Review: This year marks 30 years since the launch of New York's first dedicated record shop (and later label) Sonic Groove. There are numerous celebratory releases planned, but first L.I.E.S. is treating us to a fast-paced sprint through the "acid archives" of Sonic Groove co-founder Adam "X" Mitchell and his sometime production partner Jimmy Crash. The EP boasts two significant early '90s cuts from their collaborative X-Crash project: the insanely raw, fast and druggy insanity of "Executioner" and the squelchy thrust of "Sick Trick", where psychedelic acid lines buzz around another bombastic techno groove. The 12" also includes a couple of Adam X solo missives, with the previously unreleased acid techno slammer "Swamp Thing" arguably being the EP's standout track.

Review: Given the success of the first two installments of the Editions series, it's little surprise to see XDB put together a third volume for his Metrolux imprint. He's assembled another crack team of international contributors, too. Autre and Xinner join forces on opener "Nebula", a fine combination of low-slung techno drums, restless electronics and deep space sonics. Autre goes solo to deliver the fluttering, late night hypnotism of "Seiryu", before Kryptic Universe steals the show with "01309 Stairways", a superb chunk of rolling intelligent techno that features an extended ambient intro. Owen Jay and Brian James round things off with the distorted drum machine hits and woozy riffs of "Chordless" (which, to be fair, is an accurate title).

Review: "Acid Was Conflict - 7th City Classics Volume 1" is an absolutely essential techno release. This is the first record in a series of three limited edition re-issues, with selected tracks from the legendary 7th City Detroit catalogue. This monumental re-release features the amazing "Acid Wash Conflict" by the master Claude Young under his Brother From Another Planet alias. This has long stood as a blueprint for minimal music of today, played regularly by the likes of Richie Hawtin, Ricardo Villalobos and Dan bell etc.

Review: Nug-Net.com is an ingenious idea for a website - simply sell nuggets online. Nuggets of what, though? Gold? Weed? Music production expertise? Raw banger ore? We'd wager it's the latter; the story goes that in 2021 during the coronavirus pandemic, the website's mastermind Gene On Earth created his production masterclass 'Nuggets: The Blueprint'. Review: Alexi Delano and Santi "Xpansul" Ferrer met during 2004 in Madrid, Spain and have been recording together since. 2006 marks a strong release year for the duo with their debut on Plus 8 as well as a single on Adam Beyer's True Soul label. Both together and separately their recording and performing careers have each taken shape over the last 10 plus years. "Intelligence Reframed" rattles and rolls in true Plus 8 dancefloor spirit, shifting in precise yet animated techno. The A-side lead off track "Echolocation" sends a driving but relaxed beat into a sinister zone of space. "Cosmic Antipathy" grooves along with its electro stabs, square - wave bubbles and cosmic tones that squelch and electrocute. First off the edge of the B - side is "Vegetotherapy", a deeper approach to their sound with a slightly industrialized attitude. "Meta - Intellectual" takes the record out on a surgical bang, tossing up layers of shadow melodies and manic loops of metallic percussion.
Alexi originally hails from Stockholm (Sweden) where he grew into DJing and producing alongside friends Cari Lekebusch and Jesper Dahlback during the early 1990's. From living in cities like Barcelona and now New York, his musical & DJ perspective is global and his sounds continue to expand. Santiago Ferrer runs three labels, Discos De Lata, MSX and Sindicato Records, based out of Madrid. He is one of Spain's most respected electronic music artists and has new releases coming out on Apnea and his own Discos De Lata label.

They bring two tracks that are a perfect example of the sound that has put them on the top places of charts and dancefloors all over the world. "Foreign Exchange" has all the elements of that good old techno we all love: powerful bass, a steady, playful groove, deep and mysterious bassline, elegant and distinctive sounds with that hypnotic touch, and well executed arrangements. Review: Tresor again opens its vault, this time skipping the '90s inspired techno for four old school house cuts from Deepside, Santonio, Xperiment and AES, all of which featured on DJ Deep's excellent Kern mix CD. Deepside opens the first volume of Kern rarities with an acid based drum dance in "III", whereas Santonio plays on looped keys and jumbled strings in "Amnesia". Xperiment hits up a plodding bass line alongside a Beverly Hills Cop sounding melody and jacking drums, and AES brings the only vocals to the EP with a classic cut of Chicago house.

Review: DJ Gigola joins fellow Berliners X Coast to revel in their mutual love for a playful, tongue-in-cheek party sound. The tracks on 'G Coast' are both versions of 'Ich Bin Ready', the original version of which contains Gigola’s whisper-sung vocals for a slippery foray into a noughties red-hued nightlife sound. Meanwhile, the X-Coast version on the B-side offers up subtler chillout trance moods, with ecstatic, nigh orgasmic breaths and vocal shouts peeking in between the beats.
