Review: New York City techno veteran Adam X returns to Long Island Electrical Systems under the ADMX71 alias, where he once again explores the outer fringes of experimental electronics on his latest LP The Aging Process, existing at the intersection of industrial, EBM and techno. Beginning with the contorted noise soundscape of 'Speaking Via Telepathy' he soon unleashes the seething brain bash of 'Sensor-Tised' followed by the strobing tunnel vision of 'Walking Through Walls'. Elsewhere, there's more dystopian themes aplenty as heard on the static TBM pulse of 'They've Instilled Fear In Us', or the pitch black war funk of 'Leading The Way' and the muscular slow burner 'Leading The Way'.

Entschuldigung (4:50)
Cannibals (4:57)
Review: The latest missive in the L.I.E.S. ongoing series of collaborative EPs brings together Cititrax regular An-I (AKA sometime leftfield disco maverick Doug Lee) and Berlin-based experimental electronics maverick Unhuman. The pair begins in forthright fashion, moving from the racing drum machine heartbeats, rhythmic noise and mangled yelps of "Five To Nine", to the doomy bass, triple-time beats and clanking metallic hits of post-punk number "Hate Thy Neighbour". Over on side B they mutilate electro beyond almost all recognition on the alien insanity of "Entschuldigung" before lolloping towards a conclusion with the fuzzy industrial funk thrust of "Cannibals".

Last Laugh (4:57)
Review: New York's Black Dice had to land on their native LIES imprint at some point. It was only a matter of time before label head Ron Morelli picked them up, and he's done so in fine style. The American Tapes, DFA, and Paw Tracks casuals are made up of Eric Copeland, Aaron Warren and Bjorn Copeland, and the trio like to get a little wacky over their coldwave grooves. "Big Deal" is a true post-punk reincarnation, a track that manages to pick out everything that was right about the early 80's by adding in elements of noise, rock, and a little techno. A monumental tune. "Last Laugh" is more dubwise in its approach, where a distorted guitar sways from side to side amid a fuzzy whirlpool of aqueous sonics and dusty percussion. A great release from LIES, and a fresh addition to their more usual house and techno onslaught.

Review: Almost two years after the second volume landed in record stores, Oliver Ho AKA Broken English Club has finally delivered the third and final instalment in his White Rats trilogy of albums. In keeping with its predecessors, the album sees Ho exploring a mixture of politically charged ambient compositions, post-apocalyptic electronic soundscapes, mind-altering industrial grooves and gnarled, post-punk influenced workouts. As you'd expect given Ho's track record, the album sounds authentically dystopian, updating the Cold War era paranoia of early industrial music for a new century. Highlights include the acid-flecked industrial-electro number 'Alone In The Hunt', the strobe-lit EBM heaviness of 'The Kill', the creepy ambience of 'The Burned The Villages' and the clandestine, slow-motion stylishness of 'Love Cuts Deeper'.

Review: Since donning the Broken English Club alias in 2014, British techno veteran Oliver Ho has been rather prolific. White Rats, his third full-length under the pseudonym, appears almost a year to the day from the release of its predecessor. Like that set (The English Beach), the album sees Ho explore his industrial and EBM influences, serving up nine fuzzy, intoxicating and distorting cuts of refreshingly high quality. There are moody and percussive dancefloor workouts, of course - see "Funny Games", the acid-fired "Let's Play" and metallic "God Man Dog" - but also a high number of clandestine soundscapes that sit somewhere between Cabaret Voltaire's ambient excursions and some of Throbbing Gristle's more notable beat-free compositions.

Review: British techno veteran Oliver Ho has released some fine material as Broken English Club since debuting the alias back in 2014. The English Beach, Ho's second BEC full-length and first for L.I.E.S, is the audio equivalent of a trip to a run-down North Sea coastal resort on a wet Wednesday in November. Full of end-of-days electronics, stripped-back industrial techno, moody minimal wave shufflers and bubbly EBM workouts, it's as authentic a tribute to early '80s electronic experimentalism as you're likely to hear all year. Highlights include the Nitzer Ebb style bounce of "Pylon", the foreboding, desolate electronica of "Rust Ballad", the angry electro moodiness of "Carrion" and the rolling, organ-laden autumnal bliss of "The English Beach".

Review: Blimey Marcos is on one here! The somewhat morbid title to Cabral's second album for LIES should hint at what to expect from the six tracks within as the New Yorker lays out a masterclass in grinding, sonic bedlam. It's clear Cabral's experiments with the Chemotex project for The Trilogy Tapes have spurred a new level of creativity and darkness in him and it's thrilling to see how far he takes it on Buried Alive Twice. Forget any dancefloor pretences; this album is all about grinding sound design with highlights in the shape of the foreboding stutter of "That's Not A Bathroom" (featuring someone called Suzi) and "Shallows" which sounds like thick globules of acid being attacked by a swarm of locusts.

I Met The Devil (4:23)

Disintegration (5:46)
Review: Last year Cardinal & Nun successfully set their stall out via a decidedly lo-fi cassette of wayward techno, EBM, industrial and new wave fusions. Here the Marseilles-based outfit steps it up a notch via a debut 12" for Ron Morelli's L.I.E.S. label. The four tracks are suitably loose, dark and otherworldly, with title track "I Met The Devil" - a pitch-black fusion of early Joy Division, throbbing new wave and late '70s Cabaret Voltaire - leading the way. "Go Away" sees them apply the same DIY fuzziness to EBM, while "Empoisonne" wraps discordant guitar solos and gravelly vocal snippets around another arpeggio-driven groove. They round things off via "Disintegration", a slower and druggier trip into thrusting, arpeggio-driven territory.

Review: Brazilian producer Fernando Seixlack has previously impressed with a couple of notably punky albums of experimental techno under the Innyster alias. Here he makes his debut for Ron Morelli's esteemed L.I.E.S imprint with a first full-length under his own name. While still as fuzzy, lo-fi and out-there as its predecessors, "Fernando" is a surprisingly melodious and tuneful affair, with Seixlack wrapping glistening - if distorted and pixilated - guitars and trippy synthesizer motifs around bustling machine beats and wayward electronic percussion. At times it touches on electro, at others IDM and more experimental, abstract pursuits; throughout, the album remains both hugely entertaining and pleasingly atmospheric.

Pleasure Sentence
Review: Of all last year's widely lauded releases from the LIES battalion of unusual suspects, it was perhaps Unicursal Hexagram by Jahiliyya Fields that stood out, quite because it sounded like nothing else around. The work of Ron Morelli's close friend Matt Morandi, Jahiliyya Fields now makes a welcome return to LIES with the less comprehensive but no less mind warping sounds of Pleasure Sentence. This record also differs from Morandi's previous LIES release in incorporating more clearly rhythmic elements; the four tracks still sound resolutely like Jahiliyya Fields though and quite like nothing else. "Anon Anon" is perhaps the best example of this as Morandi utilises a solid 4/4 rhythm wrapped in animated analogue tendrils that ripple with gentle energy over its 15-minute running time.

Review: 12 months on from his last outing on Ron Morelli's celebrated L.I.E.S. label, former Napalm Death noisenik Mick Harris once again dons the Fret alias for another exploration of techno's farthest, darkest corners. He hits the ground running with "Slowly Moving In", a polyrhthmic industrial techno workout full of ricocheting, end-of-days electronics and distortion-soaked drums. "The Hill" is, if anything, even more panicked and bone-rattling, as if Harris had re-imagined the soundtrack from notorious Sheffield-based nuclear winter drama "Threads". Over on side B, "Pirates" is a formidably fuzzy and mind-altering attack on the senses, while "Walking With Cameras" adds creepy refrains to one of Harris's weightiest rhythm tracks yet.

Review: After debuting on Clement Meyer's Get The Curse label in late 2012 with the Slow Dance EP, Parisian producer Low Jack has gradually been drawn to the darker hues of the techno spectrum. Following releases for Delsin and In Paradisum, Low Jack now presents his most high-profile - and most experimental - release to date, with Garifuna Variations on L.I.E.S. The genesis of Garifuna Variations dates back to last summer when Low Jack was commissioned to participate in a live performance by Parisian museum Quai Branly. Invited to use the institution's vast library of music, Low Jack based his live set around recordings of the Garifuna people of Honduras, and despite him having no plans to use the music beyond the performance a live recording subsequently piqued the interest of L.I.E.S. boss Ron Morelli. Coaxed into recreating the performance at his studio, the results are described by the label as "rhythmic, tense, and hypnotic electronic music that lives in a grey area many are unwilling to step into."

Review: Since three years have now passed since Rich Oddie and Dave Foster debuted their O/H project on Opal Tapes, this EP is long overdue. As with their previous excursion, "Market Values" is breathlessly intense, offering a toxic, wild and angry fusion of lo-fi techno rhythms, punk attitude and what Ron Morelli has described as "scum electronics". Opener "Media Blitz", for example, is like a slap in the face with an iron anvil, while the more atmospheric "Supply/Demand" is notable not only for its hypnotic, arpeggio-driven rhythm section, but also the "screw capitalism" vibe of its growling spoken word vocal. Elsewhere, "Human Waste" takes lo-fi industrial electro to all new levels of fuzziness, while trippy and dimly lit closer "Poverty Line" could well be the best of the bunch.

Review: First announced more than 12 months ago, Jorge Velez's eight track journey through conceptual synth scapes on Hassan ranks among our most anticipated releases in the L.I.E.S. canon and its final appearance here puts to bed concerns there was some voodoo curse placed on the project. Stricken by pressing plant nightmares, Hassan's impact is not lessened one jot despite the delays, and in fact it probably fits more in line with the current diversity of L.I.E.S. than when it was scheduled to be released anyway. Coming across as a sort of Middle Eastern sonic sibling to the astounding Jahiliyya Fields issue, Professor Genius aka Jorge Velez crafts an intoxicating array of meditative synth explorations with little concern for attempts at beat structure at times. Truly a collection to of tracks to let your turntable spend some time getting to know and there's also the added bonus of an accompanying remix plate brandishing efforts from Steve Summers and his namesake Moore and Runaway don Marcos Cabral that usher the source in the direction of the dancefloor in inimitable L.I.E.S. fashion.

Review: This debut set from Shadowlust further qualifies the notion that LIES use the album format to satisfy Ron Morelli's more esoteric whims. Trust In Pain sees label regular Marquis 'Svengalisghost' Cooper teaming up with Opal Tapes artist Lili '51717' Schulder for an eight track journey through foreboding, industrial soundscapes. Whereas Cooper's solo work has been characterised by a sense of reckless abandon and improvisation, Shadowlust feels more about restraint and the tensile energy that emerges when Schulder's disguised vocals are given the space to filter out. There's little in the way of dancefloor concession here, instead Trust In Pain feels like a compelling exercise in contemporary avant garde electronics.

Review: L.I.E.S latest muscular missive comes courtesy of Dutch scene stalwarts Parrish Smith (previously of Knekelhuis and Dekmantel) and Interstellar Funk (AKA Artificial Dance big cheese Olf van Elden). Rich in machine drums, cranky modular synth sounds and industrial intent, the four-track missive sees them angrily stomp between mind-altering, mid-tempo throb-jobs (the strobe-lit electronics and druggy arpeggio lines of "Misinformation"), buzzing 4/4 electro ("High Gates"), raw, redlined, noise-addled techno ("Macrodosing") and the kind of dark, moody and throbbing dancefloor fare that sits somewhere between angular industrial music and frustrated, lo-fi techno ("Collapsed Buildings"). For want of a better term, this is music for dystopian dancehalls, prorogued parliaments and the children of broken societies.

Review: Last seen next to Jamal Moss on one of Clan Destine's Dark Acid releases, the largely unknown Tsuzing debuts in quite distinctive fashion on LIES with A Name Out Of Place Pt 1. Gripping a quartet of productions, this 12" is, as the title suggests, the first of several records for LIES by Tsuzing, a Shanghai-based producer and resident DJ at the city's Shelter Club. As LIES bullishly claim, there are plenty of records at the moment supposedly influenced by EBM or Industrial music, though it's very apparent in the music Tzusing makes. See the politically loaded samples peppered throughout "1976" or the marauding sense of terror that runs through "Axis Of Revision".

Review: Malaysian-in-Shanghai Tsuzing is one of the more interesting recent additions to the L.I.E.S roster, if only for his interest in blending elements of EBM, industrial and new wave influences with the scuffed house and bleak techno the label is renowned for. There's much to enjoy on the fast-rising producer's second E.P for Ron Morelli's label, not least the clanking, Nitzer Ebb-inspired thump of opener "4 Floors of Whores". Even better is standout "Frankincense & Myrrh", a hellish fusion of riotous rave influences, twisted stabs, thunderous beats and mangled sirens. "Khi-Tang" is a little more subdued, but still deliciously strange and metallic (think Cabaret Voltaire meets Willie Burns, and you're close), while "Odd" is a cacophonous chunk of nightmarish industrial techno.

Review: New York based Shawn O'Sullivan returns with some more Vapauteen heat on LIES!! O'Sullivan is a man of many aliases; as well as exploring new wave sounds as part of Led Er Est and Further Reductions, he has been gaining plaudits for his solo productions under his own name on The Corner, as 400PPM for Avian, and as Vapauteen. Under the latter, O'Sullivan provided one of the most coveted L.I.E.S. white label releases at the beginning of 2012, exploring the industrial techno heritage that has clearly inspired his solo work. Back on LIES with this self titled six track collection, the current Vapauteen manifestation differs from the consistently frenetic pace of his debut for Morelli's label - the A-side sees him engage with slower tempos across three tracks that call to mind Skudge duo Fishermen, while the B-side is "strictly about power electronics and harsh tone work outs".

Review: Mr Beau Wanzer has already been responsible for some memorable music in 2013 as part of both Mutant Beat Dance and Streetwalker, issuing releases on Light Sounds Dark and Cititrax that rank amongst the favourites of the Juno review staff. Having previously appeared on LIES as part of MBD, Wanzer now makes his full debut with this much awaited self titled three track EP. Ever since Ron Morelli dropped it on a Benji B show earlier this year, the clamour for "Balls Of Steel" has steadily grown to boiling point and the track sounds all the more impressive running up the stylus of a 1210 than it does on shoddy iPlayer bitrate. Based around a unique vocal hook, Wanzer's basically done a Florian Kupfer and delivered unto LIES a hit track that shouldn't really be a hit track. The functional rhythmic nature of "Balls Of Steel" is replicated in the scratchy "Two Orders" whilst "Outside Auto" is a lumbering EBM number reminiscent of Wanzer's work with Traxx.
