Review: Jackie Edwards' 'His 'Do You Love Me' is a pure good vibes only roots reggae roller, with laid back drums and bass that sit in one another perfectly. Plenty of rousing organ chords ring out with great self delight as soothing melodies take off to the stars. Flip it over for a head melting, knob twirling remix that makes use of a vast mixing desk to bring out the dub goodness.
Review: Jackie Mittoo was an organ and piano talent who not only founded seminal Jamaican reggae group The Skatellites but also turned out a fantastic body of work under his own name. He was a member of other groups such as The Soul Brothers, Soul Vendors and The Sound Dimension, all of which were defined at least in part by his magic work on the keys. This album brings together some of the legend's finest tunes from across the ages, all of which were recorded with legendary producer Bunny Lee, mostly in the 1970s.
Cold Blood Rock (aka In Cold Blood) (bonus track) (2:19)
Review: The uninitiated might not be that familiar with Jackie Mittoo, but suffice it to say he is one of the many unsung superheroes of the Jamaican music scene. A towering figure who played a key role in the development of reggae, his skills as a keyboardist and musical arranger are second to none. He was a supremely expressive player who mastered the organ and thus gave shape to ska at Studio One, roots reggae at Channel One, and lover's rock at Wackies in New York UB40 in the UK. Showcase is a superb display of his skills that came on Bunny Lee's own imprint Jackpot in 1977.
Review: Ultra rare 1971 Canadian debut from Studio One keyboard king, for the first time on CD! Over the years many have paid tribute to the dynamic range and skill for the late, great Jackie Mittoo. From the emergence of ska right through to rocksteady and the boss sounds of reggae, he was front and centre - a pivotal figure and a sharp move-maker. "Wishbone"’s 12 songs reach far beyond the island rhythms of reggae and into the realms of stone cold soul, funk, gospel and r&b - an indication of the eclectic sounds that ruled the action-packed live music scene of Toronto in the day. As one of the first Jamaican-Canadian albums to hit the 70s marketplace, "Wishbone" was a pioneering move from a recent immigrant. Criminally undocumented and kept a sweet soul secret by record collectors until now!
