Pauk - "Shiawasena Fukushu" (4:24)
Perdi Rominger - "Empty Spot" (8:20)
Promising/Youngster - "Arbey" (5:32)
Review: There's lots to get your teeth stuck into on this new and blistering collection of electro from Adepta Editions. And don't let the title fool you - it's not all accessible summer festival fare, in fact none of it is. It is all head down and serious tackle. 7053M4R14's '4 N3W HUM4N' is a driving, dark, visceral sound with raw breakbeats powering through the cosmos. Rec_Overflow offers a moment to catch your breath with some slower, dubby rhythms on 'Pocket Dial' and Pauk explores twitchy future synths capes and post-human transmissions on 'Shiawasena Fukushu'. Promising/Youngster shuts down with a sense of optimism and hope with the airy melodies and slithering electro drum patterns of 'Arbey.'

A1 People - "Do It" (Metamatics remix)
Kosmogonik - "Circuitry"
Silicon Scally - "Relay"
Matt Chester - "November Pathways"
CiM - "Recursive"
Review: Since Zip and Villalobos made it one of their coveted deep digs to be heard pealing out of a thousand after hours sessions, the Metamatics remix of A1 People has been a teasingly out of reach dream grab for many a minimal electro head. Now Yossi Amoyal has done the good deed of getting the track remastered and repressed as part of his Fluere series toasting 15 years of Sushitech. As well as that masterclass of elegant machine funk, there's also Kosmogonik's mind-bendingly brilliant 'Circuitry', Silicon Scally's body-popping electro-noir 'Relay' and Matt Chester's melancholic 'November Pathways' to keep your up-all-night marathon sets peppered with spangled surprises.

Stopouts - "Pass Go" (8:00)
Review: Always a good week when some new RAND Muzik drops. The Leipzig imprint's brand of understated grooves are on fine display once again on this various artists EP. On RM 12015, feel the low-slung and funky dub of A2's 'Open Your Mind' which they follow up with some moody computer funk on the next track 'Entity'. Over on the B side, Andy Panayi serves up some dusty 303 shenanigans on 'Acidbend' in the vein of classic Cabinet Records and closing it out is Stopouts with the subterranean breaks of 'Pass Go'.

Review: BUILDINGS was born out of a creative merger between Detroit's 313 Acid Queen (Rebecca Goldberg) and Italian maestro Sickboy (Stefano Piseddu), their 4th and 2nd releases on Detroit Underground respectively. The duo have thoughtfully arranged a half dozen tracks inspired figuratively and literally by the landscape of Detroit. Working 7,000km and multiple time zones apart, having never met in person, their individual expressions intertwine in soundscapes reminiscent of techno's origin and exist in a way only capable in our present time. Devoted as ever to the roots of Detroit techno, Goldberg and Piseddu have built a magnificent album around the Detroit Map Series theme conceptualized by DU label founder Kero and designed by Neubau Berlin.

Paul Renard - "SO36" (5:23)
Review: Acid Sessions Vol. 3 is another white-knuckle journey into the world of acid with five top talents in the field all pushing their own limits. Acidulant opens with "Serpentacid' featuring hypnotic 303 grooves and relentless energy, then Sarufaromeo & Papaverhof deliver 'Acid Nihonshu' which blends atmospheric depth with chaotic acid vibes. G303 takes you beyond with 'Live Long and Prosper,' an interstellar anthem filled with cosmic acid and resonant grooves. Paul Renard closes with 'SO36' which is all about the fat rhythms and powerful dancefloor drive. Long live acid is what we say.

Review: Black Quasar doesn't much about when it comes to serving up searing electro. This new collection of just that comes on the Conexiones Electronicas 12" and features some exciting artists all in top form. Adhesive's 'Tensegrity' opens with some nice catchy funk and lashings of synth energy, The Bandit's 'Festival' has a darker mood and None's 'The Ancient Musical Resistance' is a more experimental sound with bleeps, squeaks and busted beats. Promising Youngster also impresses with 'Rare House' and after the more dreamy synth sequences of Structweird's 'Lunar Loom' comes Pauk Youyu's fractured and loopy 'YUUUTSU.'

Review: Parisian label 39 Records presents its first vinyl release. 39REC01 introduces several upcoming European producers, presenting a four-track journey across house breakbeat and tech house from France to Romania. On the A side you've got some groovy minimal house courtesy of Admo on 'Roger T' which is perfect tackle for the warm-up or afterhours alike, followed by Mosleo who serves up some lo-slung acid breaks on 'Roots Secours'. Over on the flip, Llip takes you to a higher state of consciousness on the rolling main room tech house of 'Boards' and finally Sanpe has you sorted for proper mood music on his deeply emotive offering 'The Dip'

Jay Anderson - "Didn't Care Too Much" (6:20)
S II P - "Untitled" (7:50)
Peshka - "Basic Instinct" (10:55)
Review: Bristol house imprint Banoffee Pies return with more subtle and hypnotic grooves. On the A side is the mysterious Jay Anderson with "Didn't Care Too Much". While not much is known of him yet, we are sure that will change once people listen to this track: deep minimal house that crosses over into electro much in the vein of Frenchman TC80 or what his peers on Japan's Cabaret imprint are doing right now. Next up, Greek up and comer Simonas Paplauskas serves up the rolling and entrancing afterhours cut "Untitled" which takes its cues from the current sounds of Romania: an immaculate production. On the flip, the entire side is handed over to Ukrainian producer Peshka, who delivers another jagged yet downright wacky and unique take on reduced grooves with "Basic Instinct".

Arctor & Jay Hill - "Mercurial" (Silverlining remix) (9:30)
Ravi McArthur - "Here & Now" (Silverlining remix) (7:08)
Spook In The House - "Conspiracy" (6:14)
Review: Silverlining keeps up the pressure with his flawless series, hitting the tenth release in style with this batch of remixes he's sprinkled some metallic underground house magic over. First up is Arctor & Jay Hill's "Mercurial", which gets given a cavernous rub down, as brittle but mightily groovy percussion pirouettes around dubby inflections, whispered atmospherics and more besides. Ravi McArthur's "Here & Now" takes on a '90s tint as a killer phased lead hook and woozy pads bring the wiggle to Rizvi's limber deep house rhythm structure. "Conspiracy" by Spook In The House completes the set with a fractured ping into more experimental territory that sports a serious whiff of Stasis-esque psychedelia in its genetic make up.

Review: We're well into 2021 now and the latest of an endless number of electro revivals shows now signs of slowing down. Thankfully, each new EP brings with it new perspectives and fresh sound designs' and this one in particular really offers something original from six different artists. There's bright, melodic, celebratory tackle from Arctor, banging drum programming from Sound Synthesis and spaced out late night dreamscape material from Featherstone, and that's just on the a-side. Flip it over for darker, more cavernous fair from Zodiac Childs & MOY as well as two other more than useful cuts.

Review: London-based Specimen Records presents a limited edition vinyl release, showcasing some distinct and refined electro producers. Belgium's Arsonist Recorder (ZwaarteKracht) serves up some dark electro bass in the most fierce and futuristic style on opener "React", while the daunting dystopia of Sound Synthesis' "60 Minute Bleeps" will now doubt bear comparisons to Offenbach legend Anthony Rother. On the flip, Francois Dillinger goes for a more off-kilter and experimental vibe on his fascinating contribution "Humans Among Us" and the ever impressive Gaetan V. aka Datawave lunges straight for the jugular on the nefarious beats of "Genotype 1".

KCLF - "Reloaded 9615"
Review: Undersound Recordings hit release number 15 with a various artist EP that packs four vital techno punches. Audio Quest's "The Mental Screen" kicks off with some old school techno that recalls the sound of legendary Dutch label Djax-Up. It's filled with metallic snare sounds and deep space bleeps. Jared Wilson of course brings the acid that has defined his output for years, and Sohrab get busy with a kicking number and some busy melody patterns. KCLF closes out with twisted bass and shiny chords that look back to go forwards with "Reloaded 9615".

Review: The twisted and trance-infused progressive techno sound of Les Disques De La Jungle is one we have been keen to hear more from, and here we have it: a new EP featuring some of the artists who have already dropped heat here. AV1 goes first with the crispy metal drums and warped synths of 'Meta2' then Fsk24 & Felix Dulac combine for the hammering tech-funk of 'Un Eclair Dans La Nuit' which would have been a Tyrant classic back in the day. Fsk24 then hooks up with Nils for the stomping and noen-lit jungle-tech of 'Toomai Des Elephants' before partnering with Solal Reyes for the tripped out but driving closer 'Tongue Twister'.

Raphael Scemama & Tournissoux - "Like This Girl" (edit) (8:02)
Review: Untold Stories finally tells their first story in Various Artists form, reaching their hands deep into a forgotten folk corpus to retranslate each tale to we, who only speak house and techno. Described heartily as a ripple-maker, Lebanese producer Nesta devises his own folk fairytale with 'Bouchees A La Reine', with Axel S leading on with a nostalgic and groovy jazzy infused minimal track to counterpoint the A's meaty copra. On the B, Sonus takes the help with a surreal electro-dance burbler on which a winsome voice repeats the word "dreaming". And closing out comes the flat beat knockout 'Like This Girl', an instructive melody for future storytellers.

Review: New styles from the Pretension camp, following up from the awesome EPs by Justin Maxwell and The Diskchordians. Fresh from a trip back to Chicago, 1987, Jon (Bass Kittens) & Miguel (Single Cell Orchestra) laid down a track drawing on their love of acid house. Never leaving behind the stomp of pure acid, they added modern DSP trickery to produce a track that simultaneously pays homage to their roots while looking to the future. A layer of acid-inspired vocals from Mariette Marinus & MC Silly B Chill completes the picture. Kinda like Abe Duques' 303 excursions but with more of an electro edge.

Networks (3:58)
Review: Somewhat surprisingly, Casa Voyager label founder Driss Bennis has never before released an EP on the label. Three years after he founded the imprint in Casablanca, Morocco, Bennis has finally stepped up to the plate via a collaborative EP made with Swoze (real name Alex Braine) that's being marketed as an "original soundtrack from rhe scam planet tale". It certainly has a sci-fi feel throughout, with the pair using side A to flit between the breakbeat-driven electrofunk cheeriness of 'Theme From Scam Planet (Dirty)', and the deep breakbeat house dreaminess of 'Offshore Counterforce'. Over on the flip, the duo first delivers some wonky, sub-heavy, cut-up 21st century funk (the frankly bonkers 'Day Drive (Through Casablanca)', before offering up ambient jazz-funk loveliness ('Network (Prelude)') and deep, jazzy electro-funk ('Network').

Review: Coeur De Glace on DKO Records (DKO 34) delivers four fantastic electro tracks, each with unique influences and directions. Side-1 kicks off with Binary Digit's 'U Want Dis,' an exuberant, high-energy track that pays homage to old-school rave with its lively vocal samples. Fasme's 'Morning' follows, blending smooth electro with soft keys and a whimsical AFX melody for a perfect combination. Side-2 features GGGG's 'La Cueillette,' a feel-good, fun and melodic electro tune. The EP concludes with Mud Deep & Sans-Qui's 'Mesonyx,' offering IDM goodness reminiscent of Rephlex, Squarepusher, and AFX. Coeur De Glaceis a vibrant and diverse collection, sure to delight fans of electro and techno.

Review: For the label's first compilation, Cabaret Records has decided to introduce us to their Alien Family. By the sounds of the collection, they're a motley crew of studio mutants united by a love of creaking hardware, sci-fi synths and intergalactic dancefloor workouts. Happily, highlights are plentiful, from the acid-fired, bleep-heavy throb of S-Audio's "Remote Circuit" and weighty electro crackle of Binh's "Wova", to the dreamy underwater deepness of EK Box's "Watair" and the classic deep house/Detroit techno fusion of So Inagawa's futurist masterpiece "Solitary Affair". Evan Baggs's contribution, the TB-303 madness that is "AZS", is also superb.

Review: Blackhall & Bookless have been pursuing a fantastic strain of house and techno via their Jaunt label for many moons now. They're back and celebrating 10 years with a series of fantastic remixes that highlight the scope of their artistic vision, and that of those close to them. Inland leads in with an oceans deep version of the label bosses' "Spirit", which is smartly followed up by Jonas Kopp's equally submersive take on Hiver's "Itria". Jasper Wolff and Maarten Mittendorff lets the swooning "Meandering Rivers" by Kaelan burst its banks and fill out an expansive landscape, while Stojche pings Gian's "The Exchange" out into an electro-speckled cosmos.

Review: El Milagro Records are Spain's answer to throwback deep house, having brought a strange sound to the genre sporadically since 2013. Only solo releases have come so far, but the new 'Resiliencia' V/A challenges all that came before by way of four new tracks from Bladymore Galaxy, Second Player, and Guikle, et al. 'Saturno' sounds like something between UK funky and AFX-era bleep tune, while 'Death Full Of Life' rounds things off with a Drexciyan new wave bit of downtempo

Review: The second in the BLE-EP series is another nostalgic trip back to the early days of rave. It's jam packed with six of the best breaks, bleeps and bass tunes, prickly analogue drum programming and future leads that immediately place you in a room full of smoke, lasers flashing by and strobes going mental. Bohm's 'Trouble' is a textbook take on this style, while Neil Landstrumm layers up bright melodies and refracts them around a punchy techno framework on 'Body Popper.' Meat Beat Manifesto's 'Destroy Dub' is a wild furry of drums and another gem on an EP full of them.

Szostek himself dons the well known BPMF alias again for some fierce breakbeat techno action on "Zu Heib Fur Uns", the equally legendary Healy brothers aka Somatic Response still going strong - as heard on the slo-mo acid trance journey "Strategy Of Desire" and relative newcomer Heidi Sabertooth of Opal Onyx delivers some sludgy electro-punk antics on "So You Want To Take Back Your Will". There's some handy locked grooves on the electro-bass tip featured too by Synapse and Pointsman, which were pretty wicked too.

Break 3000 - "Spacemaschinenreise" (4:46)
Review: Lovers of electro clash will be hyped by this reissue of some classics of the genre from Break 3000. They come from a specific time between 1998 and 2003 on red vinyl and mark the final chapter of the label's current reissue project. The A-side features Break 3000's remix for Germany's Pocketgame label in 2003, part of the We Are He-Man EP alongside a renowned Legowelt remix. Next, the dark electro track The Wait' appeared on Pocketgame's 'Bonuslevel One - North and South' compilation in 2003. The B-side showcases earlier releases 'Electric Blue' and 'Spacemachinenreise' and 'Lectrolite #2' on Break 3000's 'Casa Nova' imprint in 1999, which marked the start of his electro journey.

The Night (7:37)
Review: Paris label Positive Future release positive music for positive people, but that doesn't hold them back a bit from concept-releasing V/As about future dystopias! "Once upon a time in a dystopian future", so the liners go, "humans are winning the battle against a zombie invasion" by fighting back, somehow, with their vinyl records (it's not stated explicitly, but we presume this means by playing them). "To defeat them forever and avoid a wicked future, DJs will have to join forces for a big party with every human still left standing." Of course, before the zombie plague, as far as sonic warfare went, military-grade sound design had been sanctioned for government use only, and the recording industries had precious little involvement. That all changes with producers Aline Brooklyn, Krol, Briki, Samuel Jabba and P.O., each of whom have reproduced and mass marketed their very own subsonic, antiviral weapon, of which there are four classes: A1, A2, B1 and B2. We choose B2, 'The Night', an instrument whose unsettling, garbled vocals and spine-tingling melodies make for, in our view, the best sonic zombie-away spray.

Review: The legendary Beta Evers kickstarted her Bodyvolt imprint back up again in 2015 and has been bringing back the darkness with her Black Spider Clan project, Black Pond (with Jeff Gallea) as well as a great various artists compilation last year. Two of the guests on the comp were Bruta Non Calculant and Swesor Bhrater - two aliases of legendary French producer Alexandre Gand (Le Syndicat Electronique) that make a return on this split EP. As Bruta Non Calculant, Gand explores rusty and guttural industrial/EBM mutations on the A side - the slow burning nightstalker antics of "Gazoline" and the snarling basement groove of "Distant Memory" standing out. On the flip, he explores the same frontiers as legendary New York legends Suicide on attitude driven synth-punk of "Twist In The Blaze" as Swesor Bhrater.

Interdance EP
Cat: INTER 001. Rel: 28 Nov 23
Cabanelas - "Interdance" (7:55)
Cabanelas & Soto - "Afilando La Faca" (5:23)
Mich - "1937" (7:04)
Mich - "Serotonina" (6:09)
Review: Interdance is a new label tapping into the fruitful trancey tech house sound and its opening gambit features three artists doing great work within the sub-sub genre. Montevideo Electric main man Cabanelas is up first with the widescreen delights of 'Interdance', clearly an anthem of sorts for the label's direction. Then he links up with Soto for the more playful, acid-tickled workout 'Afilando La Faca' which could just as easily work at a warehouse rave as a conventional club. Mich takes over the B side with two contrasting cuts - the shimmering, transcendental '1937' and the synth-pop influenced 'Serotonina'. Along with the A-side tracks, they confirm Interdance as a new label to watch in this buoyant scene.

Jim Rivers - "Cosmos" (8:31)
Melatron & Ancient Artefact - "I Get My Kicks" (6:53)
Review: The latest compilation album from COD3 QR is, as always, focused on eclecticism, open-mindedness, divergence and non-conformity, featuring the usual wide range of electronic music, all handpicked by Laurent Garnier and Scan X. The vinyl edition of this very latest edition of the compilation series - which was embarked upon in not long after the longstanding but mysterious label was revealed to be the fruits of the labours of this legendary duo, who had until then ran it incognito - comes as a condensed version of the digital, on which a terse seven tracks from the likes of Calibre, Seroplexx, Costello, Marcelus, Subground 3000, Lee Trax, Jim Rivers, Melatron and Ancient Artifact all appear. Though the label has set a high expectation with their admonition against "all expectations and all prejudices", they actually do extremely well to fulfil that aim. Most contributions here - from the steppy, sloppy 'Sump Dub to the just-plain-monstrous 'I Get My Kicks' - tend towards on the uncategorisable and unpigeonholeable, at least in terms of overtly boxed-in genre norms.

Derek Carr - "Land Of Oz" (7:20)
Spin Fidelity - "Orion" (5:51)
Review: 2 veterans of UK techno are present on the latest outing on Barcelona imprint Subwax's sub label Subwax Excursions. It's all about the journey within electronic music on this offering with no fixed genre or style. On the A side we have Westmeath's finest stalwart Derek Carr who presents his idiosyncratic style of high fidelity techno soul on the funky "Land Of Oz". On the flip, Cheshire's Antonio Velazquez aka Spin Fidelity provides a good dose of Motor City influenced electro-funk on the futuristic vibe of "Orion". Hand stamped transparent yellow vinyl 12", limited to 200 copies.

Review: 'Synchronicity' is the Vacuity label's first EP, and as such it was paramount to convey the new outfit's sonic DNA. Musically, this collaborative V/A combines both somatic dancefloor and cerebral "mental" elements, one side orienting itself to ends of booty-shaking electro, the other betraying its more synaptic, cogent, thinking corners, largely by way of minimal and deep techno. Its predominant color is red; like the first chakra, red represents beginnings, vital force, and materialization. The overall result is an intense, vibrant, and profound debut.

Message In A Box (5:54)
Rising Star (6:11)
Review: The third EP from "outsider club music specialists" Basic Moves comes from veteran Belgian producer Sebastian Snoeck under the long-forgotten Caustic 14 alias (previously used just once, way back in 1994). The two tracks showcased here were apparently recorded by Snoeck "between 1999 and 2001". A-side "Message in a Box" sets the tone, with Snoek layering spacey melodies, Drexciyan electronics and vintage B12 flourishes over a punchy, electro style breakbeat. In contrast, "Rising Star" sounds like the long-lost illegitimate son of Speedy J (in Artificial Intelligence mode, before he went super-heavy), Orlando Voorn and Underground Resistance. This, we think you'll agree, is an enticing proposition.
