Lil' Dog Toes (4:40)
Think About It (Richard Devine remix) (5:36)
Review: The Bossfyte duo come through with their debut EP on Detroit Underground, and it's on 7" format for all the boogie collectors to reminisce over. The pair had thus far released only a couple of mixes and we hadn't really heard their studio skills until now, a subaquatic blend of sounds for the more skilful DJ. "Lil Dog Toes" is a fine Michigan special, a tune that finds its form amid blurry electro shots and twists itself into a slow-paced techno bruiser, complete with morphed and detuned vocal samples.

Review: The Detroit Underground label has truly seen a revival as of late, but it's a good thing they have because they're fast-becoming one of the hottest labels on our shelves. Although they've been going string since the late '90s, they've moulded their sound into more contemporary shades thanks to the help of artists such as Kyle Hall and Kero. For their latest release they've chosen Spanish techno veteran Exium to deliver four abrasive, acid-laced dancefloor numbers. From "True Force" to "Monolith", the mood is gloomy but the sounds are warm and straight out of the mothership, the whole EP sounds like being in the underbelly of a power station in a desolate industrial area. Lovely.

Oceans 1300
Taipei
Review: Detroit Underground put out wildly variant musical styles on their label, from minimal to house, techno and electro - they certainly can't be genre pigeon-holed! This release comes from Swedish duo Kritical Audio and spans through the aforementioned genres and at moments even into dubstep, breaks and D&B territory. Moody, mind-tripping journeys are intricately created on Katacomb through eerie synths, deep glitchy 303 basslines and arresting electro rhythms. "Bugsmasher" rides electro punches and pounding 303s while the title track finds itself with a low slung, dubstep feeling. "Oceans 1300" meanwhile explores yet another route with emotive synths and tight percussion, while the spaced out atmospherics of "Taipei" round off an excellent 12".

Review: We will likely never know what it is that makes the underground electronic scene in Detroit so fertile and unique. Whoever appears from the Motor City, they seem to have their own unique sound but one that very much gets with the historic aesthetic of the 313 area code. Enter Derek Michael who keeps up that tradition with this excellent six tracker on Detroit Underground, which arrives on nice coloured wax. His take on house end techno is deep, raw, unhurried. His drums stay low on 'Cruise Control' while the grinding bass locks you in and unsettling synths hang in the air above. 'No U Turn' is heavy and lumpy with off-grid chords adding to the loveable wonkiness.

Review: Some sonic communities grow even in isolation, in the lonely obsessive moments in the studio as time melts away. Deep inside the Detroit Underground nests a Berlin underground, chasing those resonant shared sounds. DU Berlin draws together some of that love felt through music in the German capital. It's not the wild city of reunification or *Berlin Calling* or tourist-style movies or the easyJet set. This is the side of the city that endlessly romances machines for the sheer joy of it, as The Allegorist titles her track, "until dawn." And with some big names and emerging, ranging from mainstays to veteran agitators, the Berlin DU crew have telegraphed each other through productions and mutual inspiration. The results vibrate and rumble with sympathetic frequencies, but never limited to grayscale or dithered palettes.
