Review: Three years after the iTunes reggae chart topping first album on Trojan Records, More Fire is a second studio album packed with scorching reggae sounds from Reggae Roast, who have been at the core of the UK's sound system culture for years. This outing brings together some of the best names in the game both old and new from veterans Horace Andy, Johnny Clarke and Horseman to new school voices like Gappy Ranks, Mr Williamz and Soom T. The original artwork by Sophie Bass conveys the vitality of these sounds expertly and each copy is individually hand numbered.
Review: In 1982 L.J. Reynolds released his second solo album Travelin', which was a split production between Reynolds and Don Davis. This classic soul album includes "Trust In Me", "Say You Will" and "Call Me", the latter being written by Aretha Franklin. Travelin' features guest performances by Bernie Worrell and William "Bootsy" Collins. A classic soul album for your ears' sultrier side.
Review: Originally released way back in 1969, Terry Riley's "A Rainbow In Curved Air" album remains one of the minimal maestro's most significant works. Crafted using overdubbing techniques, the three-movement title track features Riley playing layer upon layer of electric organ and electric Harpsichord motifs to create a hypnotic, Indian style raga. It was hugely influential at the time - inside and outside of the emerging minimalism scene - and later influenced the ambient and ambient house movements. Here it gets the audiophile reissue treatment, with the title track once again being joined by original flipside "Poppy Nogood & The Phantom Band" - a trippy wig-out in which Riley pays tribute to soprano saxophonist John Coltrane over more hypnotic, fast-past organ refrains.
