Veteran Swedish hardware (experi)mentalists Frak have enjoyed something of a renaissance in recent years, upping their productivity following a relatively fallow period in the mid 2000s (given that their history stretches back to the mid 1980s, that's hardly surprising). This 12" for Tsar features a quartet of moody analogue jams in their trademark style, including some killer dancefloor material. The real floor-slayer is probably the acid-and-bleeps hypno-chugger "Twinhead", though the slow acid throb of "Lightpeople" isn't far behind. The EP's two most striking moments, though, are the slow house hum of "This Is Lance" and "Drumcometrue", a sparse but bubbling fusion of shuffling rhythms and tumbling, acid-flecked electronics.
