3 Agent - "Fall" (6:05)

TCB - "Spring" (5:42)
Claudio PRC - "Summer" (6:55)
Review: New label D59B Recordings takes you on a journey through the deeper shades of electronics on their inaugural release. It's quite a mixed bag yet it still remains consistent throughout, whether it's the deep chug of Canadian Eddie C's meditative 'Winter', TCB's descent into the cosmic hole on 'Spring' or Sardinian hypnotic techno expert Claudio PRC's icy dub techno soundscape (ironically) titled 'Summer' - you will definitely experience four seasons in a day on Fall Winter Spring Summer Vol 1.

Bumba (4:40)
Poverty (3:46)
Review: Foundation Audio team up two heavy hitters for this ode to heavy sound system music as a way of marking the label's 100th release. This limited edition hand-stamped 10" kicks off with the booming bass and snappy hits of 'Bumba' with its snaking leads and low end wub-wub recalling classic era dubstep. 'Poverty' then pairs some heavily treated vocals with glitchy, glassy sound effects, a rugged and weighty low end and plenty of futuristic and caustic textures. These are dread fuelled bombs designed to be played nice and loud.

48v Spargel Brothers - "Bitten"
Club Paranoia - "The Cabinet Maker"
Slazenger's People - "Britney's Spear"
Freeman - "Dariana"
Review: Tough asparagus themed drum tracks for the culinary minded vinyl DJs out there on volume 4 of Don't Be Afraid's annual series that celebrates the fact that Record Store Day shares calendar space with the first day of the British Asparagus Season. Those who indulged in last year's inaugural pair of releases will be pleased as asparagus punch that Slazenger's People are once again involved, whilst the cuts from Freeman, Club Paranoia and 48v Spargel Brothers, the three series newcomers, demonstrate that quality control remains as high too. Indeed opening cut "Bitten" from the latter bumps with the kind of sweat inducing authenticity that many a current budding house producer could do well to sit through and take notes.

Chez & Trent - "The Meaning"
Review: The third in Prescription's From the Vaults series is perhaps the most crucial to date, delivering a clutch of veritable classics from the label's archives. Proceeding kick off with the timeless Latin house swing of the Mericana remix of A Man Called Adam's "Que Tal America" from all the way back in 96 - check that sax! Alongside it is Chuggles aka UK house don Ralph Lawson's collaborative effort with Chez Damier brings the searing Chicago emotion via the chord heavy bump of "Thankyou". Mr Damier owns the B Side too, in conjunction with fellow house icon Ron Trent with two of their finest works - "The Meaning" in particular is worthy of purchase alone.

Review: You just cannot miss with this superb label which is now up to release number 33 in this series. And the latest is a golden-era classic featuring legendary mic men A Tribe Called Quest and top soul boy Charles Wright & The Watts 103rd Street Band. The A-side features the track taken from A Tribe Called Quest's Love Movement album so is packed with their signature beats and bars. On the B-side, you are treated to the funky original sample source from Charles Wright & The Watts 103rd Street Band which delivers a raw, infectious groove. A1 People - "Do It" (Metamatics remix)
Kosmogonik - "Circuitry"
Silicon Scally - "Relay"
Matt Chester - "November Pathways"
CiM - "Recursive"
Review: Since Zip and Villalobos made it one of their coveted deep digs to be heard pealing out of a thousand after hours sessions, the Metamatics remix of A1 People has been a teasingly out of reach dream grab for many a minimal electro head. Now Yossi Amoyal has done the good deed of getting the track remastered and repressed as part of his Fluere series toasting 15 years of Sushitech. As well as that masterclass of elegant machine funk, there's also Kosmogonik's mind-bendingly brilliant 'Circuitry', Silicon Scally's body-popping electro-noir 'Relay' and Matt Chester's melancholic 'November Pathways' to keep your up-all-night marathon sets peppered with spangled surprises.

James Duncan - "416 Zone Dub" (6:24)
Jacksonville - "Twilight Industries" (7:58)
Satore - "Keep On" (5:31)
Review: Well over two years has passed since the release of Keeping The Legacy, a compilation style EP featuring tracks inspired by "the classic sounds from Chicago, New York and Detroit". This belated follow-up begins with something rather special: a fine Jorge Caiado 'Morning Dub' of lesser known Abacus and Chez Damier hook-up "Closer". While it boasts their usual chunky, groovy bottom-end, the mix also makes great use of a yearning, cyclical electronic melody. Elsewhere, James Duncan delivers the hazy deep house bump of "416 Zone (Dub Mix)", Jacksonville laces dreamy, drifting chords over a killer bassline and heavy percussion on "Twilight Industries", and Satore reaches for the cowbells and Gwen Guthrie vocal samples on the disco-influenced throb of "Keep On".

Danton Eeprom - "L'Homme Canon" (5:59)
Review: Stop yourself in for another rugged ride through electro and techno from the vanguard here as Thisbe Recordings serves up a fifth fantastic slab of wax. It's a fine various artists affair that kicks off with Acid Washed and the legendary Arnaud Rebotini. Their 'Brandtaucher' is a polished metal and electro tinged disco cut with bleeping melodies. Seb El Zin then keeps it real raw with 'Lingua Minimalista' and the energy doesn't dip on Rambal Cochet's flip side opener 'Oseary Drakoulias' races to the star on slap funk bass and cruising melodies. Mount Kismet's 'Sirocco' rides on rugged arps and last of all Danton Eeprom's 'L'Homme Canon' slows right down to an electro-funk and boogie down workout.

Arthur Adams - "You Got The Floor" (5:54)
Millie Jackson - "We Got To Hit It Off" (4:42)
C-Brand - "Wired For Games" (8:38)
Review: Groovin Recordings is kicking off a new series in brilliant style here with three killer disco-boogie tracks. They were all first released between 1979 and 1982 and first up is Arthur Adams with 'You Got The Floor.' It's an uber cool groove with AOR vocals, loose drum funk and sprinkles of disco dust. There is more theatre to the soaring strings of Millie Jackson's 'We Got To Hit It Off' which has rickety drum loops and funky bass riffs. C-Brand's 'Wired For Games' closes won and might be the best of the lot with its coy male vocal, playful guitar twangs and nice raw claps.

Cladu - "No Name" (8:00)
Review: ViGis opening salvo for 2025 brings together four artists from four continents who all blend their own diverse cultural roots and influences into a superb collection of cuts for the club. This is a 12" that offers a refreshing take on familiar sounds and delivers subtle yet punchy variations in style and rhythm. Adema keeps it nice and clean and slick on the deep, bubbly tech of 'Jm Glavio' while Red Pig Flower's 'Stardust' is a zoned-out roller. Artur Nikolaev's 'New Edition' is a deft minimal soundscape with warped lines and bubbles dub undercurrents. Cladu shuts down with 'No Name' which is a more propulsive cut.

Aden - "Luft"

Creepy Autograph - "Mind Image Made"
Creepy Autograph - "Back Ally"
Review: Jimmy Edgar's Ultramajic label reaches only it's second 12" and goes conceptual with the first in a series of Metaphysix releases; in Edgar's own words, "reality is based upon thought systems and this is the core of music and vibration, each chapter of the series we will give these ideas to the artists for them to interpret in any way they choose". The debut Metaphysix transmission sees two contributions each from Eden and Creepy Autograph, with the former elusive producer calling shotgun and gracing the A Side with a pair of dubby numbers that have apparently caught the ears of Scuba and Boys Noize. The bleep laden electro cut "Luft" is particularly ace. Down below Creepy Autpgraph resurface after a series of excellent releases on Valentine Connexion and show they've lost none of their class - the stripped back ghetto house of "Back Alley" is great!

Lack Of Love (Summer Of 88) (extended replay) (12:57)
Reck The Joint (Steve Poindexter Reck The House remix) (8:04)
Review: Mathematics continues their fine run in 2011 with a slice of acid house history from the legendary Adonis. All the way back in 1988, Adonis teamed up with Charles B and dropped "Lack Of Love". It's presented here by Jamal Moss's label in a new "Summer Of Love 88 - Extended Replay" version that retains all the delightful and unpredictably raw rhythms that duck between heavy 303 usage and tub thumping gospel leads. You have to marvel at the chaotic epicness of a track which is over twenty years old and probably produced on the most primitive of hardware. On the flip Mathematics mainstay Steve Poindexter drops an equally demented remix of Adonis' 1989 jacker "Reck The Joint" that double dares you to dance.

It's doing so with a bumper collection of 44 exclusive tracks from 46 of its best artists across an eight-volume vinyl and digital series. The series not only traces the label's evolution, but that of techno itself and this sixth outing once again offers no-nonsense, heady and atmospheric techno that is both physical and inventive. Review: This is a special sampler 12" taken from the Various Artists compilation Defend Your Planet that Avoidant Records put out. It features a heavyweight crew of electro mainstays, first of which are The Advent & Zein Ferreira. Their 'Defend Your Plane' is a turbo powered cosmic assault with skewed synths and high speed drums. Assembler Code's 'Line Of Sight' doesn't let up, powering on through sheet metal snares and juddering drum programming and then man like Carl Finlow layers in prickly melodies, dark sci-fi energy and booming bass. Analogue master Versalife shits things down with the shadowy 'SH09.'

Modulator AKA Freddie Fresh - "Promars" (5:27)
Review: EPM20 Ep2 goes off on an electro tangent here. On this one, we have veteran producer Cisco Ferreira aka The Advent teaming up with his son Zein on the ferocious electro dystopia of "Strangeform" and as if that was not enough, another legend, the one and only Carl Finlow appears next with the abstract, cybernetic beats of "Optogenetic". Over on the flip, we have someone by the name of Detroit's Filthiest (quite an accolade!) who is in fact Motor City stalwart Julian Shamou (Motor City Electro Company) known for his work as 313 Bass Mechanics or Digitek, and longstanding hero of the Midwest Freddie Fresh should need no introduction; his contribution here under the Modulator alias is the deep mind IDM journey "Promars".

Review: Subsequent is doing a fine job of offering up cutting-edge sounds from the UK underground. This 13th EP is a various artists offering with just that on both sides. Aerofunk's 'Idea' kicks off with warped bass and drilling synths that hark back to golden-era tech house. 4D gets more cosmic on his silvery '1 Step Bck 2 Steps Fws' and new school stalwart Josh Baker gets all twitchy and paranoid on the jittery 'Somebody's Watching Me.' Last of all is the gritty and grimy tech bumper that is Croft's 'Levi'. This is fresh club music ready to do damage.

Review: The legendary Fokuz label outta the Netherlands hits a 110th release and opts for a selection of remixes from various artists. AirK & Cephei open up with 'Desire,' a slick roller with booming bass and epic synths. Break then comes through with tight remix of A2 Soligen & Type 2 's 'Can't Go' complete with expertly design hits. Break then goes it alone on the original 'Coming 4U' with its low end oscillations and closes out the EP back in remix mode. His take on 'What Are You' is a roaming, textural affair with twisted leads and flurries of toms.

Now it kicks off a new Various Artist series with five quality tunes. Akasha System's 'Midnight Tide' is a nice neon-lit future tech cut with bubbling, soft focus melodies. Amir Alexander - "Cypher"
Chris Mitchell - "213 NI"
DJ Spider - "New World Resistance"
Dakini9 - "Rollercoaster To Nowhere"
Review: Volume four of the Vanguard Sound series from Anunnaki Cartel label sees Amir Alexander and Chris Mitchell once again open the invitation to the East Coast house innovators. This time it's Plan B pair DJ Spider and Dakini9 who line up alongside the label founders with Amir Alexander setting a rough and rugged tone on opening track "Cypher". Rasping kicks and a killer bouncing analogue bassline drive the track forwards as Alexander gradually weaves in a searing synth tone which increases with smudged incandescence until a vocal sample offers some brief politically tinged respite before the synth tone kicks back in. Mitchell is in equally bullish mood on "213 NL" a straight up drum track that ratchets up into full blow acid filled psychedelia as the final third hones into view. On the Plan B side, Spider drops one of his trademark lurching rhythms, with skittering drums traversing the gritty lower frequencies of "New World Resistance" which is filled with the sort of vocal samples that justifies the title. "Rollercoaster To Nowhere" from Dakini9 is just as impressive, retaining the murky mood yet driven by it's own almost drunken percussive swagger.

Review: Another arm of Chez Damier's multi-limbed Balance Alliance, Courtesy of Balance inaugurate a new series of 12" compilation releases with COB 3, arriving on limited edition transparent vinyl. Amir Alexander kicks things off following a crop of killer releases for Vanguard Sound and Hype LTD with "Dragon Fly!" featuring the subtly undulating bassline and fresh take on the deep house template he's known for, while City 2 City's "True People 88 89 90" comes true on the promise of its title, with a piece of vintage house that goes beyond the usual hollow revivalism. On the flip, Immer & Mr J's "Delta 23" offers a thick piece of mid-tempo house, with a piercing kick drum, offbeat dub chords and contained acid madness, while St Sene & Janeret's "Nightshifter" takes things down a notch with a late-night house track filled with swirling pads and diva vocals swelling on the midnight horizon.

These mixes actually first surfaced on a digital-only release back in 2013, but now they've been buffed up for a full vinyl pressing, and rightly so. Bringing us the sixth volume of their popular Machine Funk Is Our Game series they've pulled together an impressive array of artists including Alonzo, Daniel Savio, Deroboter, Kid Ginseng, and Cybereign. 'Nikki Don't Save Me' is the powerful, bass heavy track that opens the compilation. Veering through meteor fields and firing through wormholes, this is tonally dark electro at its best. 'Chrome Belt Buckle (feat. Questosahn)', a scratch-inflected journey through warped vocals and frenetic percussion, is another highlight. Perfect for the club or cruising down the highway, this is a cornerstone record for electro fans.

Review: For those interested in punchy, forthright and funk-fuelled techno, Kraftjerkz ongoing Machine Funk Is Our Game series should be essential listening. There's plenty to get the blood pumping on the label's latest instalment, the fifth in total and first of 2021, beginning with ALONZO's Drexciya-style opener, 'Shitto Maltese'. Konertymi opts for energy aplenty on the fizzing bass, punchy beats and sci-fi synths of 'Replikantti', while Zarcon's 'TicTac' is an acid-fired chunk of electronic funk and DJ Di'jital's 'Jit It Up' is ghetto-tech for wannabe astronauts everywhere. Elsewhere, King Ginseng adds a little stomp to the '80s electro style sounds of Cybereign's 'Breathing Apparatus' and Bart Karlos's 'Shaftwerk' is as deliciously sleazy and spacey as you'd expect.

Alt8 - "Loop Da Loop" (6:10)
Review: Stay Up Forever provides us with plenty of excuses to do just that on this cream 12". Alt8's 'Loop Da Loop' gets a banging remix from Chris Liberator & The Geezer that's built on potent drums with lashings of visceral synth. Sterling Moss keeps the urgency going with 'The Rebirth' which has frosty and fuzzy textures and gritty warehouse techno drums. Chane brings acid liens fired out of a machine gun on 'Nobody Is Watching' and the original version of Alt8's 'Loop Da Loop' closes out the EP.

Dan Andrei - "Si Un Ecou" (8:07)
Root - "Apophis" (7:36)
Clock Poets - "Galaxy" (13:45)
Review: Clock Poets returns with Surrealism, a three-track various artists exploration of minimal techno and micro-house. Dan Andrei's 'Si Un Ecou' is a stripped-back, bass-heavy roller that is simmering with tension before erupting into modulated synths. Root's 'Apophis' delivers swing-heavy micro-house with shuffling drums and growling synth textures which nod to the genre's golden era. Clock Poets' 'Galaxy' on the flip is a sprawling 14-minute live-recorded jam rich in intricate sound design to end with a classy touch. Surrealism masterfully balances moods and textures here and makes for another refined entry in the Clock Poets catalogue for lovers of thoughtful, hypnotic dance sounds.

Human Assembly (Maetrik's Assembly)
Alex
Review: Brian Aneurysm and Christian Quast unite for the first time to deliver a monster machine called "Human Assembly", a track with the darkness of Brian Aneurysm, and the German-tech of Christian Quast. Without a doubt, the rest of the EP reflects this chemistry. And what happens when you throw Maetrik into the mix? You get a peak-time basher called "Maetrik Assembly", which is an unflinching and mind twisting floor buster.

Review: This truly is a clash of the titans! Aquasky's trademark grimey bass and booty beats are fused with vocals from the one and only Kool Keith and the hip hop sensibilities of Crash Berlin, to create what could well be Passenger's biggest track to date!

Moving The Hype Track (Nick Thayer mix)
Moving The Hype Track (Cyantific mix)
Review: It’s been nearly 2 years since the original of this was released and since that time Bronx vocalist Kool Keith has reappeared under his Dr. Octagon alias, prompting the people at Passenger to have this classic revisited and rewaxed. First up, Melbourne wonderkid Nick Thayer laces the track with a severe dose of electrofunk. Taking the track into a more spaced-out vibe and adding his in demand production skills, Nick hands in what many are claiming is his finest remix to date. As the man said when he handed the mix back "I could of just added a bassdrum and snare to Keith’s vocals and it would of sounded sick". Such is the global admiration of Keith Thornton, aka Kool Keith. Cyantific were next on Passenger’s list of drum and bass remixers who are cutting new ground in their genre. Still riding from the success of their debut longplayer on Hospital Records, ‘Ghettoblaster’, and with a cult classic under their belt (‘Don’t Follow’ featuring Diane Charlemagne), this duo is hotly tipped and heavily supported by London Electricity and High Contrast, two other producers who have previously remixed Aquasky!

Chevron - "Vishnu 303"
Review: Drum machines, synths and sequencers are alive and kicking on this various artist EP from, Posthuman's Balkan Vinyl label which features Horror Boogie's Ben Pest and Planet Mu artist Chevron. Mark Archer, a name familiar to Balkan Vinyl, opens the EP with an electrified piece of four-to-the-floor techno funk, while Ben Pest boils down the instrumentation in "Scheduled Acid" for a track that sounds like a cooler version of Mylo's "Muscle Car". Posthuman takes the EP into spacey, Detroit, 909 techno territory with "Don't Rush", while Chevron powers up his 303 to supply a track as cheeky and acidic as what Killekill's Affie Yusuf can muster.
