Review: A new three-track EP from Monica Rocha and Malik Malo, two prominent modern-day Chicano soul artists. While this lesser-known soul subgenre originally made its mark among a mixture of Mexican-American and Black musical cultures throughout the southwestern United States, the style has found more recent resurgence in urban hubs like California. Produced by Edward 'E-Dub' Rios, these two heaters are cover-flips of Smokey Robinson and Betty Wright respectively, and effortlessly channel the low-slung heat that could only be found in the city of angels.
