His dexterous guitar work, often feeling as if multiple players are involved, pairs seamlessly with his soothing, almost meditative voice. Tracks like 'Pay Day', 'Louis Collins', 'Spike Driver's Blues', and 'Make Me a Pallet on Your Floor' showcase his ability to transform folk and blues traditions into something uniquely personal. He even delivers a rare but successful slide guitar performance on 'Talking Casey'. A particularly stunning moment comes in 'Beulah Land', where his intricate cross-rhythms add new emotional depth to a traditional song. Review: Esteemed rock guitarist Andy Fairweather Low first came to prominence in 1967 with a cover version of 'Gin House Blues', Bessie Smith's 1928 original. He then went on to front the psychedelic rock band Amen Corner, marking a surprising shift in genre ambit. With the latter move rendering Low's early bluings relatively obscure, The Last Music Company gladly announce the early blues treads of this master musician's all-pervading influence on music, here with this new selected hits compilation. There are many collaborating musicians indebted to Low, and who yet owe him more than one drink: BB King, Van Morrison, Pete Townsend, Jimi Hendrix, Chris Rea and Kate Bush, to name a few. Review: Everyone's favourite former train-riding hobo Seasick Steve is a master on his twangy old, busted up and scrappy guitar. It lends his music that authentic edge next to his gravelling vocals and aching blues-rock sounds. Although some of his albums have been recorded in a fancier studio, this was a back to basics approach recorded on a 16 track 2" tape machine so it retains that realness that defines his best work. It is a strictly vinyl only release with great riffs, grooves and melodies margin for plenty of classic Seasick Steve tracks such as 'Put That In Your Pipe,' 'How Do You Do' and 'Train Wreck'.

Review: From their low-key discovery through the Sahel Sounds label via a leap to Third Man and now on to Matador, the rise and rise of Mdou Moctar has been a marvel to behold, albeit not exactly surprising. Led by Mahamadou Souleymane but now framed as a quartet, their Tuareg desert blues sound has a sharper bite than similarly popular acts like Tinariwen which responds very well to a bigger production. Long time fans fear not, the spark of Souleymayne's songwriting and playing is intact, but there's a vibrancy to tracks like 'Imouhar' and 'Funeral For Justice' as they play with dynamics and tension which bring an exciting new dimension to desert blues.
