Serenity EP
Cat: PRRUKBLK 121. Rel: 21 Nov 24
Chord Expression (5:29)
Borderlands (4:58)
Fallout (5:33)
Serenity (6:24)
Review: You always know what you're gunna get with Planet Rhythm and that is classically inclined techno that is economical in design but never less than high impact. Antic Soul contributes to that fine legacy with this new EP which opens with the high speed and dubby techno lushness of 'Crd Expression' before 'Borderlands' gets more raved up and injected with some raw textures and wobbly stabs. 'Fallout' is wall-rattling, panel-beating dub techno and 'Serenity' is more icy and nimbler, with bouncy drums and stabs all making you move your body at the whim of the machines.

Amphibian Velocity EP
Amphibian Velocity EP (grey smoke vinyl 12")
Cat: DRLDV 001. Rel: 17 Apr 25
Sonus (7:01)
Deviate (feat Ronald Nels) (6:17)
Amphibian Velocity (6:53)
Crashing Rhythms (6:53)
Review: This is the first in a new collaborative series between Derailed Records and Planet Rhythm who have teamed up for a new vinyl series that launches with Rotterdam's ARKVS. 'Sonus' rumbles with low-end threat and fizzy static that locks you in the moment. 'Deviate (feat Ronald Nels)' is more sparse with claps echoing out to an event horizon as supple acid tones linger in the air. 'Amphibian Velocity' layers up gurgling synths and pent-up drum tension and 'Crashing Rhythms' is a punchy but deep closer and a fourth and final evocative and sophisticated offering which gets this series underway in style.

Nocturnal (5:36)
Proximity (6:22)
Antimatter (6:22)
Exomoon (6:36)
Review: Netherlands outfit Planet Rhythm continues to fulfil their stated mission to explore the boundaries of dance music, and to 'design the future', with releases from talents whose music testifies the idea that techno is too big of a concept to be limited to a single idea. Yan Cook is one such talent in their eyes; his latest for PR's limited black labels series hears four laconic, calculative and dark techno numbers play back in cold step, like a one-track space probe feeling its way through a planetary ring of ice. Cook's sci-fi theme is inhospitable, with his take on the presence of 'Antimatter' in the universe amounting to a kind of fearful metallic object grating away in an echoic chamber; and 'Exomoon', which conjures the image of said celestial anomaly via frigidly bleak pads and starkly reverberative yawps and drum machines. A chilling vision of an exodic space-faring future, perhaps once in which we've been stripped of our humanities entirely.

Catalyst EP

Catalyst (5:44)
Ineffable (5:16)
Luminescence (5:30)
Penumbra (5:43)
Review: Planet Rhythm help lay down 'Catalyst', the latest from producer DBFB. Four ineffable techno cuts are heard in quick synchrony, be they the title track or, yes, 'Ineffable' on the A - both evincing that mercilessly uniform feel of ultra-mechanised, ultra-fantastical, ultra-formal techno - or 'Penumbra' and 'Luminescence' on the B, which open up the floodgates ever so slightly to reveal just a hint of ricocheting light.

Fatia (5:08)
Lupulo (4:55)
Not About (5:01)
80's Moove (5:28)
Review: If there is one planet we would like to spend some time on, it's Planet Rhythm. For techno lovers, it is one of the finest out there thanks to its consistently high quality, fad-free output. Kaiobarssalos is next to add to the cannon with this uptempo and stripped-back EP. 'Fatia' is all twisted and unsettling synth motifs, 'Lupulo' gets glitchy and 'Not About' is packed with unresolved loops that keep you on edge, and last of all some of the pent-up pressure is released through the more smooth but still banging deep techno trip that is closer '80's Moove'.

Behind The Chord (5:02)
Atreides (5:08)
Dune (4:54)
House Planet (4:59)
Review: Medellin producer Marck D (Charlie Escobar) is a new Planet Rhythm poster child, though his digital releasing repertoire is nonetheless colossal even without them, his many affairs including Illegal Alien, Phobiq and IAMT. Shocker it is, then, that 'Dune' is Escobar's first ever 12"; the record brings ultraphonic chord slurries ('Behind The Chord') and federated, intergalactic-dynastic codes of techno honour ('Atreides'), riding the sand-wormed thematics of the Frank Herbert sci-fi classic.

90's Acidcore (5:38)
Impulsive Mass (5:58)
Tribal Ritual (5:55)
Like The Heaven (7:25)
Review: You know what you're going to get from Planet Rhythm: banging techno that is made like it used to be. The eponymous production outfit is behind this latest offering and opener '90's Acidcore' is perfectly summed up by its title: heavy drums, manic acid, and scintillating percussion. 'Impulsive Mass' is more frosty, panel-beating techno brutalism and 'Tribal Ritual' throws it back to the golden era of video game soundtracks like Wipeout. Just for funsies, 'Like The Heaven' chucks some dusty breakbeats into the mix as well as the acid and steel percussion.

Attitude Era (5:31)
Rampage (5:48)
Berlin Platz (4:39)
Blade Core (7:49)
Review: The latest instalment in Planet Rhythm's series of limited-edition EPs arrives with no information whatsoever, meaning that the artist behind it has decided (for now, at least) to remain anonymous. What we can tell you, though, is that the four tracks on offer deliver breathlessly heavy, raw, and no-holds-barred techno of the sort that may have emerged from the Netherlands and Belgium in the early 90s. Check first opener 'Attitude Era', where UK rave style breakbeats and hip-hop samples usher in a pounding beat, doom-laden bassline and razor-sharp acid tweakery, before admiring the locked-in acid techno hypnotism of 'Rampage'. Over on side B, 'Berlin Platz' sees the mystery producer add melancholic melodic motifs to another blistering beat, while 'Blade Core' is a twisted, rap-sampling stomper smothered in trippy electronics.

Side Effects EP

Radiation (5:35)
Side Effects (5:07)
Black Holes (5:33)
Drift (5:13)
Review: Red Rooms is back on Planet Rhythm not long after his last outing here back in April. Once again here these tunes will get any crowd up on their toes and locked in for some serious techno shapes. 'Radiation' is pure heads down tunnel vision techno tackle. 'Side Effects' layer sup warming solar winds with well programmed drums that almost tumble over one another they are so quickened. 'Black Holes' has a darker vibe with cosmic keys peeling off the beats and 'Drift' brings some muscular techno funk. A versatile EP.

One Night In Athens EP
One Night In Athens EP (white vinyl 12")
Cat: PRRUKWHT 011. Rel: 14 Jul 22
In Version (6:39)
One Night In Athens (6:16)
Rainbow Dub (6:14)
The Healer (6:52)
Review: The Planet Rhythm White series is all about serious dance floor business. It now welcomes back Senh for four cuts of well designed and stripped back but effective techno. Opener 'In Version' is a dubby one that leans into the wind as well crafted synth smears bring scale and mood. 'One Night In Athens' pairs things back even more to an icy dub, with perfectly frictionless drums, airy pads and echoing claps that are brilliantly wet. 'Rainbow Dub' is more spangled and high tempo in its onward journey though no less hypnotic and 'The Healer' closes on a classic Maurizio style vibe.

Stardust (6:19)
Rhydonium (5:20)
1309 (5:38)
Review: SND & RTN's Stardust EP on Planet Rhythm delivers six exemplary tracks of dub techno with crisp production and deep influenced classic sound. Side-1 opens with 'Stampersgat,' a deep dub techno soundscape featuring wall-shaking bass, crisp percussion, and an island feel that transports listeners to a tropical haven. 'D55' follows with an airy, bright dub groove, blending elements of house and Balearic chill-out, and is characterised by its heavy use of chords. Side-2 offers 'Rhydonium,' showcasing a snappy, clean groove with meandering, metallic chords and heavy echo. Stardust EP highlights SND & RTN's ability to blend deep, resonant basslines with intricate percussion and atmospheric elements, resulting in a well-rounded collection of tracks.

Last To Act
Overcall
Places
All In
Review: We're always happy to be in the orbit of Planet Rhythm and this time Stipp and Genex lure us in for a dancefloor collision with their macho techno tools. 'Last To Act' is a big old wall of drums and percussive loops with a funky rhythm and 'Overcall' is pure mind music with its twisted, silken synths and ever-present drum pressure. 'Places' keeps things upright and punchy with cantering kicks and whirring machine sounds and 'All In; shuts down with a jacked-up mix of analogue drums and deep-sonar pulses. It makes for quite the thrill.

Dub 3 EP
Dub 3 EP (white vinyl 12")
Cat: PRRUKDUB 003. Rel: 16 Sep 22
Erdem Yetim - "Perfect Silence" (7:00)
Simone Tavazzi - "Pyramid" (7:55)
Lenny San - "Das Ego" (5:25)
Dave Simon - "Dubby Stomper" (5:44)
Review: Planet Rhythm's third transmission is another various artists' affair that takes no prisoners. This is straight-ahead techno that is proud of its perfect planed linear loops and ability to get you in a mediative head space. Erdem Yetim kicks off with the seriously weighty 'Perfect Silence' and its panel-beaten loops. Simone Tavazzi's 'Pyramid' is another hefty kicker with icy hi hat ringlets and fleshy drums while 'Das Ego' is as good as reductive dub techno gets. Dave Simon hits the nail on the head with his 'Dubby Stomper.'
