Review: Proper pristine, technical drum & bass here from the Transmute crew, expending far more effort than most junglists in fleshing out the body, weight and polish of each constituent sound. Mostly forgoing sampled breakbeats, the 'DUOS' EP hears refreshingly unusual sound design choices dance over a more straight-up rollage in the rhythm section(s). Review: Following the recent Potential Bad Boy reissue 'Retro 3', here comes another blast from the foundational past with the short-lived Redskin imprint. This time it's back to 1994 with the producer previously known as Chatterbox (with Big Vern on Noise Factory) taking the lead with a killer reggae sample and happy-slapping breaks on 'Journey Into Sound' and a champion loving vocal on 'Dub Fe Dub'. Meanwhile Potential Bad Boy serves up another blueprint in the form of the deep space escapade 'Jungle Sound Scape'. A futurist vision with a honey-like sample, Chris McFarlane was way ahead of his time.

Review: Back on wax by popular demand (this time green), OG producer Chatter B's return to the game enjoys a re-boost and it still sounds every bit as vital; "Smoke Da Weed" has that bubbly Breakage feel that just hums through a system so sweetly. Elsewhere "Jam Hot" hits with a little more Bristol flavour, all minimal and bouncy, while the reggae-topped "Burn Down Da Dance" hits with much chunkier beats and more of a modern D&B feel. That's before we even get to the ravey jam from OG solider Potential Bad Boy. Jump on it or wait two years for another reissue.

Review: Spanish stable Satta Sounds get busy on their Tuff Cut TCR series once again, inviting a rabble of roustabouts to the table: Conscious Species, Dr Um, Wize & Deadly and Pastaman all lay down their uncompromised designs and it's another freestyle breakbeat frenzy. Highlights run rife from the opening flutters and skips of Conscious Species' 'Warming Up' to the walloping swing and funk of Pastaman's finale 'Take Your Time'. Don't take that title literally, either! This 12" is limited and likely to fly as fast as the breaks themselves.

Review: Those DATS keep getting unearthed and remastered as Dlux and Persian Prince hit the fifth volume in the series. Once again, it's an open and shut case of music that was decades ahead of its time. Spacey to the point of psychedelic, freeform to the point of jazz; Dlux was a master at those lean unpredictable grooves that have stood the test of time so well. Highlights include the sudden chops into funk breaks on "Drummer's Return" and the frantic gamey 8 bit bubbles of "I Gotcha Part 2". Ageless slammage.

Review: Big up to Samurai Music for making it to the huge milestone of 100 releases on vinyl over the last 17 odd years. They celebrate in the best way - with more of the good stuff across three EPs. Dom & Roland open this silver slab with 'Going Solar' which is a manic, ear prickling collision of monstrous breaks and caustic synths. Eusebeia's 'Psychoid' is a more soulful and heady minimal rhythm, Presha's snares are razor sharp on 'Ratcatcher' and Hoji explores dark drum patterns, unsettling cosmic energies and booming bass on the mighty 'Umbra.'

Review: Immerse, Philth & Ant TC1 tap into their early influences on this new EP on the mighty Metalheadz label. It comes pressed up in nice white vinyl but is actually a moody and throwback sound. 'Dark 97' is just that - an unrelenting and heavy brew with savage bassline and monstrous beats. Flip it over and you will find Philth & Ant TC1 going it alone with Immerse, this time on 'The Eastern' which taps into a more thoughtful jungle vibe with its lovely soulful pads and silky smooth drums, muffled horns and laidback brilliance.

Review: Echo Chamber open up their vault for the first time in 2025 with this powerful set of collabs with the bossman Lo Quality AKA LQ. Keeping it strictly southern hemisphere, all link-ups are relatively local as LQ brings the best out of his production partners. NZ craftsman Midnight Dubs brings big atmospherics to the opener 'Westwind Rebels' while Pugilist brings some immense fire to the fittingly titled 'Wild & Erratic'. Elsewhere LQ goes solo on the UK-inspired 'A Lovely Area' before Pugilist and Taman end the EP with a powerful twist on a previous LQ collab (with Kloke) - 'Computer Bubblers'. Keep on bubbling.

Review: Coming out of the Audio Plants fraternity, Ukranian drum & bass artist Pageant brings a bright and breezy musicality to the scene on this expansive debut album. The beats come through clear and punchy while the instrumentation takes its lead from LTJ Bukem's smoother moments to results in a very palatable kind of liquid drum & bass. This is as feel good as the genre can get, and with its wide scope for natural and synthetic sound sources it never tires on the ears. Whether it's the soaring vocal of Elena Aki on "Space Song" or the expressive guitar trills on "Taxi Driver", there's always something catchy to draw your ear in to Pageant's smooth as silk soundworld.

Review: Break digging king and all-round legend and scientist Paradox sees his 2013 classic getting a timely reissue. 'Scorpius' rattles and wriggles with stacks of space between each element. Harrowing yet soothing, it's a classic example Paradox living up to his name. Flip for 'Crate Logic' as Dev gets his funk on with a classic vocal shot and a series of breaks that he flips between with such ease and charm you'd swear he was in the same room with the drummer. Precision break science.

Review: Dev Pandya is Paradox, an artist who's fine career started back in 1992 as part of Mixrace on Moving Shadow. Back then the breakbeats and jungle he was making weren't considered vintage, but now it is, and for fans of that sound the fact he is still turning out the same sort of sounds is great news. After a top 12" on this label in August, he ends his year with a return that features two more perfectly assembled tunes. 'Nord' is clean, mechanical and heavy stepping material with plunging bass and 'Kenai' is a more fluid breakbeat that is doused in cosmic synth warmth.

Review: Contemporary jungle Renaissance crew Omni Music continue to look back over their vaults for more vinyl reissue gold. This time, two tracks from Pariah's 2017 'Selected Works' series. Two very different approaches to the jungle style; 'Meltdown' is a big dreamer of a track with its lush pads and subtle sense of drive and momentum while 'Metal Hero' is a much more punishing affair with uncompromising breaks and an aggy energy that will cut into any mix creatively. Both absolutely slap.

Review: Mike Parker, a master of ice-cold wormhole techno, returns to Samurai Music with an EP that pushes the boundaries of 170BPM dancefloor devastation. 'Envenomations' sees Parker apply his steely, rigorous approach to the drum & bass template, crafting a collection of tracks that are as hypnotic as they are relentless. The A-side features two lean, rolling workouts, 'Voc-1 Robot' and 'Ee-Yo', their minimalist aesthetic and atonal synthesis recalling the icy cool sounds of mid-90s Krust. On the flip, Parker delves into more spacious territory with two tracks originally released digitally, their hypnotic grooves and alien textures showcasing his signature sound. With its blend of techno and drum & bass influences, 'Envenomations' is another standout release from a true auteur.

Review: Deep Jungle goes all the way back to 1997 for this next 12". It is a couple of classic cuts form Pascal that were well hyped and much loved at the time and haven't diminished in the years since. These tunes also helped to kick off what went on to be a legendary label so have extra historic importance. 'Just Rollin A Fat "B" is a jumble of edgy amen breaks and unsettling synths next to saw tooth bass, while 'I Got You (Ezee Boy)' pairs more macho drums with softer, more soulful chords. This is a must have reissue for any self-discerning jungle head.

Review: Back to 93! Deep Jungle dig deep into the vaults of a true player... Pascal, the man behind so many big labels and events throughout jungle d&b history. This one was one of his most pivotal pieces. Co-produced with Sponge, both left, right and the unreleased versions of 'Nosebleed' capture that darkside melting pot that was frothing over in all directions throughout the 92/93 era. 'Future' meanwhile captured that icy sci-fi soul that would very quickly merge and melt into deep atmospheric jungle and sounds that Bukem and Fabio would be pioneering at Speed. Straight up seminal.

Review: Old school amen breaks lovers this one is for you: Pearl River Sound has perfected them across this five-track offering on Adepta Editions with 'Acidduo' kicking off with lashings of acid. 'The Horny' is a jungle workout with distorted textures and busted bass in constant motion, then 'Breakyweaky' flips the script and offers up some electro-tinged hip-hop funk with a dark and menacing mood. 'Ragga Bass' is a brilliantly silly cut that will blow up any sound system and 'Rob Of The D' is just as thrilling and unhinged.
