Review: While not the most celebrated house music 'original' by any means, Chicagoan producer Terrance McDonald was responsible for a handful of fantastic releases in the 1990s for the likes of Djax-Up Beats and Dance Mania. However, it's his 1991 debut, Mind Over Matter, that is most revered. Here reissued for the first time since 2010, the EP blends the drum machine-driven jack of early Chicago house with the Afro-futurist electronics of Motor City techno. For proof, check the hypnotic brilliance of 'Mind Over Matter', where looped synth sounds ride a thumping beat and chunky bassline, and the more sweat-soaked 'New Mix' by fellow Chi-Town legend Steve Poindexter. Elsewhere, 'Spaced Out' is deeper, spookier and even more hypnotic - all alien electronics and restless percussion - while 'Back From Canada' is a funkier and cheerier machine jam.

There is a darkness to their brand of tech that is evident from the off with 'Body Move' with its stark drum hits and twist deadline, all topped with some moody vocal mutterings. 'Beautifull' appears twice on the A-side, one as a vocal mix by Kerri with skipping Afro house rhythms and gorgeous melodies next to jazzy horns, and another as an instrumental. The same tune comes three more times on the flip with Opolopo remixing and adding some extra weight for the club. The more meandering original is the one brave DJs go for despite its lack of rooted groove.

Review: Two years ago, the rebooted Vibraphone Records imprint reissued Minimal Vision's sought-after, self-titled 1992 debut. If anything, the Italian outfit's six-track 1993 follow-up - imaginatively titled 'Minimal Vision II' - is even more highly valued by deep house diggers and record collectors. This remastered reissue is, then, long overdue. It remains a fantastic mini-album, with highlights including the chunky, early progressive house-influenced hypnotism of 'Sea Bird', the acid-flecked futurism of 'Vertigo', the tribal-tinged early morning moodiness of 'C119' and the tough Roman techno of 'Repetition'. Best of all, though, is the deep house-goes-tribal headiness of bleep-sporting closing cut 'Ritual'. Simply essential.

Review: Ninja Records looks to build on the success of its first outing with a new outing from Miroloja who are brothers and key players in the Parisian underground with great credits already to their name on Berg Audio, Tzinah Records and OLO RECORDS. Their stripped-back but tight sound is laid bare on opener 'Linkblow' with its warm house kicks and wet clicks soon to make you move. 'Morgan' is speedier with some space-tech vibes and a snappier low-end. Review: Bringing melodies, percussions and textures of the sort which we never thought bringable to techno, Saudi-Irish artist Moving Still wows with his latest EP for Bordello A Parigi. This is an artist whose Pangaean taste spans a wide range, born of both musicality and maturation between nations. The distinctive hum of bedouin traditional music intermixed with notes of Irish reel and abound notably on 'Close To The Shams', where melo-maniacal motifs of each are blurred. 'Bang Of Luban' brings breaksy 4x4s and acids to longing synth reeds that bear a quick glissando, and the titular 'Zaman' of course steals the show with its happy, homegrown metallic percs, against which a cheeky mizmar melody makes do against solar blankets of emotion.

Review: Presented simply, with basic artwork that offers a subtle nod to DJ Harvey's iconic Black Cock Edits series of the 1990s, this single-sided blue 12" marks the debut of a mysterious new rework series: Mr Wong's Edits. We're not sure who Mr Wong is - aside from the fact that the artist is not the grime producer of the same name - but he has delivered a strong debut. 'The Finest This Is What You Are' sees him tastefully mess around with a lesser-celebrated, string-drenched S.O.S Band jam - or at the very least, an acapella of it. This is combined with sweeping, string-laden elements from a simmering Barry White disco number and a shuffling, bossa-influenced Latin house beat. It's certainly a unique combination but one that works really well.

That was backed up with their Origins Series in January this year but it is to the Pioneers we return here with four finely crafted minimal and tech house cuts. Review: The elusive MYOKEN crew delivers another tantalising 12" of dubbed-out edits with a white label release featuring 'Give' and 'Hurt'. On the A-side, 'Give' is a sultry, downtempo blend of echoing vocal cuts and laid-back beats that stretch out like a haze-filled evening. 'Hurt' on the flip side takes a similarly murky approach, warping pop elements into a mesmerising dub-heavy soundscape. With limited pressing and minimal distribution, this release is already sparking excitement among collectorsian essential pick-up for those after raw, dub-infused edits that push the limits of the pop format.

Review: Most disco diggers will be aware of the DJ Harvey adjacent Black Cock series - when it launched in the early 1990s, it was one of the first hush-hush re-edit outlets around. Mystic Slot was Harvey and Gerry Rooney, and this double-header - first released 31 years ago in 1993 - is arguably their strongest moment. A-side 'No Way Back' is a Clavinet-heavy, largely instrumental revision of the Dells' infectious track of the same name, rearranged to stretch out key passages of groove, build and breakdown. It's still a fantastic re-edit, as is flipside 'Disco Adventure', a cut-and-paste dancefloor classic that builds a low-slung, sweat-soaked dub disco delight by blending the groove from a lesser-celebrated Jimmy 'Bo' Horne cut with elements borrowed from tracks by the Winners and eccentric producers Rinder & Lewis.

Review: Hello to Metrica Recordings, a new label from Italy that wants to win hearts and minds with its take on minimal and tech house. It begins with an EP featuring Negs on all cuts but with various collaborators. Franz Di Maio is first on the classically inclined deep house of 'A Bright Spot', while 'Echoes Of Thoughts' is a solo cut with more early Chicago synths and dusty drums. Marco Spinetti steps up to help on the more marching and moody '1112' and two remixes of 'A Bright Spot' shut down with a blend of Balearic and Italo style.

Grant Nelson & Mark Knight lead the charge with 'Do It Y'all', a track that's been tearing up charts and dancefloors with its raw energy and irresistible rhythm for a while now. An homage to Sauro Cosimetti (the Italian house and techno mastermind whose credits include releases on Frequenza, Natura Viva and Beatfreak), six acolytes of the artist bring six, discoic house hosing-downs to the table. Most exciting among the selections are the lively African trad chanter 'The Beginning', the dreamy soulful house 'Inflight' by Rohan Delano, and Montano Orchestra's freestyle-inspired dub-electro-disco 'Tribal Love Beats' version of their own 'Esto Parese Amor'.

Review: Serenity is a mental health charity label that is now back with more sonic gold, this time in the form of a reissue of Marco Bernardi aka Octogen's 'The Journeyman' from 2008 on Soma Recordings. It is an immersive, emotive sound with lush and ethereal pads and a moody bassline that keeps you locked. The B-side offers two original tracks from Bernardi 'Travelling to the Sun' is one to hypnotise floors with its hypnotic chimes and raw drums, while 'Little Tiny Crickets' delivers a fast-paced IDM twist with some killer synth work. As always, proceeds go to charity this time Papyrus UK who support youth suicide prevention and MusicSpace.
