Bruit Blanc & Moodeep - "Sunshine" (5:26)
Ohm & TM Shuffle - "We Penetrate Them" (8:09)
Atart - "JNVPE" (Genning remix) (7:08)
DJ <3 - "Uyar" (7:29)
Review: MixCult present another various artists 12" of sleek minimal tech and dub tech grooves for discerning DJs, leading in with the shimmering metallic cloudbursts of Bruit Blanc and Moodeep's 'Sunshine'. Ohm & TM Shuffle follow that up with the dreamy, rainy day deepness of 'We Penetrate Them' before Genning remixes Atart's 'JNVPE' into a tightly-wound tripper for the late hours of the dance. DJ <3 gets to send the record off in style with 'Uyar', a contemplative cut laced with downcast synth undulations and a steady-ticking rhythmic undercarriage. If you prefer your 4/4 with a liberal side serving of introspection, this is the record for you.

Martin Jarl - "Weetabix" (2024 Remaster) (8:00)
Yagya - "Gogur Dagur" (6:25)
Ohm & Octal Industries - "Chanti's Dream" (7:02)
Paolo Zuliani - "Facing Reality" (6:36)
Review: As you probably know, Lempuyang is a vital techno label that puts out a lot of music. Amongst that is the annual compilation series which again in 2024 is split over a pair of 12"s. Pura Lempuyang Telu Part 1 is packed with new material as well as a cult cut from the vaults that has been remastered. That is Martin Jarl's deliciously deep 'Weetabix' while Yagya keeps it heady with 'Gogur Dagur', Ohm & Octal Industries lay down icy dub techno on 'Chanti's Dream' and Paolo Zuliani's 'Facing Reality' is a more upright and steely closer.

Anton Kubikov - "When Is Deep" (7:54)
Ohm & Octal Industries - "Aureola" (5:35)
Thor - "Who Stole My Yacht" (7:12)
SCSI9 - "Aetherius" (8:04)
Review: The latest release on AE Recordings showcases a whole host of excellent producers versed in the language of icy Scandinavian techno. Anton Kubikov is up first with the forlorn leads and dubby ripples of "When Is Deep", which is followed up by a wonderfully dusty deep house locomotive from Ohm & Octal Industries. Thor gets into a strident micro house groove on "Who Stole My Yacht", peppering the swung drums with plenty of immersion chamber echoes and pings. SCSI9 makes a welcome return to close the record out with "Aetherius", a classic minimal tech house bouncer with plenty of spooky atmospherics on top of the mid-00s flavoured synth hooks.

Static (6:05)

Sedna (5:26)
Timelaps (5:11)
Review: The much celebrated return of Thule continues to yield high grade delights from the frosty plains of Icelandic dub techno, this time heralding the return of the mighty Octal Industries who pair up with Ohm for a masterclass in immersive, expressive trips to the outer reaches. The particular twist on classic dub techno to be found on this record feels both familiar and utterly original at the same time, rich with subtle detail and yet still cavernous in its execution. There's a housey lurch beating away in "Utkall", while "Sedna" creeps along in a predatory fashion, but all four tracks are bound together by a fine selection of misty atmospherics.

Deep House
Tribal Tone (Mo Better Grooves mix)
Tribal Tone (Ruffneck mix)
Tribal Tone (Marquis Hawkes remix)
Tribal Tone (Capracara remix)
Review: Given Unknown To The Unknown's wide ranging remit, including bassline garage, Detroit electro and Chicago house, it was perhaps inevitable that a genuine '90s house record would find its way onto the label at some point. Originally released in 1992, OHM's "Tribal Tone" was supposedly the first tune to use the Korg M1 sound that was later immortalised by Robin S' "Show Me Love", and had considerable impact at the time, being championed The Shamen frontman Mr C, being licensed to R&S sub-label Global Cuts and US label Vibe, and finding itself remixed by the Sabres of Paradise trio. Here it finds itself with three similarly great remixes, a stripped-back, raw groover from Marquis Hawkes, a horn-heavy piece of 90s action from Capracara and a thundering mid-tempo effort from Northern Souls. Essential!

Going Back (7:16)
As We See It Coming (5:25)
Shiva (7:21)
Seidingur (5:52)
Review: There are more seismic ruminations from the deepest depths of Iceland's dub techno scene afoot, as Ohm shores back up on X/OZ with more of that densely packed, heavily textured techno tackle. 'Going Back' opens the EP up in a submersible, riding a looming sub bass and pinging out sonar blips into the encroaching gloom. 'As We See It Coming' turns up the intensity with some sharply chiselled percussion and an eerie line in synth tones, while 'Shiva' locks into a truly propulsive, fully balanced techno workout. 'Seidingur' is perhaps the purest dub techno offering on the record, teasing out the rhythms and letting the chords swirl in the mix for a classically rooted, classily executed trip.

Subset - "Falling To Iguazu" (6:52)
Schulz Audio - "C-500A" (6:06)
Upwellings - "Sand On Wax" (6:45)
Review: If you ask us, there is no better time to listen to dub techno than on a grey and drizzling autumnal day. And as we sit hit typing that is exactly the weather outside. Ohm & Federsen's opening cut 'Sequence' is the perfect soundtrack with its misty aesthetic, fathoms-deep drums and greyscale atmospheres. Subset's 'Falling To Iguazu' is a little more optimistic and light with its delicate synths and watery dub effects, while Schulz Audio layers up scuffed kicks and ever so slightly more funky bass movement on 'C-500A' and Upwellings close with the upright techno drums and rattling dub chords of the perfectly frosty 'Sand On Wax.'

Little Mermaid (Bluetrain Special edition dub)
Review: Ohm & Kvadrant are no strangers to collaboration having done so with great outcomes before now. This time out they head on another deep sub aquatic voyage into dubbed techno realms. 'Little Mermaid' is a suitable title for such a sonic journey and it is one with lush harmonies up top, glowing like beams of light piercing the water way up above. Swirling pads add scale as this one rolls on smoothly. Who better to remix that dub master Bluetrain whose special edition dub is expertly reduced to the most smooth drum loops, dubby chords and icy hi hats.

Review: Ohm & Kvadrant head up their own Kontakt label and now return to it for a new beat to kick off the New Year. It comes on lovely gold vinyl and is a golden tune, too. The A-side delivers a captivating melodic dub creation, 'Peblinge,' which is as deep and warm as you can possibly imagine for those 5am wig-outs. The B-side meanwhile offers a refined electro-dub masterpiece in the form of 'Sortedam' with wispy synth curlicues, metallic hi-hats and immersive low ends.

Review: Ohm & Kvadrant are back on their Kontakt label to kick off 2025 with another stunning dub outing. Pressed on classic black vinyl, with a limited gold edition also available, this EP features two exceptional tracks starting with the A-side, 'Peblinge.' It's a mesmerising melodic dub creation, rich with warmth and depth-perfect for those late-night sessions. On the B-side, a second jam delivers a refined electro-dub masterpiece, blending synths, hi-hats, and fathom-deep low-end frequencies. Both tracks showcase the duo's signature style with soothing results.

Precious Little Diamond (6:15)
Precious Little Diamond (Deadbeat remix) (7:59)
Precious Little Diamond (Levon Vincent remix) (9:28)
Review: Ohm and Kvadrant return to their spiritual home of Kontakt with more of that grandiose dub techno immersion they do so well, plumbing epic depths both within and beyond the functional demands of the dancefloor. 'Precious Little Diamond' kicks the record off in a steady-cruising form, guided by a smooth minimal tech house beat as the engine for some choice dub techno chords and mechanical hiccups. Deadbeat then takes the helm for a version which plunges into abstract echo chamber sonics he's spent decades perfecting before Levon Vincent completes the picture with a remix which heads into the outer limits of deep techno immersion.

Precious Little Diamond (6:16)
Precious Little Diamond (Deadbeat remix) (8:01)
Precious Little Diamond (Levon Vincent remix) (9:37)
Review: Ohm and Kvadrant continue to offer their services in the dub techno vein; clearly, this isn't their first Kontakt. 'Treasure Of Kings Garden' reflects a single fantasy: the muted pleasure of discovering a forbidden gem buried at the bottom of his royal majesty's grounds. We imagine Ohm and Kvadrant's king to be a tyrant; necessarily, in fact, his sadism is the exact measure against which this diamond's value can be measured. The three mixes of the sole track 'Precious Little Diamond' unfurl like different stages of bejewelled delight and respite, from the initial 4x4 discovery to Deadbeat's halfstep black market laundering, and followed shortly by Levon Vincent's impressively textural evocation of cathartic relief, on receipt of such requisitioned-then-resold royal riches.

Hvidding (Octal Industries remix)
Review: The resurgence of Icelandic techno continues with the latest release on AE Recordings, seeing Bjarnar Jonsson returning to his long standing Ohm project alongside emergent talent Kvadrant. The pair were last seen on Kvadarant's Kontakt label, and their production partnership is clearly still yielding quality, dubbed out techno in the finest Scandinavian tradition. Even if all the tracks are built with a steely techno focus to them, the synth work and sound design scattered throughout the tracks elevates this to a higher level, not least on the bubbling geisers of signal processing that course through the middle of "Grip".

Review: Finnish label Vuo kicks off its year with a second instalment in the Ruutana City Mood Series. Once again it brings four vital dubbed out grooves to a lovely green marbled vinyl starting with Ohm & Kvadrant's 'Borsen' which is a smoky, grainy roller with icy drums. Armin Bender's 'All Or Nothing' brings a little extra light and optimism in the airy pads and Tm Shuffle pairs things right back for 'Efficient Answers' which is a gritty basement jam. Gonzalo Villarreal's 'Curanto' shits down with tons of lovely echo and reverb on a raw percussive cut.

Review: Bjarnar & Jonas's last album back in 2023 was critically well-received and now it is back in all-new form as a selection of four classy remixes. First up it is Seven Villas label boss Pablo Bolivar who gets all blissed out and paddy on 'Bara', while Merv brings some nice smeared chords to the rolling, hypnotic dub of 'Erebus'. On the flip, Philipp Priebe Saeti's take on 'Stratospheric Clouds' reworks it as a shimmering and bottomless dub lit up by some warming chords and last of all, Waage flips 'Anguta' into a dark, stark and punchy dub-tech monster that comes on like an unstoppable wall of noise. A quartet of seriously meaty sounds overall.

This time they turn up the heat just in time for summer with a trio of fresh, super-deep yet driving cuts. Each one brings its own sense of dance floor magic with 'Venezuela' layering up the dub chords, 'Mexico Tripping' having a more shimmering house vibe and 'Argentina' getting more raw and heavy in its onward march. Anton Kubikov provides a remix then smooths out the edges and sinks you into a zoned out deep and dubby roller.

Strange Attractors (7:59)
Creation (6:07)
Review: Astonishingly, "Chaos Game" is the eighth collaborative EP from Ohm (Bjarnar Jonsson) and Octal Industries (Jonas Thor Gudmundsson) since 2016. Like its predecessors, it offers a tough, club ready take on dub techno that peppers a variety of chunky, peak-time grooves with undeniably spacey elements. The best of the bunch - in our opinion at least - is opener "Breather", where dubbed-out synthesizer riffs and echoing chords bubble along over sparse beats before the Scandinavian pair bring in a heavy beat midway through. Elsewhere, "Strange Attractors" is hypnotic, odd and otherworldly, while closing cut "Creation" is the most dub-fired of the lot, largely because its hazy vocal samples and riffs pay tribute to soundsystem culture in the best possible way.

Review: Riding high on the renewed energy within the Icelandic techno scene, Ohm and Octal Industries make their first appearance on Solid Groove with some truly spellbinding exercises in patience, restraint and soul-stirring composition. "Bardo" is a truly haunting piece with the most delicately balanced rhythms and stunning deployment of piano and what sounds like clarinet. "Under Influence" is a more snarling affair, but the same sense of control grips the track as it ploughs its furrow. "Rider" is a looser affair that piles a lot more detail into the frequency range, with some particularly delightful lead warbles and other high frequency matter to delight the mind. "Flow Machine" strikes a note somewhere in the middle, keeping things moody but open compared to the foggy A side.

Andrea Cichecki - "Universe Blue" (7:00)
El Choop - "Vixen" (7:40)
Review: Over the past couple of years the Ohm Series of 12"s has quietly become one of the best in the field of dub techno, always carrying a respectable range of artists pushing the sound forwards, and now carrying the kind of weight which tells you you're getting the best these artists have to offer. On the seventh entry we can hear Ohm himself, aka Bjarnar Jonsson and Octal Industries teaming up for the deeply submerged creeper 'System (vs Federson)', while Lee Holman brings something brighter, more Motor City-inspired to the table on 'Absorbed By The Elements'. Andrea Cichecki slinks into a mellow, swung house mood on 'Universe Blue' and El Choop leans in on the sound design around his chord sounds to create the rhythmic heat in his outstanding 'FORPOD'. As ever, the bar remains high with the Ohm Series offerings.

Review: Copenhagen-based Icelander Ohm and Berlin-based Philipp Priebe mine the warmest depths of dub techno here across three stumble originals. 'Flickering Lights' is silky and muted, with smooth drums and claps gliding over a cavernous groove that is subtly lit with sustained chords. The Anton Kubikov remix is more lithe and electronic, with reflective synths and nimble leads making for a minimalistic workout. There is then a shadowy but dynamic dub vibe to 'Sacred Night' before 'Roaming' rives this EP home with a mix of deft sound designs and pillow dub drums. It's brilliantly introspective.

Review: OHM Series is the brainchild of established Copenhagen-based techno artist Bjarnar Jonsson, founded in 2021. The imprint's inaugural release features a lineup of expert engineers in the dub techno field: Macedonia's Stojche kicks things off on the first side with the galloping and glacial groove of 'Cellar', then the label boss teams up with veteran Nordic producer Thor on the deep and cavernous mood music of 'Skuggahverfi'. Over on the flip, you've got Waage taking the tempo down a rather ghostly trail on the paranoid and tunnelling trip of 'B1' and closing it out with Yagya who delivers something more straight ahead on the surefire execution of 'Nebolous Egress'.

Ohm & Kvadrant - "Under Krystallen" (6:32)

Review: TM Shuffle is a fitting name for an artist who makes music this, well, shuffly. The Finnish artist and Vuo Records founder specialises in making and releasing deep and rough techno-house, not shying from deep embeds of texture and unmuddied layerage. Ohm, meanwhile, is a veteran of the Icelandic techno scene; he shares this collaboration, too, with Kvadrant, the duo made up also of Shuffle and fellow artist Kalle. 'Under Krystallen' and 'Under Strobe' hear all artists join forces at once, hitting where things best land, dubbing things out and byremaining trigger-happy on the lead stab's filter cutoff. Twiddle away, friends.

Ohm & Kvadrant join forces first up for the mighty 'Under Krystallen' which is a brilliantly textured and enthralling dub techno cut with brilliantly loopy bass swinging down low and rattling chords melting off to an infinite horizon. On the flip is Trackmaster Shuffle with 'Under Strobe' which is a more amped-up and techno-leaning cut with pent-up energy and darker bass rumbles. Two tasteful and timeless cuts for heady crowds only

Review: Ohm and Octal Industries debuted on this label to great acclaim back in 2022 and now they're back on Lempuyang with Northwest Passage, a first album-length collaboration. This double 12" continues with their themes of failed arctic explorations and mythological creatures and, after 12 previous outings together, might be their best work yet: the sounds are mature and powerful, bleak yet deep. Dubbed-out chords roll to infinite horizons, frozen tundras are detailed with wispy melodies and pulsing, supple techno both soothes the soul and gets the head nodding. This is more stylish, subversive and superbly executed electronic music.
