Review: To wrap up the year, W133 collates and releases its second Various Artists number, featuring a diverse lineup of emerging and established artists from its ambit. Kicking off this flavoursome, crunchy wonk-techno treat is the French producer Monibi, who proffers a groovy, bass-heavy breakbeat track entitled 'Mahsa Amini', intended as a a call to fight for women's rights, not only in Iran but around the world. On A2, San Francisco-based Kudeki showcases her love for tripped-out techno with 'Cursive'. Then on the flip, label head Pino PeNa teams up with Samwho from Rotterdam, delivering a percussive power workout. 'Jacarandas', named after the purple trees in CDMX, channels aptly Latin American vibes and rhythms, while for the EP's closer, speed-dembow heavyweight Siu Mata delivers a fast-hitting tribal bomb called 'Dubiquity,' which uplifts the listener by way of dramatic pads and spaced-out percussions. The release is, as always, complemented by pictures taken by analogue photographer Freya Gerz.
