Review: Sophie Sweetland and Daniel Rincon don't release that many records as Ambien Baby, and those that they do serve up - particularly their previous outings on Isla and Planet Euphorique - tend to be undeniably special. This outing on Tiga's Turbo label certainly hits the spot, with the duo offering up a trio of enticing original productions - the dubby, intoxicating and psychedelic deep house excellence of 'Jaulas En El Cielo', the extra-percussive Latin tribal house wonkiness of 'Baila', and the unflinchingly sub-heavy moodiness of 'Salseros'. Over on the flip, we're treated to two alternative interpretations of 'Bailia': an up-tempo, hot-stepping and subtly energy-packed version by the mighty Roza Terenzi, and a more intense, psychedelic and spaced-out rub by rising stars DNGDNGDNG.

Review: Azari & Who? We don't think anyone is asking that anymore, following the Canadian duo's dramatic rise to the top of the house game with a couple of instant classics in the shape of "Hungry For The Power" and "Reckless With Your Love". Now, with an album slated for Turbo Recordings in early 2011, we get a little taste of what to expect with their first 12" on Tiga's label. They dispense with the traditional vocals/lyrics on jacking late night burner "Indigio", instead employing sultry groans, which are skilfully arranged atop classic piano lines and drum patterns. The accompanying dub strips it back even further while the "The Worker" enters acid techno territory.

Review: A relentless techno workout from a veteran American producer with deep ties to both commercial music and underground dance culture. Across five tracks, the artist distills decades of dance music history into high-powered club weapons designed to shake any sound system. 'New York Is Dead' kicks things off with a raw, crunchy groove, its distorted percussion and searing synth stabs embodying the city's chaotic energy. 'Black Hole At The Disco' takes a futuristic disco turn, weaving shimmering melodies through a heavy, hypnotic bassline. 'Last Song Before Sunrise' taps into electroclash nostalgia, its rapid-fire beats and sharp synths evoking neon-lit hedonism. On the Side-B, 'Break Your Back' delivers a punishing mix of acid-laced bass and brutal drum programming, an industrial-tinged club destroyer. Closing track 'Mind Control' leans into retro techno aesthetics, its hypnotic synthwork nodding to 90s warehouse rave euphoria. Review: Turbo add a sheen of credibility to the increasing formaggio sound of Chromeo with a selection of fine remixes of "Don't Turn The Lights On". Carte Blanche aka Riton and Mehdi craft a central kaleidoscopic synth riff that pulses with mutating glee over a reverberant kick drum groove, with only a smidgen of vocals left intact. After Chromeo remixed "Superstar", Aeroplane returns the favour with a pleasingly sultry late night disco shimmer. Dirtybird's Christian Martin adds some tasty retro electro programming to a techier effort.

Review: The smart money was always on the ever popular Chromeo dressing up "When The Night Falls", their Solange Knowles infused highlight from last year's album Business Casual, for single release. It arrives in twelve inch format featuring remixes from Hercules & Love Affair outfit on one side and Crowdpleaser on the other. The Hercules effort is big and brash, raw house high on the excesses of the late 80s with shuffling rhythms aligned perfectly with the lesser known Knowles harmonies and some sweat inducing big room stabs arriving at just the right moment. Turbo's Swiss delight Crowdpleaser turns in a mix that plays around with Solange's vocals with brilliant stereo effect amidst a dusty throbbing beat and funked out rhythmic flourishes.

Review: Former Footprintz character Clarian is going it alone these days, and after turns on Visionquest and Play It Say It his dense, romantic sound finds a new home on Turbo. "Road To Recovery" may strut forth on a pronounced 4/4 groove but its more defined by the expressive synth lines and fluttering found sounds that linger around it. "Who Are They To Judge Us" takes a more skippy stance in the rhythmic department, although the overall tone is similarly moody and aimed at the headphones. On the remix front, Sei A takes the first track and twists it up tightly into a shuffling minimal house cut, while Iron Galaxy takes the latter track and plunges it into an icy, wilfully airy deep house affair.

Review: The Dahlback cousins are back on Turbo with "Sweden 10 - Finland 0". Jesper and John bring an all-out dancefloor assault so get ready. "Bempa" sports an uber-squelchy synth riff and some crazy distortion effect applied to the kicks that makes sounds we've never dreamed of until now! "Rolle Niva" is pure genius, combining sounds from fifties sci-fi movies alongside manic sweeps, jacking beats and some amazing sequencing. Unbelievable. The finisher is "Tumba" - rolling, jacking and pretty much annihilating, just like the two tracks before it. The Dahlback's are two clever Swedes.

Review: Having spent much of the last two years delivering wild, rave-ready outings, Charlotte De Witte now finds herself sat atop the global techno tree. That wasn't the case when she first released Weltschmerz on Tiga's Turbo label way back in 2015. It was an assured debut, as this timely reissue reiterates. Deeper, hazier and quietly melodic, the five tracks on show tend towards the hypnotic rather than the wild, acid-fired sound she's become famous for. Highlights include the ghostly title track, where deep melodies and intergalactic chords rise above a lo-fi techno beat, the after-hours haziness of 'Damage Control', and the stripped-back, lo-fi techno oddness of 'Relatives of None'.

Review: This mystery man had stolen a piece of my heart. DIM's first 12" on Turbo is called "Sysiphos" and it's (get ready for typical crap "journalist" speak) a fucking great techno record. No vocals, no big weird hooks, no clever gimmicks, just a pure groove, a dirty bass and some great programming. But when you play it, you get it because it causes a sonic tsunami that is even more devastating than a real Tsunami.

Review: Turbo are becoming one of the most malleable labels in dance music to swivel on techno's axis. This sampler shaped accompaniment to a compilation of the same name sees Tiga's label dive straight into heavyweight banger mode, but there's a distinct broken beat and hardcore narrative that's laced throughout all four tracks. DJ Hesburger debuts by filling up the A1 spot with the distorted twinkles of "Roll Up Your Sleeves, Welcome To The Dance", while Dance Company's "Berzerkerz (Hardcore Young Team)" has a similar groove with mellow rave stabs to keep things chilled. Turbo artists Clouds deliver more blistering techno drums with light eastern oriental pads draped over the top in "Blood Skating", while it's straight up wonky funk in Jane's "Fuck Your Alliance" which sounds like Mr Ozio remixing Steve Poindexter's "Work That Mutha Fucker".

Review: South American duo DJs Pareja land on Turbo Recordings after an impressive string of releases for the Comeme imprint - home to a certain Barnt (Hinge Finger, Magazine). It's a collaborative effort this time, featuring two grizzly techno-filtered house excursions with Tom Tom Clubber in the form of "Vamos Viendo" and the totally off-the-wall "Multimedia. The pair then team up with Von Party for another two cuts, the deranged "Serpientes y Escaleras" and drum machine jam that is "Alarma". The techno edge comes from their last collaboration with the aforementioned Tom Tom Clubber, the sublimely arranged "Dock Sound". Check it out for an analysis of its name!
