Why I Came To California
Why I Came To California (yellow vinyl 7" limited to 100 copies)
Cat: ODO 1545 YELLOW. Rel: 25 Sep 24
Why I Came To California (feat Eki Shola & Denise M'Baye) (4:05)
What You Won't Do For Love (feat Ryuto Kasahara - Soul Supreme remix) (4:05)
Review: Nautilus' second European tour is just kicking off and now, ahead of their new album Pacific Voyage, a special 7" single has emerged. This gem features a track that didn't make the album cut due to time constraints but now shines and has you wondering just how good the album. The A-side has a jazzy rendition of Leon Ware's soulful classic 'Why I Came To California,' sung by Californian vocalist Eki Shola and supported by Denise M'Baye. Their fresh vocals, combined with Nautilus' vibrant instrumentation, create a contemporary take on the original. The B-side features a funky remix of Bobby Caldwell's 'What You Won't Do For Love' by Soul Supreme that showcases rising Japanese star Ryuto Kasahara.

Slow Light On A Feather
Cat: ROV 5. Rel: 18 Feb 25
Slow Light On A Feather (Haruka Nakamura remix) (3:43)
Slow Light On A Feather (2:31)
Review: Nitsua's new 7" featuring 'Slow Light on a Feather' was originally on their album Soul of the Sky, alongside a remix by Haruka Nakamura. The original is a dreamy, mellow track centred around a gentle piano that effortlessly embodies Nitsua's fantastical worldview with flute and piano performed by the artist also. Haruka Nakamura's remix complements the song's atmosphere in its own way, Starting with a guitar phrase and layering synths, guitar and piano it creates a more dramatic, beautifully crafted version. The remix perfectly merges the visions of both artists and makes for a fine different perspective.

Review: Japanese jazz-funk trio Nautilus's Sunrise is a vibrant album packed with their signature blend of tight grooves, lush melodies and soulful synths. Drawing inspiration from classic 70s jazz-funk while infusing modern sensibilities, this record delivers a signature dynamic sound that's both nostalgic and fresh. Intricate instrumentation defines it with leader Toshiyuki Sasaki's precise drumming, Shunsuke Umino's fluid basslines and Daisuke Takeuchi's expressive keys driving each track. Highlights include shimmering originals and inventive reinterpretations that once again cement Nautilus as a cornerstone of contemporary jazz-funk innovation.

Review: Originally released on December 21, 2012, Kenichiro Nishihara's third full-length album Illuminus finally arrives on vinyl. Fans have been waiting more than a decade for this magical fusion album to be pressed up to wax and if you don't know why you will understand as soon as you tune it. It's a brilliant mix of the urbanity of jazz and the streetwise nature of hip-hop. Along with some brilliant electors, those foundational sounds combine into a still futuristic-sounding work that does alive with great guest spots from the likes of Daichi Diez, Gregg Green and Tamala & Takurah amongst many more.
