sound and vibe of the original era shines through, making it a standout release on his label.

Review: If you're reading this you will already be familiar with Jamaican rocksteady and reggae vocal trio The Heptones and their very many lovely tunes. This one with Woodfield Road All Stars is as smooth as they come. 'Love Has Got A Hold Of Me' has slow motion grooves and lazy drums with the most gently persuasive acoustic riffs next to soul drenched and warm vocals. On the flipside is 'Breezin' Up Brentford Road' which has some lovely hammond organ vibes and an evn more laid back swagger to it.

Junior Dell & The D Lites - "Can't Stop The Reggae" (4:05)
Woodfield Rd Allstars - "Dis Yah Master Blaster" (3:17)
Review: Contemporary reggae artist Junior Dell and his backing band the D-Lites do it just as their forbears did back in the 70s and 80s. Stalwarts of parent label Original Gravity and favourites of theirs, it comes as no surprise: Dell recharges the reggae genre with seemingly limitless battery power, asserting without compromise the Jamaican genre's unstoppability. Appeals to infinitude aside, it still would've certainly needed a heck of a lot of electrical power to fuel all those soundsystems. Even so, 'Can't Stop The Reggae' is a serene track, deploying a lovers' tinge whilst Dell peppers the sound with his suspended vocal lilts. Woodfield Rd Allstars go a little more experimental with things, electronically sequencing their vintage drums and bubbles to a highly miscible eight-note blessup.

Woodfield Rd Allstars - "Gimme Little" (version) (2:54)
Review: Reggae Dynamite Vol.6 explodes onto the scene with four irresistible tracks that capture the essence of early reggae. Max Iss & The Minions kick things off with the infectious title track, setting the tone for an EP filled with soulful rhythms and vibrant melodies. Donnoya Drake delivers a stellar rendition of the funk-soul classic 'Mr Big Stuff,' while reggae legend Dave Barker lends his smooth vocals to 'Gimme Little Sign,' adding his own twist to the soul nugget. The instrumental track, 'Gimme Little Version,' by Woodfield Rd Allstars, rounds out the EP with its lively organ-led groove. Produced by Neil Anderson, each song is expertly crafted, blending elements of reggae, funk, and soul to create an electrifying listening experience. Review: Originally out on the Practice What You Preach album from 1993, "The Plan" by German funkateers Poets of Rhythm has never been pressed up as a single, but has always remained much sought-after by the funk heads, and why wouldn't it be? It's got it all: a James Brown kind of sleaziness backed by a jump-up groove and a sliding set of organs. One Way - "Don't Fight The Feeling" (4:23)
Windjammer - "I Thought It Was You" (4:42)
Review: The classic 1982 funk anthem 'Don't Fight The Feeling' by American r&b and funk band One Way gets a fine 12" pressing here, which means it can be played nice and loud. Singer Al Hudson leads the way with his buttery vocal, while a stepping and broken rhythm with lovely dry claps and w sloppy synth squeal make for a pretty unique sound given when this was first recorded. On the flip side, Windjammer's 'I Thought It Was You' offers a more mellow, melodic contrast full of the band's signature blend of r&b and jazz with cooing, heart-melting vocals and a nice stepping rhythm that lovers of UK street soul will surely be drawn to.

An Extraordinary Dream (instrumental) (2:59)
Review: Long-lost Tidewater soul classic 'An Extraordinary Dream' gets a welcome reissue here by Symphonical with input from the last surviving band member Larry Gray. This timeless love song was recorded in 1969 at Charlie McClendon Studios and was the first of two singles by Gray and his group, The Soul Seekers, which was made up of five Huntington High alumni who helped shape the region's musical scene. Led by Gray who was fresh from five years at Stax Records with Otis Redding, the group backed numerous touring acts and this single was produced under Wilson Harrell's Check Productions. It's a lovably forlorn and low-slung soul sound with heavy-hearted melodies, horns and aching vocals.

Wearland Singers - "If You See Me Doing Wrong" (4:37)
The Chariettes Gospel Singers - "Nobody But Jesus" (3:01)
Review: There were tons of incredible gospel-soul and gospel-funk records made in the United States in the 1960s, '70s and '80s, though many were released in highly limited quantities for local consumption and can therefore be near impossible to find these days. Worry not, though, because Greg Belson is here to help via the forthcoming Divine Funk compilation and a series of seven-inch sampler singles. The latest opens with 'If You See Me Doing Wrong', a decidedly cosmic and low-slung cut from the Wearland Singers whose power partially stems from a mixture of energetic funk breaks and a reverb-drenched male lead vocal. It comes backed with The Chariettes Gospel Singers' 'Nobody But Jesus', a lolloping number that sits somewhere between gospel-soul and gospel-funk.

Let Me Do My Thing (Voodoocuts edit) (4:20)
Review: According to the South American music specialists at Matasuna Records, Ralph Weeks' 1971 single "Let Me Do My Thing" - recorded alongside backing Los Dinamicos Exciters - is arguably the most sought-after Panamanian soul record around. As this reissue proves, Weeks' original version is rubbery, heavy and rousing, with the singer's rasping lead vocal soaring above a weighty backing track that sounds like a breezier take on the New York boogaloo sound. On the flip, Voodoocuts tools it up for modern dancefloors, underpinning his club-ready edit with punchy new drums that give the cut more of a breakbeat style swing.

Review: The 11th in Del Gazeebo and Aldo Vanucci's much loved Soul Flip Edits series has been long delayed. Djar One is behind it - and thousands of other releases in the last year, it seems, with more to come, reportedly. The tunes here are high speed, hard hitting funk and breakbeat reworks with tempos well over 145 and 135bpm respectively. The a-side is Mary Wells' northern soul banger 'Can't You See You're Losing Me' remixed with extra bump and on the reverse is a re-souled Astors gem 'Uncle Willie Good Time.' These are as hard and fast as they are great.

Review: Taken from a trio of 45s from the Vong45 record label, here the West Loop collective remake some of their favourite soul, jazz and funk tracks. This release in the series has West Loop remaking the original foundation to the A Tribe Called Quest masterpiece 'Electric Relaxation' - 'Mystic Brew' as recorded by Blue Note keyboard player Ronnie Foster in 1972. Featuring all live instrumentation including some fierce Hammond organ vamps, a deep rich bassline and a vibrant electric piano solo, West Loop revitalise the jazziness of the original on 'Part 1' but move into a funkier direction with 'Part 2' on the flip. Perfect 45 territory for the funk and hip hop DJs.

Review: German purveyors of all things funky, Tramp, bring more good times here with a fabulous double-sider that blends deep funk and lowrider soul. It is a great bit of work by James West who opens up on the A-side with 'Hanging In', a twisted bit of sung-spoken lyrical weirdness worms its way through raw drums and expressive sax lines. Things get more smooth and seductive on the reverse with 'When Is She Coming' pairing more unusual vocal stylings with a horn aced and romantic deep soul groove. This will only be pressed once so don't hang about.

Review: Weston's curatorial crusade continues as he unearths more criminally overlooked/under-pressed rarities from the golden ages; "Losing You" comes from Courtial and Errol Knowles outstanding 1976 soul jazz album. The most straight up soul joint from the album, it's an instant sweat-fest with real guts behind both the vocals and instrumentation. Flip for the jazz funk whirlwind that is "Getting Down". Taken from their eponymous, once-super rare ($1500 per copy rare) album (also released in 76), it's an instrumental hurricane led by strings, horns and bombastically swung drums. Powerful. It was five years after that when he lay down this single - his only one, although it is said there are some lost tapes featuring a full album on them out there somewhere. We hope it is found as this is excellent - 'I Would Have To Be A Fool' is a super smooth soul with nice funky rhythms and a hint of disco energy. 'Just Give Love A Try' is a more slow and lavish groove with choral backing and fancy piano.

Review: Ralph White's early ventures into disco are finally gathered in one place with the first official anthology of his 1978 recordings at Sydney's Albert Studios. Better known at the time as a session player and producer in the city's studio scene, White was tapped by M7 to craft four disco pieces aimed at an emerging dance market. Over just two days in the studio and a small group of local players - including a young Tommy Emmanuel - he recorded four standout cuts, together which remain some of the most refined Oceanian disco ever put to tape. Though the original 12"s saw limited success domestically, M7's distribution push into markets like Canada, India and Argentina helped cultivate a quiet cult following. Now remastered and housed in a deluxe spot-UV sleeve with inserts featuring new liner notes and White's biography, this reissue shines overdue light on a forgotten chapter in Australian dance music.

I Just Learned To Live With It (6:01)
Review: The shadowy Wicked Disco crew have already turned heads with their floor-focused revisions of classic cuts, particularly August's garage-house re-dub of Whitney Houston's cover of 'I'm Every Woman'. Each 12" so far has been limited to just 100 copies - an insanely low number given their quality - and this missive is no exception. On 'I've Just Learned To Live With It', the crew gives its take on a dewy-eyed, orchestrated soul classic from the 1970s (we think), lightly dubbing it out and extending it to dancefloor length (six minutes) while retaining all or the original's sublime lead and harmony vocals. It's something that will not only work in both soul and disco clubs, but also as a "send 'em home happy" end of night tune.

Review: Wicked Disco demonstrate that they really have gotten no rest, sharing a new remix-remix of Whitney Houston’s version of Chaka Khan’s ‘I’m Every Woman’. While the original disco numbers, both in Khan and Houston’s incarnations, are much smoother-edged and naturalistic, Wicked Disco bring a choppier and more staccato garage house beat to the table, lending tasteful pepperings of dub delay and bass-boosting to a mix that we didn’t know needed it. A touch of generalised femininity is thus lent to the quintessential disco dancefloor, adding much extra umami to this already felicitous freakout.

Only laying down a handful of 45s during her career, Lynn Williams wasn't particularly prolific but what she did release has since become highly collectable with both of these sides fetching heavy triple figures over the years. "It Takes Two" is a sultry hip-strutting deep funk jam with a sleaze hanging off the groove while "Don't Be Surprised" is a much darker, barbed soul affair. A string-surged ballad, entrenched in authentic emotion; it's the female equivalent of Isaac Hayes's "I Can't Go To Sleep".

Review: Yet another Studio One classic. Willie Williams was one of many artists to feature on Soul Jazz's 'Studio One Soul' series, which documented the throughline between reggae and soul in Jamaica. 'No One Can Stop Us Now' is a dreamy and wall-of-soundy slice of goodness from the mournful crooner, documenting the Jamaican dub vocalist's master plan. Review: For those who don't keep a close eye on the international funk rework scene, Senior Citizens are one of the most prolific and well-regarded remix duos in Greece. Here they make their first appearance on Soul Flip with two club-ready revisions that sound like peak-time anthems in waiting. They begin by giving their interpretation of Al Wilson classic 'The Snake', adding his vocals and much of the original instrumentation (trademark horns included) to a beefed-up, non-stop club groove. They offer us a breather of sorts on side B, attractively shuffling their way through a breakbeat-powered, string-laden re-edit of Bobby Hebb's luscious soul number 'You Don't Know What You've Got Until You Lose It'.

Do Better (4:00)
Do Better (Monolog reprise) (4:35)
Review: Insatiable funk lovers rejoice! One of the most sought after top vocalist/songwriter Lee Wilson who's known to dominate house music dance charts week after week delivers this time a boogie banger 'Do Better'. The feel-good Original Mix on the A-side boasts a thick boogie synth bassline and uplieing chords that carry Lee's captivating vocals inspiring us with a strong message of positive self-image and self-improvement. The B-side features the monolog remix by multi-instrumentalist Yuki Kanesaka playing all vintage analogue instruments himself bringing that heavy funk to all diggers of sick grooves. Both tracks are upbeat, uptempo and ready to heat the floor.
