Review: Regular collaborators Biesmans and Johannes Albert tend to release at least one record a year together. 2024's 'Give Me Luv', is one of their most accessible and entertaining to date. It has already become a feature of club sets thanks to a digital release earlier in the year and has finally landed on wax. In its original form (side A), the track offers a delicious blend of snappy Chicago house percussion, undulating analogue bass, glassy-eyed chords and colourful nu-disco synths - all topped off with a superb part spoken, part sung vocal from the undisputed "voice of house" Robert Owens. Over on the flip they charge headlong into techno territory on the harder, darker, faster and undeniably bigger 'Detroit Mix'.

Review: On his contribution to Watergate's mix series, Biesmans has decided to showcase his own tracks, and mostly a dizzying array of previously unheard collaborations with some seriously talented producers. It makes sense then that the German imprint has decided to show off the best of these across two vinyl samplers, of which this is the second. It's a great collection all told, with opener 'Quantum Computing' - a bumping piano-house hook-up with one of his musical heroes, Mathew Jonson - and the effortlessly funky nu-disco workout 'Me Gusta Acid', co-produced by Kid Simius, standing out. Elsewhere, solo cut 'Hipster Paradise' and Johannes Albert collaboration 'Luft' are also well worth a listen.

Review: Native Soul Recordings has been around a long old time in dance music terms and now it looks back over some of its finest works with this first in a new series of Best Of comps. Music writer Harold Heath is first up with 'Slipstream,' an effortless smooth late-night house cut with introspective chords and silky pads bringing real depth. The Candy Dealers get more lithe and elastic with the spraying bass and jumbled percussive house of 'Train Of Thought' and last of all, Asad Rizvi remixes Jevne's 'Moderize' with a funky little bassline and chord vamps that keep you on edge. A tasteful package of timeless house grooves.

Review: Spanish label MATE host a four track, two artist 12" that stretches across the Atlantic to take in top house music talents from both sides. The Belgian duo Chasse follow their releases on Robsoul and Exploited take on the A-side, with 'Viola' proving a chunky but emotive offering held together by rhythmic sax stabs and suspended strings and 'Deep Link' a jazzier affair, the sax let properly loose as a plaintive piano loops atmospherically. The prolific Detroit producer Javonntte, a regular on the label, offers up the fantastic Moog improv wigout of 'Sunday Brunch Cocktail', registering some impressively original high frequency operations. 'When Music Feels' boasts a spoken word vocal from Javonntte's own sister and a more classic deep house sound with an uplifting, spiritual vibe. Maximum value for money via four very playable tunes.

Review: Well, with his "Land Of The Monkey Snake" compilation and it's first, excellent sampler you can certainly say that Lee Coombs and his Thrust Recordings are in wonderful shape and here he goes again with yet another amazing sampler! Following from Coombs' remix of Steve Bug's "Creeps" and his collaborator Grant Plant, Sampler 2 features yet another all-star line up. First up is a rare collaboration between Elite Force and Jem Stone in the form of "Outta Sight". An almost perfect definition of the term "tech-funk", this snake of a tune wriggles and twists before rearing up and biting with deadly effect. Last, but by no means least, is Coombs himself, this time featuring Katherine Ellis with the fantastic "Control". Remixed by the ever-quality-assured Meat Katie, this is a vocal break/house cut with serious balls, and one which has been slaying crowds at the hands of its makers. If only all compilations and their samplers were like this! It is a various artists offering as always with DJ Delivery's 'Never Gonna Give You Up' a sure-fire floor-filling anthem to start things off. Review: We are proud to present the second Hot Natured release 'Re Rubs 02', featuring the illusive talents of Electric Jones aka Jamie Jones. This EP features three exclusive re-rubs that are already in high demand, largely due to the superb production on some of the hottest re-rubs you'll hear this year. 'Nasty's Party' is a low-slung, dirty, booty ass monster of a track. This has been a prominent feature of Jamie's sets over the past year, and is highly requested and sought after. The flip features two excellent workings each of which use an evocative, reminiscent vocal. 'In 4 Da Kill' once again showcases Mr Jones's excellent production skills whilst illusively dropping in the vocals for the kill. "Track One" sees sampled bass and guitar licks strum and bounce to beefy drums and classic disco vocals whilst "Track Two" strips down to a dusty drum track with subtle signs of filtered guitars supplying light chordal riffage. Face down, Jean-Michael Jackson opens with the looped Rhodes and funk strings of "Shine". Squelchy bass, pan pipes and hot dollops of disco make up "New Generation" while horns and '70s gangster funk trounces about in "Bombay".
