Review: Small repress of the Modern Sun Records founder and experienced jazz-wise producer Marc Friedli AKA Skymark. A-side "Flying Fantasy" originally appeared on the Spanish producer's 2016 album "Resistance Sonore", but is here featured in instrumental form for the first time. If anything, it's better than the original version, largely because we get to revel in Friedli's mazy Fender Rhodes solos, rubbery jazz-funk synth bass and loose-limbed, West London style broken beats. You'll find plenty more jaunty jazz-funk vibes and liquid electric piano solos on B-side cut "Rhodes E Serenidade", which first slipped out way back in 2015. Review: Skymark is an unequalled synth wizard who brings impossibly bright rays of sunshine to his fusions of funk, broken beat and deep house. He has put out various albums but now make this way to the always cultured Nsyde label out of Berlin. 'Easy Saturday Night' opens up in loose and louche fashion with lazy beats and waves of gorgeous synths. A Mike Huckaby remix then layers in some extra dub drums. 'insomnia' then layers leggy kick drums with sweeping chords that swell like an ocean. A Kevin Reynolds remix brings some Detroit flavour.

Review: Brazil-based synth funk wizard Skymark aka Modern Sun Records founder Marc Friedli turns out endless amounts of sun worshipping musical goodness. The likes of Theo Parrish often reach for his dazzling gems, and now we treated to a remix form fellow house hero Mike Huckaby. The late, great Detroit producer flips 'Easy Saturday Night' into a deep rooted roller his trademark disco tinged loos limbed drums, surging chord work and a muffled vocal that brings an interplanetary vibe. It's a killer remix from the sorely missed artist.

Review: Italian imprint Neroli borrow the talented Swiss born and Spanish based Skymark from Modern Sun Records for this five track EP that showcases his many ranges, traversing beyond deep house at times to incorporate jazz and funk. Lead track "Thank You (Ed)" eases you in, its gentle tones paying homage to larger than life Brazilian musician Ed Motta, and it doesn't prepare you for the undeniable funk of "Clavins Debauchery", one of few tracks to merge sleazy slap guitar with finely judged house tones. The remainder sees Skymark stick closer to the deep house template with three tracks featuring the vocal talents of Jair Santiago with the slow burning "Stay True To Myself" a clear highlight.

Review: Stepping up to the plate for Germany's Nsyde imprint, Skymark reaches out to Lady Balcktronika to help him out with a wonderfully jagged approach to boogie infused house music, not least on the lead track "Use Me". There are synths flying all over the place in the loosest kind of funk, from cheeky Moog trills to unconscious chord stabs, all stitched together in an authentically soulful way. "Honeymoon Ballad" is a more techy affair, featuring more of the same bonkers synth action but in a more forward-thrusting and low-passing way. "Destructive Poison Everywhere" finds a space somewhere in between its two predecessors, although it's definitely still more catered to the linear dancefloor.
