Review: Ennio Morricone's score for Il Gatto is a standout in his work for Italian Giallo films. Though the story got mixed reviews, Argento's direction and Morricone's music elevate the film with its tension-building, subconscious fear-stoking and gorgeous cinematography. The score is marked by a jazz-influenced bass guitar and a five-note motif, expanded upon with diverse instruments like strings, high-pitched organs, eerie woodwinds and ghostly voices. While repetitive textural ideas form the score's heartbeat, subtle musical accents keep it intriguing. This score masterfully enhances the film's nightmarish atmosphere. The track 'Mariangela E La Seduzione)' offers a rare semi-sweet melody, while the track 'Quartetto Tiberini' adds depth to the overall experience. Morricone's terrifying, hallucinatory score for Il Gatto is among his finest work.

Review: Morricone aficonadi will be champing at their costume jewellery for this one. Scored for the Sergio Martino film Ruba Al Prossimo Tuo (1976), Morricone provided a hauntingly atmospheric soundtrack, marking the flick out from the rest in the Italian Giallo wave, and its usually otherwise funk-backed, upbeat exploitation emotes. The film follows a chilling, traitorous femme-noir formula, as a young woman, Giulia, is put through a seedy ringer after witnessing a brutal murder. As Edda Dell'Orso sings above Morricone's samba arrangements, the record is notable for its renderings of classic Latin style in much broodier, more dubious tones.

Review: This exclusive Record Store Day Limited Edition of Ennio Morricone's score to The Blue-eyed Bandit has been restored and remastered from the original tapes, preserved in the historical CAM Sugar archives. It is the first time the soundtrack has been released on vinyl since its original release in 1982, and quite possibly the only chance to listen to the genius of Morricone engaging with the world of jazz. He was famously suspicious of jazz improvisation, yet let his musicians be free in this setting, allowing them to add their solos to the original structure. The band featured his friend and collaborator Enrico Pieranunzi on piano, drummer Roberto Gatto and double bassist Riccardo Del Fra.

Infamous for its embittered story about a young man seeking to take revenge on the financial industry after the loss of his father's fortune, the film is noted for its soundtrack by famous composer Ennio Morricone, one of the most influential and acclaimed film composers of all time. The soundtrack features Morricone's trademark style of atmospheric and suspenseful music, using strings, piano, percussion and synthesizers to create varying moods of dirty-monied tension. Review: To commemorate the 60th anniversary of the film and its soundtrack, Beat Records proudly presents a deluxe CD reissue of Ennio Morricone's legendary score for the 1964 Western A Fistful of Dollars, directed by Sergio Leone and starring Clint Eastwood, Marianne Koch, Gian Maria Volonte, and others. This co-production between Italy, Spain, and Germany features music that has achieved global acclaim and needs no introduction. For this reissue, stereo tracks selected by Morricone in 1965, combined with other stereo pieces from For a Few Dollars More originally released on RCA vinyl, are included alongside bonus tracks sourced from the mono master tapes of the original sessions have been approved by Maestro Morricone for the first expanded reissue on CD in 2006. The packaging includes a cardboard tunnel with artwork by Renato Casaro, four collector's postcards, and a 24-page color booklet. Mastering was handled by Claudio Fuiano, with graphic design and liner notes by Daniele De Gemini. This version is the most complete version of this legendary soundtrack.

Review: Space disco might be a recognisable or at least widely acceptable genre term, but its long lost twin 'space jazz' is on the sidelines, relegated to nicher corners of musical history. Thankfully, its memory has been conserved thanks to the late great composer Ennio Morricone occupying one of those corners. 'Space: 1999' was British TV's answer to Kubrick - concerning a fictional account of what would happen if the moon were knocked out of orbit - and Morricone's soundtrack for the Italian theatrical version here forms a veritable part the Italian OST canon. Incredible cacophonous clang-jazz, modular workouts and tom-heavy unidentified flying drums make up this fast but lonesome paean for the cosmos.
