Review: Vampire Survivors Vol. 1, the soundtrack to Poncle's indie hit, receives a fitting tribute with this 2xLP vinyl release from iam8bit. Composed by Daniele Zandara and Will Davies, the music perfectly encapsulates the game's blend of roguelike bullet-hell action and gothic aesthetic. Drawing inspiration from classic vampire-slaying franchises while exploring modern soundscapes, the result is a synthesis of epic, nostalgic, and unexpected tunes filled with rad riffs and high-impact drum fills. The vinyl edition, pressed on Blood Splatter Red Vinyl, not only complements the game's theme but also adds a visual dimension to the auditory experience. Illustrator Nimit Malavia's cover art captures the essence of Vampire Survivors, elevating the release to a bodacious and badass masterpiece. iam8bit's commitment to nostalgia and new-wave sensibilities shines through in this release, appealing to fans of retro gaming and contemporary music listeners.

Review: Hans Zimmer is really in a class of one for his scoring work. Dune: Part Two is another sweeping masterpiece that perfectly complements one of last year's finest films. Zimmer's talent for both contemplative and epic themes shines through while blending beautiful love themes with bold, powerful battle cries that immerse listeners in distant, captivating worlds. Collaborating with illustrator Greg Ruth, known for his work on Dune: Part One and The Dune Sketchbook, the team aimed to merge the epic with the intimate here and do so with aplomb on a double 140g coloured vinyl in a quadruple fold-out sleeve.

Review: Now widely regarded as one of the best soundtrack composers of his generation, at the very least, Hans Zimmer has been behind plenty of the most seminal movie scores. His work for The Last Samurai is right up there and now for the very first time it is pressed up to vinyl. The 2003 movie starring Tom Cruise was nominated for a Golden Globe for its score and centres around the struggle of Civil War veteran Nathan Algren, the newly formed Imperial Japanese Army and Lord Moritsugu Katsumoto. The music mixes up traditional Japanese taiko drums, shakuhachi flutes and kotos into pastoral passages full of drama and tension as well as beauty.

Review: Hans Zimmer is universally acclaimed as one of the greatest soundtrack composers and his critically-acclaimed Dune score is proof. It now comes on a special sand-colored gatefold with more than 100 minutes of sound in just nine tracks. Denis Villeneuve's film is brought to life by this score with massive swathes of arpeggiated synths as well as stirring vocal chants and plenty of rumbling bagpipes. The record takes in a wide range of moods from ethereal to the more heavy and ominous, with wistful moments and plenty of sorrowful sounds along the way. An epic work, an epic listen.

Review: This is a vinyl edition of the sketchbook version of the soundtrack of the 2021 epic science fiction film ‘Dune’ by Hans Zimmer - the famed German composer behind such ubiquitous motifs for the likes of ‘The Lion King’, ‘Inception’, ‘Interstellar’ and ‘The Dark Knight’. Dune, however, directed by Denis Villeneuve and based on the novel by Frank Herbert, is set in a distant future where a feudal interstellar society is in conflict over a precious spice that grants superhuman abilities. Reflecting this, Zimmer's score is as grandiose as the synopsis suggests, doing due justice to both his style and the outlandish scope of the soon-to-be film series.

Review: The newly released Days of Thunder 2xLP offers Hans Zimmer's powerful score in full, marking its first vinyl appearance and promising a nostalgic, high-octane experience for Zimmer enthusiasts and film score collectors equally. Known for his synth-based rock style in the late 80s and early 90s, Zimmer's compositions here feature hard-hitting guitar solos, intense percussion and his signature keyboard textures, crafting a sound that emulates the thrill of NASCAR racing. Jeff Beck's electric guitar solos amplify the score's triumphant moments, while softer, new age-inspired sequences convey the film's emotional undercurrents. This expanded set includes six bonus tracks with alternate takes, as well as the rare rock arrangement of the main theme, presented on vibrant neon yellow vinyl. Housed in a gatefold jacket with iconic Days of Thunder film art and stills, this release will resonate with both dedicated Zimmer fans and vinyl aficionados, combining the composer's early hard-rock themes with film-specific innovations. Despite Zimmer's own critique of his work here, this collection captures the energetic and bold atmosphere that made Days of Thunder memorable and its vinyl debut provides a tangible, dynamic listening experience.

Review: In the grand scheme of high-concept movies, Days of Thunder is an archetype. Contrary to what the filmic canon sounds like, these flicks are all about blockbuster credentials, "what if" scenarios and plots that can easily be pitched and sold to audiences. In this case, it's a toss up between "Top Gun with stock car racing" or "what if a rookie NASCAR racer overcomes ALL the odds to become one of the all-time greats?" Blasted for its lack of originality, not least given the similarities between this story arc and that of the aforementioned Top Gun - also starring Tom Cruise - two things critics at the time were clear on was how intense and exhilarating the race scenes were, and how amazing Hans Zimmer's score was. Early 1990s power rock? Check. Glittering retro-hued synth beauties? Of course. Hyper emotional and anthemic theme tune? You betcha.

Review: Dune: Part Two has been met by rave reviews form both critics and cinema goers and there is no doubt that yet another epic soundtrack from Hans Zimmer has helped contribute to that acclaim. His work is another masterpiece that perfectly complements the epic saga's grandeur. Building upon the thematic motifs established in the first installment, Zimmer's score transports listeners to the vast, mystical world of Arrakis. With its sweeping orchestral arrangements and haunting electronic textures, the music evokes a sense of awe and intrigue and Zimmer's mastery of cinematic storytelling shines through every note as he captures the emotional depth and complexity of Frank Herbert's universe. From the thunderous percussion of battle sequences to the haunting melodies of desert landscapes, this is a sci-fi soundtrack essential.

Review: It's never easy to separate movie score from movie. Some are more difficult than others, though, for example a collection of atmospheric but subtle accidentals. Or when the soundtrack itself plays such an integral part in the movie, the very hint of it is likely to have you slipping into catatonic dreams of memorable scenes and your emotional response at the time of watching. It will surprise nobody to learn we rank Interstellar in the latter category, given it's the work of legendary composer Hans Zimmer.

Today many major cinema and Netflix movies are going in more experimental directions for musical accompaniment, this masterpiece from 2014 perhaps predates the trend and definitely belongs in comparatively traditional camps, which is no bad thing. From appropriately-titled piano minimalism (Atmospheric Entry), to full blown orchestral drama ('No Time For Caution'), this is less contemporary, more timeless classical from a true maestro.

Review: Second time around for Hans Zimmer and Benjamin Wallfisch's acclaimed soundtrack to Denis Villeneuve's 2017 flick "Blade Runner 2049". Like the film itself, Zimmer and Wallfisch's soundtrack is very much a sequel to Vangelis' 1982 original, with spacey, poignant and bittersweet orchestral compositions sitting side by side with more electronic, synthesizer-driven pieces that match the dark, futuristic mood of the movie. There are plenty of nods towards the musical themes explored first time around, with the climactic "Blade Runner" sounding like a 21st century update of the Greek composer's lauded original title music.

Review: Hans Zimmer is unquestionably one of the greatest composers of modern times. More specifically, he's perhaps the greatest living film composer, having scored more movies than we could ever hope to list here. Recent credits including the much-hyped and long-anticipated Dune redo, and Denis Villeneuve's rightly celebrated sci-fi epic, Blade Runner 2049.

As you guessed from this web page, The Dark Knight is another title he put his name to, all the way back in 2008. Christopher Nolan's second Batman instalment, arguably the finest in the history of the franchise, really needed something rooted in menacing, unsettling atmospherics, with rousing moments capable of restoring hope even against some near-impossible odds. He did just that, as this evocative powerhouse of a classical album proves. Not exactly easy listening, prepare to be moved in more ways than one.
