The somewhat dubiously literary pun of the title aside, 1000 Shades of K represents a real coup for Rawax offshoot Chiwax, as anyone with a fuller understanding of Chicago House heritage will attest. Across numerous aliases, Keith Alexi Shelby has been responsible for some key moments in the genre's foundation - not least Essence Of A Dream as part of Risque III all the way back in 1987 and his other contributions to this day remain far too numerous to document here. Instead we should focus on the four tracks that make up his Chiwax debut, which veer deep into the tribal realm on opening cut "If I Had You" while "www.love.cum" is as x rated as the title suggests and "K Beat" playfully manipulates an incendiary analogue line over superbly dusty drum programming.
