Alison (3:47)
So Tired (4:06)
Souvlaki Space Station (6:00)
Mousakka Chaos (6:06)
Review: Slowdive's second album, Souvlaki, defined a time and sound in rock, helping establish shoegaze as a genre and cementing the English outfit as one of the pre-eminent founding members of that movement. Combining the euphoria of electronic chill with the vastness of classical and songcraft of indie pop, it offered a purity of sound at odds with the often very full and complex instrumentals.

Outside Your Room is an EP full of tracks taken from that record, and as such is exactly what we mean. 'So Tired' feels like an opium dream, scuzzy, unkept, and yet blissful and utterly intoxicating in its own way. 'Alison' opens the scoring on a more anthemic note, vocals gently riding the waves of melody beneath. 'Souvlaki Space Station' is all build with absolutely no let off from its sparse but commanding atmospherics, while 'Moussaka Chaos' turns those elements around to rethink the entire arrangement. Exquisite stuff.

In Mind (3:43)
Good Day Sunshine (5:06)
Missing You (4:16)
Country Rain (3:30)
Review: It has been said that Slowdive's 5 EP is unlike anything else the band had done by this point in their journey - circa 1993 - and unlike anything they would go on to release. A four-tracker that's largely instrumental, it's arguably their closest venture into full-blown electronica, and given it doesn't sound too far from some of the choral-infused ambient on the release schedule today it's safe to say they pulled the idea off.

Of course it's still Slowdive, masters of shoegaze, and so despite clear differences compared with preceding work and all that followed, there are hallmarks of the band everywhere. Opener 'In Mind' provides a great example of the grand yet quiet atmospheres they're best known for, painting fantastical, emotionally enchanting pictures only visible through your third eye.

In Mind (Tom Middleton & Mark Pitchard aka Global Communication Reload remix - The 147 take) (13:55)
Review: Legendary Reading shoegaze band Slowdive had s short but powerful run from 1989 until 1995 (during their first spell) and that included the 5EP. In the same year, it was remixed to perfection by Bandulu and Reload and now it gets reissued on limited hand numbered vinyl. First up, Bandulu stretch the original's heavy minor chords and fatten the track out into a dubby masterclass and then the Reload version from Tom Middleton & Mark Pritchard (better known as Global Communication) is even more impressive. It's a supremely blissed out cut with a slow motion rhythm and futuristic sense of soul cut on 45 rpm but just as suited to 33rpm playback.

Catch The Breeze (4:19)
Golden Hair (4:02)
Shine (5:22)
Albatross (5:15)
Review: It's 1991 and all looks alarming right with the world - little did we know what was coming a few decades later. Nevertheless, the Berlin Wall has already fallen, uniting East and West, and Slowdive have been drumming up some serious support by way of that self-titled EP and sequel, Morningrise. Then they dropped Just For A Day, the debut album, and cemented their place in shoegaze ambient rock 'n' roll history.

Holding Our Breath is both a collector's item reissue, which originally arrived slightly ahead of that first full album, and an exceptional example of how newcomers can be blown away by the euphoria and strange opiate intensity of this band after hearing only a handful of tracks. Comprising 'Catch The Breeze', 'Golden Hair', 'Shine' and 'Albatross', everything soars, glides, ebbs and flows its way through stunning, epic soundscapes that are somehow loud and quiet.

Morningrise (4:20)
She Calls (5:36)
Losing Today (4:59)
Review: 'Morningrise' is considered by many to be the archetypal shoegaze track. It's certainly Slowdive's ultimate track, a monumental helping of searing riff echoes, haunting white noise and hushed, floating vocals. It's more than enough to send a chill down your spine and leave hairs standing on end even without the other two songs offering support on this timeless EP.

All three tracks are taken from the band's double disc debut, Just For A Day, which itself easily ranks among the finest albums of the early-1990s. In contrast to the opener, 'She Calls' reveals a slightly tougher, more distorted take on things, with more than a subtle hint of melancholia in the air, while 'Losing Today' brings meditative moods to finish the triptych on a deep and brooding cinematic note.

Slowdive (5:15)
Avalyn I (4:51)
Avalyn II (8:07)
Review: When it was initially released three decades ago in the summer of 1990, Slowdive's eponymous debut EP was heralded as an instant shoegaze classic: a drowsy, dreamy collection of hazy wall-of-sound, reverb-drenched songs that put the Reading band right at the heart of a growing musical movement. As this 30th anniversary reissue proves, it remains a fine collection of cuts. While lead cut 'Slowdive', a more orthodox fusion of shoegaze, dream-pop and indie-rock, was the one that chimed with listeners at the time, it's the two-part soundscape 'Avalyn' - and in particular the epic 'Avalyn II' - that resonates loudest in the 21st century. The latter track is so good that it's worth buying the EP just to get your hands on it.

Review: Anticipation is running high around Slowdive's long-awaited new album. Arriving six years after their self-titled comeback in 2017, the shoegaze icons' follow-up record is a true product of the times, hampered by pandemic delays and written as a reflection on significant personal losses for band members, but equally they were never going to rush something out for the sake of it. Lead singer Neil Halstead laid down some initial demos in 2020, and then when the band could come back together they worked on recordings for two years before getting to the finished product. If you love the band's swirling, dream-like sound, you won't be disappointed by lead single 'kisses' or, indeed, any of the other tracks contained within.

Review: In its time, which spans 16 years from the mid-1980s to the turn of the Millennium, Creation Records was incapable of misfiring. From Boo Radleys and Guided By Voices, The Jesus & Mary Chain to Bob Mould, Ride, Kevin Rowland, Teenage Fanclub and Super Furry Animals. Let alone Primal Scream. Renowned for a multitude of genres, but particularly shoegaze, suffice to say Slowdive, England's dream pop doyens, delivered some of the label's most seminal work. Souvlaki is a prime example. Although it narrowly missed a spot in the UK's Top 50 Albums Chart, peaking at 51 in 1993, retrospective attention has heralded this not just as a shoegaze classic, but also a true landmark of late-20th Century British music. "Quiet, moving, and aggressive simultaneously, mixing trance-like beauty with the deepest delayed guitar sounds around," Pitchfork once said. Now, if you've more to add, speak up.

The return of Slowdive has been one of the minor miracles of the 21st century thus far - having originally split up in a mist of disinterest and press opprobrium in the Britpop-damaged mid-'90s, the band have watched their profile and reputation slowly rise to the extent of them now being regarded as scene pioneers and innovators. True to its eponymous name, this album is the sound of these Thames Valley charmers re-asserting everything that made them magical in the first place a full quarter century on, not to mention a dizzying collision of ethereal harmonies, heavenly guitar cascades and opiated dreamstates possessed of a timeless allure.

Review: It makes perfect sense that Slowdive waited until album number four to punt for self-titled. They're a complex band with a deeply textured and immersive sound, at once dream pop and shoegaze while being entirely their own at the same time. Slowdive represents the culmination of efforts to get to that place. A record that defines their tone as much as elevates it to the next level.

Back in 2017 - when the world felt so much different to the one we live in today - critics certainly agreed. Many viewed this outing as their finest to date, packing vast, open atmospherics in spades, presenting a vision as far-reaching as it is wrapped up in itself. At once looking back and summarising everything that had gone before it, and then promising a future brightly lit with new ideas, it's the epitome of what progressive rock should mean in the literal sense.

Review: Reissues go one of two ways. Well, OK, maybe three. You're either left blown away by how fresh something sounds, reminded of a special moment in music history and how good an example a record is of that time capsule, or walk away wondering why you thought it was necessary to play, let alone buy, from this particular archive. As you'd hope, listening back to Slow Dive's seminal 'Just For A Day' fits into the second of those conclusions. Yes, soaring rock that seems to foster our dreams and fantasies in walls of power shoegaze does feel like a recollection rather than where we're at today. But my goodness do the epic arrangements and woozy artistry in the songcraft still sound as awesome, grandiose and yet personal as ever. One for the books, for sure.

Review: It could not have been less on-trend at the time. It's 1995 and the UK is getting to grips with the commercial potential of rave, house music and other dance genres, while momentum is building behind the most unashamedly 90s and British music movement in history, Britpop. Oasis are readying '(What's The Story) Morning Glory?' and Blur have just introduced us to 'Parklife'. Then along come Slowdive with their third album, arguably their deepest, most serene and captivating in the cinematic sense. The vision of guitarist, singer and songwriter Neil Halstead, the tapestry of beautiful melodies presented across the record owe plenty to electronic and ambient music, although in many ways were ahead of their time in terms of how those are interpreted by a live band rooted in rock. In short, a landmark release.

Review: Originally unveiled in 1992, Blue Day represents one of the most exciting periods in the evolution of British shoegaze heroes Slowdive - their formative years. Comprising the first three EPs, or at least a good chunk of each and the entirety of the seminal Morningrise, it's less of a history lesson and more a reminder of just how well the seven-piece's music has stood the test of time.

There are some notable omissions, it's true. So the Slowdive songs here are missing 'Avalyn II'. And there's no 'Catch The Breeze' or cover of Syd Barrett's 'Golden Hair' included from Holding Our Breath. Still, with the ethereal yet jangly rock of 'She Calls', 'Losing Today''s dark, almost choral atmospherics, and the white noise and discordance of 'Albatross', ain't nobody complaining here.

Review: Slowdive's 1991 debut Just For A Day, out again via Music On Vinyl. Less famous than their name-making lucky strike Souvlaki, Just For A Day is still a nonetheless sublime full-length shoegaze record. Nine sabresque songs opine the nostalgic feeling of a short-lived tryst, beginning with a recollection of the 'Spanish Air' and ending on a deeper musing on the 'Primal'. A must-have for any completist hooverhead, Slowdive's debut surely set the tone for a career that was yet to burgeon (and continues to flourish) and yet still retains a purity that no other record in their discography shares.

Review: Slowdive's Pygmalion stands as a profound yet overlooked gem in the band's discography. Released amidst the Britpop and grunge dominance of 1995, it was unfairly dismissed, leading to the band's quiet dissolution. However, if you revisit Pygmalion, it reveals a hauntingly beautiful departure from their earlier shoegaze roots. Now, pressed on vinyl, you can enjoy all the ways this release has stood against time and trends. The album is a minimalist masterpiece, stripping away their trademark wall of noise to reveal ethereal, ambient landscapes. Tracks like the opening epic 'Rutti' set the tone with its subdued guitar work and Neil Halstead's introspective vocals, evoking a sense of contemplative solitude. Throughout the album, space is pivotal - an expansive, cathedral-like atmosphere crafted through restrained instrumentation and atmospheric production. While critics of its time failed to appreciate its subtleties, Pygmalion now stands as a visionary work ahead of its time. Its influence can be heard in subsequent bands like Mogwai and Low, who embraced its meditative qualities and minimalist approach. In today's context, the album's tranquil melodies offer a refuge, resonating with listeners seeking solace amidst chaos. Slowdive's Pygmalion remains a shinning example to their artistic integrity and the enduring power of quiet introspection in music.

Review: First released in 1992, Slowdive's 'Blue Day' compiles the best of the band's earliest outings in the shoegaze genre, bottling them under a singly brittle, blue banner. Just seven tracks adorn its two sides, with the notable self-titled track 'Slowdive' signalling some hint of the band's origins (its wayward drumming getting at an especially happy naivete). Later moments on the record, such as 'Morningrise', are comparatively icier verging on frostbitten, with an overdriven crunch clipping off the most amped edges of the transient hits, suggesting an imperfect medium. On the B, the best of the lot is the slow colic of 'Losing Today', a song palpably packed with a sense of loss, most notably achieved via its soaring, cuspate guitar ogees, albeit ones which just about peek their heads above the shrednoise.

Review: Shoegazers delight as Slowdive finally return with their first new album in six years. As you would expect, the band took their time working towards the perfect end result after lead singer and guitarist Neil Halstead laid down preliminary demos back in 2020. Obvious global crises impeded the progress until the band were able to reconvene and embark on two years worth of recording from those foundations until they reached the album we're presented with today (with a little help from Shawn Everett on mixing duties). As lead single 'kisses' intimates, the band's treasured dream-pop qualities remain intact while hinting at a more subtle, introverted sound than was heard on their standout self-titled album in 2017.

Review: Since 2017's exceptional self-titled return to form, which marked the first new material in over two decades from Reading shoegaze pioneers Slowdive, fans have been anticipating a continuation of the group's welcome resurgence, as it was first revealed in 2020 that work on yet another full-length was well under way. Everything Is Alive promises a more minimal electronic based backdrop, seemingly at odds with the mercurial dream-pop of its predecessor, while being directly influenced by the passing of both vocalist/guitarist Rachel Goswell's mother and drummer Simon Scott's father. Where six years is often perceived as a lengthy gap between releases, for the inimitable Slowdive, it's a very promising turnaround, indicating the rejuvenated passion, poise and purpose the members feel when in collaboration and craft.

Review: The self-titled comeback LP from Reading based shoegaze pioneers Slowdive proved one of the most mercurial and delicate dream-pop projects of 2017, while owing testament to their singular, highly influential vision. While a follow up has been teased since 2020, lockdown delays as well as personal loss has hindered the work to the point of monolithic proportions. Promising a more introspective, minimal electronic based backdrop in order to process the passing of both vocalist/guitarist Rachel Goswell's mother and drummer Simon Scott's father, Everything Is Alive serves as a muted, nuanced return to form, from a collective of artists still driven by their passion, ability and endlessly attentive focus to their ethereal craft.

Review: Slowdive's 2017 self-titled album, reissued on red opaque vinyl, marks their triumphant return after a 22-year hiatus. Known as pioneers of shoegaze, the band initially faded from the spotlight, but their resurgence proves they haven't lost their edge. This album is a continuation of the sonic journey that began with Souvlaki, though it leans into a more energetic, contemporary sound. Tracks like 'Star Roving' and 'Don't Know Why' showcase a faster tempo and layers of effects reminiscent of modern shoegaze bands, yet still rooted in Slowdive's dreamy, atmospheric core. Neil Halstead's songwriting shines, especially on tracks like 'Sugar for the Pill', which echoes the intricate arrangements of their earlier works, while Rachel Goswell's vocals add emotional depth throughout. The interplay between the two on 'Go Get It' is particularly powerful, embodying the band's signature sound that fluctuates between soft and intense. Rather than a nostalgic retread, Slowdive is a fresh and vital album, blending the band's original shoegaze style with new elements. Their ability to maintain their distinctive sound after such a long break was remarkable. As Neil Halstead notes, the album captures the renewed momentum of the band, making it a fitting, forward-looking addition to their discography.

Review: Having just performed their first ever Glastonbury set this summer, Reading shoegaze pioneers Slowdive are set to unveil their much anticipated fifth full-length Everything Is Alive. Following on from 2017's exceptional self-titled return to form, marking their first new material in over two decades, fans have been eagerly awaiting a continuation of the group's second wind since revealing in 2020 that work was under way for yet another full-length. Promising more minimal electronic based soundscapes as opposed to the ethereal dream-pop of its predecessor, as well being directly influenced and reflective of the passing of both vocalist/guitarist Rachel Goswell's mother and drummer Simon Scott's father, prepare for yet another reshaping of melancholic grandeur in the atypical incomparable Slowdive fashion.

Review: Sony Records has decided to reissue a slew of early albums from British shoegaze and dream pop sorts Slowdive, a band that has enjoyed a successful comeback since reforming late last decade. Here they take us back to the formative years of the Reading-born band and 1991 full-length debut Just For a Day. Recorded in leafy Oxfordshire (Abington specifically), the set is as lush, densely layered, effects-laden and gently psychedelic as you'd expect from a set that's (rightly) still regarded as one of the strongest shoegaze albums of all time. For proof, check the hypnotic, slow-motion pulse of opener 'Spanish Air', the low slung bass and hallucinatory textures of 'Catch The Breeze', the near-ambient immersion of 'Erik's Song', and the jangly sparkle of 'Brightness'.

Review: While now - rightly - hailed as one of the greatest shoegaze albums of all time, Slowdive's sophomore full-length Souvlaki was initially panned by critics - a fate that also befell the Reading combo's debut Just For a Day. Now remastered and reissued on CD for the first time in years, the 1993 set remains a pleasingly saucer-eyed, heavily layered and decidedly dreamy affair. Musically, it's generally brighter and more jangling than its predecessor, leaning more heavily into the dream-pop end of their sound whilst still retaining the reverb-heavy, suitably psychedelic guitar textures of shoegaze. Highlights include the funky, late 60s nostalgia of '40 Days', the dubby and spaced-out headiness of 'Sing' and the stretched-out heaviness of 'Souvlaki Space Station'.

Review: ***B-STOCK: Creasing to corner of outer sleeve but otherwise in excellent condition***

First released in 1992, Slowdive's 'Blue Day' compiles the best of the band's earliest outings in the shoegaze genre, bottling them under a singly brittle, blue banner.

Since 2017's exceptional self-titled return to form, which marked the first new material in over two decades from Reading shoegaze pioneers Slowdive, fans have been anticipating a continuation of the group's welcome resurgence, as it was first revealed in 2020 that work on yet another full-length was well under way.

Review: Souvlaki is not just an essential shoegaze album but a crucial piece of 90s music, offering an otherworldly, cinematic experience that resonates deeply. It's a timeless classic, places Slowdive's album in indie music history. The band's 1993 sophomore album, is a pinnacle in the shoegaze genre, earning its legendary status with ethereal soundscapes and profound emotional depth. Initially met with skepticism, it reveals itself as a transcendent experience, blending dreamy textures with heartfelt melancholia. The album's production is immaculate, creating a lush, atmospheric sound filled with spacy basslines, synths and fuzzy guitars that envelop the listener in a warm, comforting embrace. Rachel Goswell and Neil Halstead's vocals are otherworldly, their harmonies flowing seamlessly within the dense yet airy mix. Thematically, Souvlaki explores themes of falling, drowning, and the sorrow of a breakup, capturing raw emotions with both abstract and straightforward songwriting. Tracks like 'Alison' and 'Machine Gun' showcase abstract lyrics, while songs like '40 Days' and 'Here She Comes' offer simplicity and heartfelt expression and it's all reissued here on translucent red and blue marbled vinyl.

Review: The return of Slowdive has been one of the minor miracles of the 21st century thus far - having originally split up in a mist of disinterest and press opprobrium in the Britpop-damaged mid-'90s, the band have watched their profile and reputation slowly rise to the extent of them now being regarded as scene pioneers and innovators.
