Review: When most people think of mid-1970s San Francisco, The Visitation is the kind of sound that likely springs to mind. Released in 1976 by a then-fledgling band called Chrome, the record is packed with the kind of psychedelic rock that invokes borrowed fantasies of floating high above the Gold Gate City, wings gifted through hallucinatory intake. Or in the throes of a tripped out party, waiting to board Jefferson Airplane. In reality, this was nought but a fleeting moment in the group's history, and what followed betrays a very different side to Frisco at the time, one defined by punk and post punk, giving rise to outfits like The Units. Relish in The Visitation then, because Chrome's brief flirtation with this sound is unarguably incredible and all-too rare.

Review: Chaos Rocks, the fourth album from Alan Davey's Hawkestrel project, continues the forward-looking trajectory initiated by The Future Is Us five years ago. The record maintains the project's tradition of star-studded collaborations. Notably, former Rolling Stone Mick Taylor joins in, lending his guitar prowess to tracks alongside legends like Bob Calvert and Nik Turner. While 'Evil Rock' features Calvert's classic vocal from his Hype LP, the numbers with Turner and Huw Huw Lloyd-Langton offer fresh material. Davey sheds light on the inclusion of unreleased recordings, explaining that Turner's contributions were recorded six years ago, while Cleopatra Records secured the rights to Lloyd-Langton's guitar playing. Despite the passing of Mick Slattery, whose contributions are acknowledged, Chaos Rocks stands as a testament to Hawkestrel's commitment to preserving and evolving the legacy of these iconic musicians.

Review: Scene Of The Crime serves up a remastered compilation of previously unreleased rare studio recordings from Iggy & The Stooges. All recorded in 1973; the same year the band would distil the frustration of their initial 1971 break up, their subsequent return upon Iggy failing to pin down adequate replacements, as well as the unchecked ego, rife drug abuse and tour burnout, into the blistering classic we now know as Raw Power. Remastered to their highest quality yet, and boasting alternate takes of gems such as 'Cock In My Pocket', 'Tight Pants,' and 'I Got A Right', this is a must-have slice of rarity for any devout Stoogist.
