Captured across shows in Sheffield and Southend, Stupidity strips rock'n'roll back to its nerve endings: no frills, no flash-just Lee Brilleaux's feral bark and Wilko Johnson's razor-slash guitar. Their sound is lean, sweaty and impatient, particularly on standouts like 'She Does It Right', 'All Through The City' and a blistering take on Chuck Berry's 'Talking About You'. The mood is urgent, but never messy-Brilleaux controls the chaos like a bandleader possessed. Aided by engineer Vic Maile, the recording hits with barked authority, buzzing with pub sweat and amplifier hiss. Topping the UK chart on release, it marked a rare feat: a no-nonsense live album going straight to number one without a hit single. As a snapshot of Feelgood's primal power, it remains a punch in the ribs nearly fifty years on.
