Review: Dieter Ilg is one of the top jazz bassists in Germany. He has been involved with many different creative projects and has used them to take the music of greats like Verdi, Wagner, Beethoven and Bach into all new directions. Here he plays with pianist Rainer Bohm and drummer Patrice Heral and returns to focus on Ravel. He has long been fascinated with the composer's work and dives deep into it here to cook up some fresh new interpretations that are very much left of centre.
