For German producer Marco M Bernd quality comes before quantity. Horizon marks only his third release on his own Ehrenfels label since it launched in late 2010 with the Palas EP. The characteristics of Bernd's style of dubbish techno and chord driven house displayed there - analogue reliant and brimming with reverb and echo remains evident on this third EP. The Giessen resident is in restrained form on opening track "Horizon II" carving out dubby textures over a backbone groove of thick bass and crunchy drums, while loose hi hats threaten to careen off grid. In contrast, "Horizon" is a much darker affair though its opening moments where echo-laden tones charm the strident rhythms into loosening up do a good job of making you assume otherwise.
