Review: Soanish mega-label Blanco Y Negro continues to reissue rather good, but frequently overlooked, gems from its vast archives. This one, from German-Spanish synth-pop band Cetu Javu, dates from 1992 and sees the combo combine their early Depeche Mode-esque vocals and synth sounds with nods to the more driving, peak-time ready sounds of European house music. That's best exemplified by the opening 'Remix' version of title track 'Dame Tu Mano', which also comes in the moody synth-pop style 'Extended Mix'. Over on the flip, we get the chiming melodies, mid-80s Pet Shop Boys grooves and Euro-dance bleeps of 'Una Mujer (remix)' and the Bobby Orlando-meets-Shep Pettibone fun of 'Tempo (remix)'.

Review: Bologna-born Christina Montanari released her fourth single 'Love Is Like A Bird' in 1988 on Italy's BMS Records, and it now surfaces as a fizzing, artifactual slice of Italo-disco hi-NRG. Passing go at around six minutes in its extended form, it slickly blends glimmering synths and filterpassed gilt electric guitars, doing an impressively subtle job of fusing the little-cited contemporaneity of goth and Italo. Montanari's voice is reminiscent of Kate Bush, at times descending into a heartsick yarl, and at others acceding to soaringly high flight displays.

Review: Dandy was the alias of choice of Italian singer Alessandre Persone, who collaborated with a string of producers to craft Hi-NRG and 'Eurobeat'-powered synth-pop hits between 1987-91. 'For Your Heart' dates from 1989. Rooted in the kind of sing-along, Hi-NRG pop pioneered by Bobby Orlando but developed commercially by Stock, Aitiken and Waterman, the song is a genuine earworm and comes complete with weighty, arpeggio-driven bass, echoing drum fills and classic Italo-disco style stabs. The killer version is the EP leading, extended 'Mix version', though plenty will also reach for the jaunty and heavy instrumental take. The short bonus 'MYOM version' is a DJ tool that cycles through various riffs and echoing vocal snippets.

Blanco Y Negro has assembled no fewer than three whole CDs worth of the stuff and managed to include every sub-genre imaginable. Pop disco, hi-nrg, Italo disco, 80s house, nu-disco and plenty in between are all covered with aplomb. There are stone-cold classics like The Human League's 'Don't You Want Me', Grandmaster Flash & Melle Mel's 'White Lines (Don't Don't Do It)' and The Human League's 'Don't You Want Me' as well as a few equally fun but slightly less ubiquitous jams.

Review: Spanish label Blanco Y Negro has got some irresistibly uplifting trance on its hands here from Italian Levy 9 in collaboration with Patty Dart. We can't quite work out whether this is a new tune from a mid-90s outfit or a reissue of their work from back then, but either way it is going to get your hands in the air and tears in your eyes such is the emotional overload of the synths in both tunes. The tunes come as remixes by Street 9 remix, a D-Floorfiller mix and an extended mix with big chords and catchy Euro-dance vocals.

Review: Blanco Y Negro continues to unearth and reissue Italo-disco and Euro-disco gems from the mid-to-late 1980s, frequently breathing new life into them via fresh reworks and colourful vinyl pressings. That's the case here, as Eddy Mi Ami and DJ TinTin take it in turns to rework both tracks from the Italian twosome's 1986 debut single on a rather fetching splattered red and white vinyl pressing. On side A it's all about title track 'Coming Up'. Eddy Mi Ami steps up first, adding a touch of Italo-dance energy while retaining many of the elements from Ross's original mix, before DJ TinTin delivers a warmer, glossier and more melodious Italo-disco take. Over on the flip, Eddy Mi Ami turns original B-side 'Buscame' into a bleeping, surging and fizzing Italo-dance stomper, while DJ TinTin provides a smoother and more sun-soaked interpretation of the same track.

Review: Many Italo-disco enthusiasts tend to focus on the formative years of the sound, though by the time the second half of the 1980s was in full swing crossover "Italo" hits were becoming more frequent. Ross's 1986 debut single falls into that category. Here, both cuts from the original release are given the 2025 remix treatment - though all assembled mixes sound like they could have been made at the tail end of the 80s. Side A brings us two takes on title track 'Coming Up', with Eddy Mi Ami's bold, trance-tinged Italo-dance interpretation being followed by a more melodious Italo-disco rework courtesy of DJ TinTin. With its pounding basslines and vibrant synths unfurling into infectious melodies, this is the sort of tune that embodies the quintessential 80s Italian club sound-catchy, bright and built for the 'floor. This reissue stays true to the original with both 'Forever and a Day' on the A-side and its full vocal dub version, 'Forever and Two Days,' on the flip. It's a real piece of quality and authentic Italo magic that still hits the spot.

Review: Blanco Y Negro have dug into the archives again for another timely reissue of some classic hi-NRG disco. Thomas & Schubert very much fit in with the camp Euro-dance sound on the late 80s and early 90s. 'Little Flowers' features their thin, icy vocals soaring over super happy chords and bright, dazzling synth smears that light up the airwaves with an Italo touch. As well as an extended version of the original, the MYOM version tweaks things for modern dance floors and a 7" version and instrumental complete this fulsome package.

Review: Judith Aguila Fuster aka Yuhniversia is on to her sixth EP for Blanco Y Negro, though her new one 'Exoplanet' comes a good five years after 2020's last. Her style has been Italo-discoified, and steady on the reuptake: 'Bolero' and a corresponding future Italo remix from Nemowave cement the mood of implacable future relentlessness, with strident sidechain exhales abounding in the latter version especially. The original track is hard to fault too, its soda pop acids and hard panned toms indicating that this planet is a habitable, outer spatial endogenous zone.
