Review: Turning the clock back to 1991, legendary Welsh DIY pop band Ffa Coffi Pawb repress their second album for the modern listener. Recorded with experimental electronic studio head Gorwel Owen, in a flat, above a Post Office in Rhosneigr, on the island of Anglesey, it makes no apologies for its uptempo and cacophonous sound, swagging out the starting blocks like a Celtic Happy Mondays. Or, more accurately, Black Grape. Shades of Primal Scream are equally audible in at least some of the guitar riffs, although given the group were fronted by a young Gruff Rhys - who would go on to form Super Furry Animals before embarking on his own critically acclaimed and musically outstanding solo career - you can bet your bottom dollar this is far more original than any lazy comparisons would suggest. Or whatever that translates to in Welsh.

Do You Realize?? (instrumental) (3:29)
Review: As is the modern way with all major album birthday milestones, this one now gets a special 20th Anniversary Deluxe Edition which means it comes on limited edition pink vinyl. It is a record that collects together four fab fan favourites. The major one is the 24-minute epic 'Psychedelic Hypnotist Daydream (demo)' which takes up all of the a-side and is a truly immerse and heady sonic trip. It is one of the group's most epic ever tunes and also included are 'Duck Dodgers Theme (Duck Dodgers Demo: With Wayne Scratch Vocal),' 'I Know I've Got To Make That Dream The Real Thing (Demo),' and last but not least the lovely melancholy of 'Do You Realize?? (Instrumental).'

Review: Following the release of The Soft Companion in 1999, the Flaming Lips' management team hastily put together a promo CD featuring out-takes, radio edits and alternate versions recorded during the same sessions. Those ultra-limited, hard to find promo CDs have since become in-demand items amongst the band's legion of fans, hence this first ever "official" release on rather fetching silver vinyl. It boasts various "early mixes" and demos by the band themselves, numerous B-sides and a handful of cuts that ended up as bonus cuts on international releases of the wildly popular album.

Track 6 (1:07)
Lisergico Club (5:02)
Review: If this is your first encounter with Follakzoid then prepare to feel a blustering wind rushing through your hair, even if that is only symbolically speaking. Hailing from Chile, the three piece proudly lay claim to influences that date back to the ancient music of the Andes mountain range dominating a vast chunk of their homeland. But if you didn't know that, their work would likely strike you as blisteringly powerful progressive rock with math, garage and grunge elements.

Or at least that's certainly true of 'El Humo', third track on this self-titled gem that feels purpose built for sweaty basements down dodgy backstreets. And the same can be said for 'Directo Al Sol'. Elsewhere, though, more spiritual nuances dominate. 'Loop' seems to send its loose guitar twangs into the cosmos, while 'Sky Input II' invites us to look over the edge of the peak into an endless beyond. Magical stuff.

Review: Man With A Gun is the debut long player from Singaporean prog and funk group Funkgus. It has a famously enigmatic toxic blue jacket that lurks you in and musically it is no less intriguing. As well as a passionate cover of King Curtis's 'Memphis Soul Stew' there are plenty of supremely psychedelic sounds. The opener is steeped in funky bass riffs with rock-tinged drum breaks and plenty of raw vocals and from there the grooves come thick and fast, often with plenty of texture and charismatic vocals such as on 'Spill The Wine' and the leggy, expressive sounds of 'Everyday People' with its twisted wah wah guitars.

Haru (5:08)
Fur Paul (7:21)
Review: Since its release almost a decade ago, Furstattl's debut EP for Claremont 56, the revivalist krautrock brilliance of 'Rheinlust', has become an in-demand item. It's for this reason that the label has decided to reissue it, alongside a wealth of other tracks from the Mountaineer offshoot and create this compilation style album. Record one pairs the kraut-goes-space-rock 'Rheinlust' with its' original B-side, the even more cosmic and epic, Can-go-Balearic style brilliance of 'Links Der Pegnitz'. Record two contains two hard-to-find cuts from C56 compilations, the pleasingly upbeat and breezy 'Leerlauf' and the heavier, fuzzier 'Haru', with previously unheard cosmic rock/kraut-disco number 'Fur Paul' (a track named in tribute to Claremont 56 founder Paul 'Mudd' Murphy).

Review: Oakland, California. Present Day. Although you might not believe it when you hear it. Justin Pinkerton, or Futuropaco, certainly knows how to drop a red herring, conjuring a cacophony of psychedelic funk-jazz-rock stuff that feels like it has always been here but is brand new, and implies it took a full entourage locked in sweaty jam to realise what is really a one-man-band triumph. Hone in squarely on the rhythmic aspect to understand the core strength. Those drums, and those drum solos, seem to invoke percussive legends without demanding you listen for 20 minutes to their patter and thud. The guitars lunge and drive and chug with the intent of early metal or slo mo druggy electronic dance. And the melodic elements veer from disorientating crescendo to the best of the Spaghetti Western scores.
