The number of hardware samplers to choose from might be small compared to their 1990s heyday, but there are still plenty of options available. The Teenage Engineering PO33 KO is probably the smallest and most affordable of the lot, coming in at under £100 for a fun little instrument which can play back sequences and sample directly via a built-in microphone. As you get more advanced, samplers from brands including 1010 Music, Roland and Korg offer much more serious features such as performance pads and full song sequencing with effects. Whichever you choose, sampling remains a key component of genres like house, hip-hop and techno.

Supplier's Notes:
Timetosser is the first of its kind. An innovative hybrid between an audio effect and electronic musical instrument, enabling you to playfully reorder any audio signal in real-time.

Real-time sound mangling is the name of the game. Timetosser automatically detects the tempo of the incoming audio, samples it and chops it to length ready for re-triggering. Create new rhythms on the fly by actively playing the instrument, or let Timetosser serve you loops and slices of your live audio. By combining Timetosser with a classic DJ set-up, much value can be added to any stage act. Furthermore, Timetosser can be hooked up to any device, giving you much artistic freedom. From drum machines to modular synthesizers, from a single layer on your mixer (e.g. basslines, vocals, drums..) to the master output. By adding Timetosser, you instantly gain a unique live effect by adding variety to your tracks and loops.

How does it work?

Standalone - Use the tap-tempo key to tap in sync with the music. From this, Timetosser learns the length of 1/4, 1/8 and 1/16 notes, as well as their triplets.

MIDI IN - Another option is to sync to midi-clock. By connecting the supplied mini-jack to DIN-5 adapter cable to the sync input, Timetosser is able to synchronise to an incoming midi-clock signal.

Analog Gate - The sync input also supports analogue gate voltages. To use analogue gate sync, just connect a standard mono mini-jack cable to the sync input directly.

MIDI OUT - Having both a MIDI-input and output means these will be usable from within your DAW software when Timetosser is connected to your computer. But the true advantage comes when Timetosser is used in standalone-mode. Since Timetosser detects the tempo of the incoming audio, the MIDI-output can be used to send out that tempo. This means you can synchronise your MIDI-gear and have them play in time with anything you feed into Timetosser. Alter Audio are very excited about the possibilities this brings: blur the lines between deejaying and live performing by having synths and drum machines play alongside your tracks.

By pressing any of the keys of the upper row, you basically select a delay that is a multiple of the selected note length. By playing patterns using the upper keys, you can keep changing the delay time (in real-time!) in a way that you can repeat a note, or change the order of the music entirely.

Audio Plugin / USB connectivity

Besides being a standalone device, Timetosser can also be connected to your computer. This way, it becomes a USB MIDI interface and controller for the Timetosser audio plugin (VST & AU).

Timetosser's firmware can be upgraded through USB with the application that is downloadable from the support page.

The audio plugin is a virtual Timetosser that can be dropped as an effect on an audio track in your DAW. One of up to eight plugin instances can be selected and controlled from the hardware unit.

Critter & Guitari Kaleidoloop Customisable Sound Collector & Looper
Cat: 1014965 Rel: 06 Jun 24

Customisable sound collector & looper
Notes: Lovely creative stuff here from the ever-reliable Critter & Guitari. Based on the idea of 'collecting' sounds, the Kaleidoloop allows you to record, loop and layer, manipulating in real time and saving to internal memory for later processing.

Supplier's Notes:
The Critter & Guitari Kaleidoloop is a compact yet powerful looper designed for musicians seeking unparalleled creative exploration.

With its intuitive interface, you'll find it easy to manipulate and layer loops, and craft intricate soundscapes on the fly. Featuring a variety of playback modes and effects, the Kaleidoloop offers endless sonic possibilities. Discover new textures, harmonies and rhythms in your favourite sounds.

Rugged construction ensures reliability - making it an essential tool for capturing and manipulating sounds on the go or in the studio.

Everything you record with the Kaleidoloop is saved to internal memory and is easily accessible from your computer.

Whether you're a seasoned performer or just starting your musical journey, the Critter & Guitari Kaleidoloop is your gateway to boundless musical adventures.

Key feature:

Let's (Inter-)face it... you can do a lot with a little!

The Kaleidoloop features six playback modes, a record button, and track navigation buttons. While compact in design, these controls offer extensive capabilities.

Start with a fresh recording - use the microphone to capture anything from drums to acoustic guitar, the radio, to random ambient sounds in your home. The sound will begin playing in a loop. Use the playback mode button and the two playback controls to manipulate the sound. The Kaleidoloop ships with six playback modes: three speed manipulation modes, and three effects.

The playback modes are coded in Pure Data. Users can create their own modes or upload modes shared with the community. Modes utilize two control knobs. Craft new edits by adjusting the control knobs and/or selecting different playback modes.

Evolving Sound

Sonic Journey

Playback continues during recording. With the microphone & speaker combo you can build on existing tracks in any or all of the following ways:

Select different playback Modes
Use Knobs to change mode parameters
Play different recordings
Adjust the volume of the playback

...so something as straightforward as a single guitar chord strum can get looped, stretched in time, reversed, have a melody recorded over it, effected, reversed again, sped up, and so forth. Along the way, each recording is saved so you can revisit that musical idea at any time and/or save it to your computer for further creation.

Microphone & Speaker

Capture the Room/Get in Close - Fill the Air/Whisper

The microphone is clear. The speaker gets loud. How to use them is up to you! The Kaleidoloop's hardware lets it flip between 'documenting the space' to being an instrument adding its sound to the world.

It is flexible in this regard: want to record everyone in the jam or focus on the drums?... position the Kaleidoloop mic accordingly. During playback - do you want its speaker to be a major feature or more of an accent in the mix? Dial up the volume and playback modes to suit!

Portability

Battery Power = Creative Power

Get out of the studio, off the couch, etc., and explore the wide world of sound!
With battery power, take the Kaleidloop anywhere and everywhere and collect any sound and every sound!

File Freedom

Disk Mode makes it easy to manage modes and tracks.

The USB-C port is used for both power and data transfer. Connect to your computer and copy your recordings for posterity and/or additional editing.

Playback modes can be swapped out for different ones. Maybe you want six effects or perhaps a variety of speed control modes - either is possible!

You can also copy existing audio files onto Kaleidoloop. Use these files as the beginnings of new tracks or use Kaleidloop's modes as a way to re-envision and remix your prior tracks!

Combining vintage sound with modern features, the S2400 draws heavily on the iconic Emu SP1200 to create a new instrument with a distinctive character. One of the best samplers money can buy.

Supplier's Notes:
A legend, reborn.

The S2400 is nothing short of a passion project. Along with a small team of talented Software Engineers, CAD Engineers and revered artists, Isla Instruments have developed a future classic.

The S2400 is a passion project - to recreate the sound of one of the world's most iconic sampling drum machines, and bring it up-to-date with modern features. The result is the very best of old school and new school technology coming together.

Brad has been obsessed with drum machines for many years - owning, repairing, restoring, modifying countless makes and models (see his HR-16 mods on YouTube).

Staying true to form in both sonic characteristics and design aesthetic were the main drivers in the realisation of this project, while bringing the hardware into the 21st Century and keeping the same 'instant gratification' and intuitiveness of its spiritual pre-predecessor at heart.

A machine built for the now and the future.

Notes: *** B-STOCK: Box opened, but product is in excellent condition and in perfect working order ***

Limited retro version of Sonicware's 12-bit sampling workstation. Channel vintage MPC vibes with modern features like continuous background recording and an array of digital effects.

Supplier's Notes:
Key Features

1) 12/24kHz Early-Digital Sound Sampling

Experience true 12kHz/24kHz sampling combined with the 12-bit Sampler mode, which transforms any sound into a pleasant Early-Digital sound, much like the legendary 12-bit samplers of yesteryear.

Each sample can be up to 40 seconds in length, and you can store as many samples as your SD card capacity allows. From these, you can load up to 256 samples (64MB) into a single project, seamlessly switching between samples during playback.

Samples can also be played using PAD mode, utilizing all 15 pads as a keyboard for chromatic/scale play. You can also chop samples to create and play individual slices within a single track.

2) Intuitive & Non-stop Beat Making

The powerful 8-track sequencer supports un-quantized recording and non-stop editing, allowing you to create tracks and beats in real-time as you hit the pads.

With parameter locking, dynamic parameter recording is a breeze - simply press the REC button and tweak the knobs. You can also input exact values directly using the step buttons.

Using the D-pad Roll, you can choose between 7 re-trigger divisions from 8th to 64th notes, while controlling velocity by a pad pressure.

A single project consists of 128 patterns and 16 songs. It can be used not only for song production, but also for long live performances by connecting songs with non-stop editing and various MUTE modes.?

3) Powerful Signal Processing & Extensive Sample Libraries

Simultaneously utilize 8 track effects, delay, reverb, and master compressor to craft diverse sounds.

Track effects can be selected from 22 effect types, and the master compressor can be side-chained. (Can be switched to the master filter for performance.)

The included SD card contains 2,500+ samples from legendary drum machines like TR-808/909, LM-1, linndrum, DMX, Drumulator, SP-12, Drumtraks and TOM*, to ready-to-use the Early-Digital Sound samples.

4) Effortless Background Mix-Tape Recording

The Mix-Tape recording feature continuously captures all your performances in the background up to three hours.

Recording quality can be selected from six levels, from the lo-fi recording quality of a micro-cassette tape to high quality recording at 48 kHz-16 bit, the same recording quality as DAT.

Whether you're mixing down tracks, recording live performances in their entirety, or extracting choice beats and phrases from your daily jams, you will have a continually expanding resource of your sounds and music at your fingertips.

5) Versatile Connectivity with Other Devices

Import and export audio files via USB or SD card. The Lofi-12XT's unique file convert feature ensures typical audio files with differing sampling bit/rates are transformed into the signature Lofi-12 Sounds.

Connect a wide variety of audio sources, from dynamic microphones, electric guitars/bass, synthesizers, and even USB audio sources from PC/Mac or Smartphones.

With TRS analogue inputs and outputs, digital outputs via USB, and tempo sync through MIDI or audio sync, the Lofi-12XT seamlessly integrates with DAWs and various other devices.

The latest system version 2 adds a much-requested pattern chain function that will be a great asset for live performances or music production. The lineup has also become more colourful with the new metallic red model. And Korg have also provided bonus patterns that reveal even greater sonic potential.

The Loop mode allows you to record a loop of up to 16 beats, play patterns during that recording and have the Timetosser loop that, or remix a recorded loop like you would do in the original Live mode. The Slicer mode allows you to make slices of a recorded loop and play those slices on top of the live audio in MPC style. Overall a very quick and easy way to make live samples of your ongoing audio.

Next to that, Alter Audio have added a full set of new preset patterns which auto-remix your music by adding in a bit of beat shuffling, some nice offbeat timings and drop in the odd mute and reverse within the pattern.

Nice to know: The update brings Apple silicon support for the Mac version of the VST3 plugin as well.

Supplier's Notes:
Timetosser is the first of its kind. An innovative hybrid between an audio effect and an electronic musical instrument, enabling you to playfully reorder any audio signal in real-time.

The novelty of Timetosser lies in the way it is used: the user is not simply enabling an effect, but has to actively and skillfully play the instrument in order to yield good results. By combining Timetosser with a classic DJ set-up, much value can be added to any stage act. Furthermore, Timetosser can be hooked up to any device, giving you much artistic freedom. From drum machines to modular synthesizers, from a single track on your mixer (e.g. guitar, vocals, drums .. ) to the master output.

Analog Gate - The sync input also supports analog gate voltages. To use analog gate sync, just connect a standard mono mini-jack cable to the sync input directly.

We're very excited about the possibilities this brings: blur the lines between deejaying and live performing by having synths and drum machines play alongside your tracks!

By pressing any of the keys of the upper row, the player basically selects a delay that is a multiple of the selected note length. By playing patterns using the upper keys , we can keep changing the delay time in a way that we can repeat a note, or change the order of the music entirely.
