Review: From his former base in Kansas City, Huerco S has navigated a path into the collective affections of us here at Juno HQ via a series of superb 12" emissions for Wicked Bass, Opal Tapes, Proibito and Future Times which have demonstrated this young producer to be a master of gauzy, lopsided, recycled house. A mark of the producer's rising status is made with his debut album, Colonial Patterns, for Daniel Lopatin's Software label which reveals itself to be an ambitious collection; Huerco S's lo fi production touch is very much evident here but he rarely seems concerned with outright house tools, instead looking to draw you into an introspective otherworld. "Plucked From The Ground, Towards The Sun" and "Ragtime USA" are immediate highlights but this is an album whose inner beauty reveals itself over repeat listen. Contender for LP of 2013!

Review: Hinted at it in transmissions from Blackest Ever Black for some time now, the chance to grasp the debut album from Tropic Of Cancer will be greeted greedily by the group's fans. Those intoxicated by Tropic Of Cancer releases thus far for Downwards, Mannequin and Blackest Ever Black will not be disappointed one iota by Restless Idylls, an eight track album recorded solely by Lobo in LA and subsequently graced with production work from Regis. Indeed it's the Downwards boss who teases extra emotive levels out of TOC gems such as "Children Of A Lesser God" whose central synth motif takes on whole new consuming levels of psychedelia here in comparison to the version that originally featured on last year's EP I Feel Nothing. Its factors such as this that lend the album a shining clarity that separates Restless Idylls from previous Tropic Of Cancer releases and ensures its an album likely to feature in those end of year lists.

Review: ** Repress on clear vinyl ** Hospital Productions have been around for a hell of a long time, with releases dating back to 1998. For the last fifteen years they've progressed impressively and have grown by expanding their catalogue as far as black metal. Silent Servant, one half of the now defunct Sandwell District label, makes his comeback for the American label with sheer elegance and emotion. Negative Fascination is a true LP, with all the productions representing an entity rather than a collection of dancefloor tools. Tracks such as "Invocation Of Lust", which sway effortlessly across desolate plains of synths and distant melodies, fall neatly into place with others; "Moral Divide (Endless)" being its natural epilogue as ghostly sounds and transmuted effects are caught in a whirlpool of rough, analogue beats. Only certain parts such as "The Strange Attractor" could be bracketed as belonging to the techno realm, with most other tracks containing much more than just club antics. "Temptation & Desire" could only be considered techno in so far as its dark approach, but it's the ingenious sound arrangements that fall between their spaces which make this album a true gem. Highly recommended.

A Plutonian Love Affair (9th Planet remix)
Tache Floue De L'amour De Folie Interminable
Review: If you need any proof that Jamal Moss is currently at his busiest then check this weeks release schedules and you'll find this is the third 12" blessed with the unique touch of the Mathematics boss man. This record for the fledgling Norwegian label Modelhart features cuts from the slightly daunting Moss archives under his universally recognisable alias Hieroglyphic Being; the A Side sees the uncredited 9th Planet (another Moss alias?) tackle "A Plutonian Love Affair" which originally featured on 2010's The Sun Man Speaks, one of the countless CDrs Moss releases with little prior notice. 9th Planet's rework extends the track and the fractured, warbling chimes and organs shimmer with a beautiful sense of incandescence. "Tache Floue De L'Amour Folie Interminable" occupies the B Side, lifted from Moss's Welcome 2 The Beating Hearts Social Club CDr of last year and leaves a haunted feeling on the listener with thrusting percussion reminiscent of Squarepusher's "Red Hot Car" swamped in a land of static.

Review: Kill The DJ improve Franco-Italian relations by inviting Margot Records founders Margot into the fold with the Magico Disco EP, with Ivan Smagghe having been introduced to the pair's "epic trance cheese-athon" of the title track via a James Holden DJ set. Daniel Valanti and Stefano Serafini have an individual and collective production vintage that shines through on this EP; Smagghe's aforementioned description of "Magico Disco" is pretty spot on as the track unfurls like an acid house update of Pat Cowley's iconic Donna Summer remix. Complemented naturally by some camp Teutonic titular vocal hooks! I'm A Cliche's Tel Aviv connect Red Axes add their own Italo flair on a fine accompanying remix and Margot's subsequent four productions rifle through the sort of dirgey wave sounds one expects of a Kill The DJ release.

Review: Minimal Wave's Cititrax imprint has had one of its most prolific years to date in 2013, with the release of excellent albums from Streetwalker and The KVB, and a KVB remix EP featuring the likes of Regis, Silent Servant and Shifted. The Veronica Vasicka-helmed label looks to expand on that success with a number of forthcoming releases planned over the next few months commencing with the debut EP of Facit, whose Mat At Duvorna EP is described by the label as "quintessential melancholic Swedish wave at its finest." Comprised of Joakim Karlsson and Mai Nestor on vocals, the Gothenburg native Karlsson has previous form as Jocke & Elliot, under which name he released an electro-inspired 12-inch on Swedish label Kust Musik in 2010. this new project seems to be more downtempo in nature, with a sound that most resembles a modern day version of French synthwave duo Deux, making them perfect for the stable of labels run by Vasicka.

20 Electrostatic Soundfields (DVD)
Review: Since pitching up on Soma back in 2011, Rod Modell's Deepchord work has slowly shifted focus, moving from dub-soaked techno hypnotism to experimental ambience via cinematic electronica. At the same time, the Detroit producer has devoted more energy to audiovisual projects, delivering live shows that mix musical drones, pops and crackles with similarly distorted, hallucinogenic visuals. 20 Electrostatic Soundfields, his third full-length for Soma, is seemingly a culmination of this trend. Presented as both an audio CD and DVD - with accompanying visuals - it consists entirely of atmospheric ambience built around drones, heady chords and manipulated white noise. Adventurous and intoxicating, it's one of his deepest sets to date.

Review: More commonly known as Meschi, Scottish producer Paul Mitchell returns to the excellent Tabernacle label with the synth driven Dichotomy Pt.1. Since debuting on Tabernacle with the fantastic 2012 EP An Expedition, Mitchell has launched his own ambient cassette label, Elephant Recordings, which in less than a year already stands at nine releases and his experimental side is explored further on this four track 12". Allegedly the first in a series of releases on Tabernacle from Mitchell, Dichotomy Pt.1 demonstrates the producer is more than capable of turning out mind-expanding free flowing soundscapes of lush of atmospheres and contrasting moods. Expect submerged industrialisms and bubbling menaces reminiscent of Yves De May and 80s-styled dance arpeggios blended with softer, cosmic synths. Wonderful stuff!

Review: German ambient label Air Texture has an interesting business model. The imprint's only releases are sporadic, two-disc compilations. Even then, they get other people to do half the work, selecting a new pair of curators each time. For this third edition in the series, Deadbeat Music and DJ Olive are at the controls. Somewhat predictably, it's another excellent selection of woozy soundscapes, twinkling ambience and occasional unnerving experimentalism. Moments of great beauty - Hrdvsion's "The No Face", Jim O'Rourke's sparse but atmospheric "Low Bow" - nestle side by side with crusty, unusual, droning concoctions (see sometime Orb member Thomas Fehlmann's "Embrace" and Jacapo Carreras' "Violinic Drumming"). It's a formula that ensures intriguing, otherworldly listening.

Review: Invada's infatuation with College first began with "A Real Hero," the Paris based producer's contribution to the Drive OST and has now grown into full born love. Having already reissued an album and an EP from the producer and Valerie label head, Invada now present a sumptuous physical release of the French producer's third LP Heritage which was released last month digitally through College's own label. If you know College's material you'll already be on top of this. And if you don't then we suggest you sample the shivering, atmospheric delights of "Frontiere" or the Vangelis-like drama of "Piege" and you'll understand why College needs your attention. While most electro bandits are still pressing the bass buttons, this French artist is reminding us of the more subtle, delicate heritage of the genre. Back to class!

Sorrow (Invisible remix)
All I Want (Ewan Pearson vocal mix)
Synchronised (Craig Bratley remix)
Review: The new project of Cherry Ghost's Simon Aldred, Out Cold combines elements of 60s Motown and New York's more avant-garde disco with contemporary electronic styles; on this limited 12", the project gets remixed by three artists who all draw out a host of different moods from the Out Cold sound. The Invisible's remix of "Sorrow" is as lush as you'd expect, concentrating on the dark, spacious, orchestral elements of his sound. Ewan Peason elects to concentrate of disco and synthpop influences, to deliver a midtempo remix with crisp, clean sonics reminiscent of classic Metro Area, while Craig Bratley turns in a glittering Balearic-tinged version that will have everyone dewy-eyed for the days of 2008.

Review: In the 12 years since he unfurled acclaimed debut album Clarence Park, one-man electronica factory Chris Clark has produced a vast body of work. He's been particularly busy on the remix front, completing a huge array of reworks. It's this work that makes up the vast majority of Feast/Beast, a remix retrospective (which, curiously, also includes some notable reworks of his material) split into two distinct halves. The first disc, Feast, focuses on the more melodic, other-worldly end of his output, delivering wide-eyed remixes of Amon Tobin, Kuedo and, most beautiful of all, Silverman. Beast, the second disc, moves into darker, tougher territory, joining the dots between techno, bass music, vintage hardcore and wonk-hop thanks to notable versions of Massive Attack, Maximo Park and Depeche Mode.

Review: Yes, yes, yes - essential and long overdue repress of the Cold Waves & Minimal Electronics Volume 1 compilation from the Angular Recording Company. Compiled jointly by Angular Recording's Joe Daniel and Weird Records founder Pieter Schoolwerth - the former a curious newcomer to Cold Wave and the latter a certified expert - the 17 tracks here read like a classicist document of the late 70s/early 80s primitive electronics movement focusing largely on European acts. Highlights come thick and fast with Ruth's sultry slow burner "Polaroid" up there alongside Jeunesse D' Ivoire's "A Gift Of Tears" and "Watching Trees" by Eleven Pond as particular favourites of the Juno review team. If you missed our back in 2010 you best not this time!

Review: Alexey Nikitin continues his prolific output under the Nocow banner with a fourth studio album Solus and second for the Hamburg operation Fauxpas Musik. Whilst previous material from the St. Petersburg based Nikitin has brought favourable comparisons with the shy and retiring Burial, the eight track Solus sees the Nocow sound expanded into the realm of vintage electronica with hints of 90s era Autechre and Aphex Twin peaking through at times. A typically moody "Intro" sets the tone as Nikitin looks to evoke emotion and capture attention through intricate levels of textural detail with tracks such as "Axylotic Tranquel" and "Havoc" standing out.

Review: Samurai's Horo imprint is about to unleash an immaculate collection of the most far-reaching audio adventures imaginable, and this sampler hints at how great the whole album will be... Fis takes up fifty per cent of the 12" with the shuffling, muffled post-modern melodies of "Arrivals" and the paranoid, dub-droned "Celiac Tingle". Indigo's "Snowfall" is as majestic as the title suggests; all dub sparkles and troublesome subs. Synth Sense completes this delectable teaser with a pensive, angular array of metallic soundscapes and spaciousness. Dive deep.

Review: Finnish experimentalist Mika Vainio always continues to surprise and amaze with each new release, managing to always re-invent hi sound and go beyond his peers. Kilo comes courtesy of Blast First Petite - finally available here on vinyl following its digital release in July - and goes through ten tracks of Vainio's finest drone manipulations via way of complex beat-driven machinics. Everything from the opener "Cargo" to tracks like "Cranes" or "Sub-Atlantic" and even "Wreck" display a a more aggressive side of Vainio that harks back to his classic work with Pan Sonic, albeit with a more explicit industrial techno fury. Highly recommended!
